As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Wonderful photos from around the ship! Oh how I miss cruising. DH wasn't a huge fan of it, and now with a family of 5, it's pretty darn expensive!
Oh my goodness, yes, I can imagine that would get crazy expensive!

I love getting photos on the ship while everyone is busy getting ready for dinner, unpacking, whatever they all do!
Fell behind the last couple of days as the forums were down! This is occurring so often now and probably a couple times of week now and on two consecutive days this week!
Glad Mari and Raleigh will go up to the next level as Castaway Members next time, which should be easier for your next cruise together!
Some nice photos of the ship before sailing and you covered it well! It brings back so many great and vivid memories of my cruise as it looks just as I remember! Love those of Dover and the French coastline.
So great to be sailing now and I'm sure you skipped the sailaway extravaganza! I went to that on my first one but not something you need to do often as so over the top and with the crowds!
One thing I noticed about your room and Mark decorating your door with the magnets is we were both on deck 7. It's a good location to be be in close to deck 9 for Cabanas and Cove Cafe and not too far from other things on decks 3-5.
I was checking my TR from my April, 2015 cruise and how we are practically neighbors! Our rooms look quite identical but my bed was on left and yours on right. I checked my room number and it's......#7556! Right next to my room. How crazy is that?

"Well, after this, I decided to go down to deck 7 and check out my room for the first time. I took the stairs, as it was only three decks down. I am located midship and in Room #7556. It was a bit crowded in the corridors as many passengers were going to their rooms for the first time as well as the stateroom hosts (porters) were checking in on everyone. Shortly, after getting to my room, I met my host Edwin for the first time, whom I think is from Spain. He was very nice and polite and told me not to hesitate to ask for anything."

Such lovely photos...I'm in love with the lighthouse...I adore lighthouses and love to photograph them That is a fantastic, and very different than I've seen.

It's always great to be able to explore the ship on our own and get photos with no-one in them and I had the opportunity to do a lot of that on this cruise...

It is and it's becoming very frustrating. I have got to the stage where I've now set up a private Facebook group where I'm dual posting my trip report. It's a lot of work, but I'm getting to the stage where the outages are becoming so annoying, I feel I need to do something. I know it won't help you, as I don't think you're on Facebook, but if anyone wants to join over there, just message me and I'll send you an invite.

I don't remember the last time we did it, to be honest! We prefer to enjoy sailing away from our own cabin, although occasionally we do head up to deck 10 just to get a few photos from a different perspective and from the other side of the ship...

We got some lovely views as we headed out of Dover…
…. And once again, you could see the French coast about 30 miles away!
We did wonder whether the holes you can see on this were from battle… I suspect they were probably some form of defence, maybe from the Second World War.
We turned enough to get some views of Dover…
… but decided that we’d head out on deck to see the white cliffs… they looked amazing in the sunlight.
Now do you see what I mean when I said in my pre-trip report about this being such a beautiful sight to all those who returned from World War II?
We also saw South Foreland lighthouse…
Now we’ve walked there from Dover before. It’s about a 40 minute walk each way and we did it with friends and it was a lovey day. We were saying that and a couple overheard us and we got talking to them. It turned out she was from the Facebook group, although she didn’t have a button, but when she said her name, I recognised it from some of her posts. Cool! We got chatting about all sorts of things. They were from DC and they were saying they don’t bother doing the tourist sights any longer, as they’ve seen them so many times.
After we finished chatting with them, we wandered around deck 10, getting some photos in the blustery conditions…
Although I say it was blustery, it was enough to blow my hair around, but thankfully not much more than that.
Beautiful day to sail away - makes for some great photos! Sunshine makes such a difference!
I can't wait to hear more about your FB group gatherings later as it sounds like a good couple of people thus far.

Beautiful photos of the famed White Cliffs! I was curious, so I googled what it is that makes them white. Even though they look like chalk, I was surprised to learn that's actually what it is, as I think of chalk as being rather soft. Cool!
