As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I am off for a few days (getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow) so no work expenses! Monday was my last work day, I spent money on breakfast and lunch, but only $7 total. Yesterday I took the proncess car in to be fixed and it was $50 less than anticipated! I bought some shipping envelopes at K Mart ($3), delivered a long-overdue Christmas gift (free) and dropped our DVD burner off for repair. DH says we should try to have it fixed before we buy a new one! I went home for lunch (free) and then went to the doctor for a recheck (free) and the oral surgeon for a consult. (free). And...my insurance will cover all my dental work, including the extraction! The only thing I will have to pay is my $50 deductible!
Today I need to go to the post office and stop at the grocery store.
Tomorrow is my tooth day, I may or may not be here, depending on how much pain I am in!

I fell off the frugal wagon Saturday. Dillards had a sale. I needed the lingerie and the like but I spent $152.43. I got a robe, 5 pajama sets and 12 pairs of underwear. The total it would have been had it NOT been on sale was $476.00. I mean I saved but I spent.
I've got to be strong... My new job offers hot lunches everyday at $5 each... the problem is that everyone says they are really good and they smell really good... maybe I'll treat myself once or twice a month... we'll see.
I got 3 dollar store items today, $3. And I picked up DS's Freecycle clothes and there were Buzz Lightyear pj's and a Pooh shirt straight from WDW. Boy, they made me think about finagling a cheapo-sized trip (we have enough Delta miles for one ticket, and DS is still small/containable enough to have him on our laps) but I'm determined to be good. But it's hard!!!
I don't get paid until Friday but my work's paycheck software was updated today...things are looking good! Usually when I look at a paycheck I divvy up the amts in my head because it's usually spent before I get it...but this week I kept second guessing myself thinking "Water Bil.?...no, that's paid. Light Bill?...that was already paid... Car Payment, that was paid...." and I was unsure of what to do with it! Sure enough I figured out where it could go, but it was an unusual problem to have!
I splurged at lunch and bought a cup of tomato soup to go with the sandwich I brought in for lunch. I paid the $500 security deposit for our July cottage. Tomorrow night will be bad - a hair cut and highlights at a fancy place (which I justify by getting 2 less haircuts a year than I would if I went to a non-fancy place.....I am amazed sometimes at the amount of time my mind spends justifying spending my hard earned money!)
I have heard about this interesting concept. Say I spend $20.00 for a taxi. I make ten dollars an hour. That is two hours of my life that I have spent paying for the taxi ride. Was it worth it????? Two hours I will never get back. So its possible to look at what you spend in terms of life/hours spent getting the money for it. In that case I can hold out for more worth it type stuff sometimes. But sometimes I just need a taxi to get me where I am going. Does this make sense? And again my example is just a simple one. I certainly make more then that. And I did not come up with this concept but not sure who to credit.

I've seen this on Oprah, I think, a few years ago. One example was looking at a $75 angora sweater and thinking how many hours you'd have to work to pay for it. (I'm sure you'd look as cute in an angora sweater as you would in a cab ride, Scott. ) My problem is that I still find myself justifying, like "well, I just paid for it with easy Saturday hours rather than with grueling busy Tuesday hours I put in...." I just have to put myself on a money diet, and tell myself NO! But if you're in a situation where your safety is concerned, I don't think you should feel guilty in paying for it. Can you get a car? It would probably be more affordable.
Scott, I do that all the time, esp w/ DDs. They make $5/hour, so when they want to buy something (esp at WDW), we talk about how long they had to cut ribbon or package page kits or fold shirts and did they think it was worth it. A lot of the time, the answer is NO and they are learning a valuable lesson about the worth of a dollar! Keep up the good work thinking that way!
Today was a road-trip day, so I bought all three meals on the road. FYI Roy Rogers burgers are just plain gross. I was too chicken to try Quizno's (never had it before), but I wish I had. Tolls and gas double , but at least I didn't have the trailer this time, so it was cheaper (this show is the same place as the last one, so I parked my trailer here...going home Sunday will be cha-ching again...) I also signed up w/ Sprint (through my DB who's an employee) for a wireless broadband card, so now I can have internet at all my shows (and process credit cards on the spot). It'll cost me$30/month, but it's a necessary expense.
This show is supposed to have more people than the last one, so here's hoping they are in a shopping mood (unlike the last one)!
