Me, Muffin, Katie, Megan, the Adlers and Various Resorts!, - Page 12 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Your AK day was fantastic from start to finish. I can't believe we didn't cross paths at least once this day because from your pictures we were in the same areas several times, though quite possibly at different times. You kept mentioning the heat, and I couldn't remember that. It must not have bothered Luke and me as I don't have anything about the day being hot in my notes.

I was sure that we would run into each other today, too! It was definitely hot to us! Lovely hot. The mornings and evenings were cooler but the afternoon sun was hot enough for swimming!!
I woke up early this morning and let Muffin sleep in a bit. I walked to the Mara for some coffee and then walked around the lobby:
I will never get over what a beautiful resort AKL is!!
I went back to the room and finished my coffee while watching for animals but I remembered Ryan saying on the Sense of Africa Tour that this was feeding time and it was pretty empty save a few birds. Muffin was stirring and eventually got up and showered and we began another day!!
We were headed to MK this morning and caught the bus over without incident. We had a FP+ for 7DMT at 8:50 and had a little time beforehand so we stopped at Main Street Bakery and got a coffee, tea, sausage and egg sandwich and a lemon loaf. I also got a MK you are here Starbucks mug and now I only need an Epcot one and I will have all four parks!
Then we rode IASW because there was no wait:
By now, our FP+ was good so we headed over to 7DMT. I love this ride and, like everyone, my only complaint is that it is too short.
Next we rode the Haunted Mansion:
We headed toward Our next FP+ for BTMRR!!
Then we did the Jingle Cruise!! I just love what they’ve done to the place for Christmas!! Plus it was the best Jungle Cruise ride I had ever taken!! Muffin and I got on a boat with a huge tour group of Japanese tourists who didn’t speak a word of English. Our skipper, Hailey, was basically telling corny jokes to only us while everyone else took selfies the whole time!! It was hysterical!!
We stopped to watch the Frozen show at the Castle:
Then we rode our last FP+ of the day on Space Mountain:
Remember when people used to do this?!
Finally, we rode the Peoplemover before heading out of the park.
On the way out we stopped to watch the Barbershop Quartet:
We caught a monorail to the Polynesian and had a really good lunch at the Kona Cafe! first we stopped at Tonga Terrace for a drink:
These are well loved glasses in our home and they are over 20 years old!! We use them for everything, including serving desserts!! You used to be able to get them free with a drink and then they were 3.50 each. I asked the bartender if they were still for sale and he said yes and thought they about 10 bucks. Not a bad inflation rate!!
The Kona Cafe is another beautiful restaurant!! I have eaten here for breakfast many times but never any other meal.
I had pistachio Crusted Mahi Mahi and Muffin had a Noodle Bowl. We both had water to drink:
Pistachio Crusted Mahi Mahi
Noodle Bowl
After lunch, we walked around the Poly for a bit and checked out the shops. Then we took the walking path to the Grand Floridian and I stopped at Basin to get some soaps for the girls at work. I had them shipped home because it only cost 1.99 and I couldn’t get them sent to AKL.
No tree yet, but they were putting up the Gingerbread House!
Next up: Another swim break and our evening at DHS!!

Once again, you've already packed a crazy amount into your day! I love the way Christmas is just appearing at Disney - perfect timing for me reading this, as we've just finished decorating the tree!
Your Savanna tour looked wonderful! You both certainly pack a lot into your days and nights. The Jungle Cruise story was so funny. The Gingerbread House was up when we went a couple weeks ago which was so lovely to see! I'm going to inquire about those glasses at the Polynesian bar next time we're there. I have the really old ones that are large with the green writing on them that says Polynesian Resort and we use them as a small ice bucket for dinner parties. I love walking around the Poly!
What an active day you have had to start at the MK! You packed a lot of attractions in and especially the Jingle Cruise with the Japanese tourists sounded like a funny experience! Lunch looked good at Kona Cafe. I've ate there twice. One for breakfast on a stay back in 2009 and once before that for breakfast. Been quite a while, but enjoyed it.

Caught back up. You’ve had more great times - the Savannah tour sounds fantastic. We’ve done the night vision goggles just at AKL, and I thought those were cool. Even better to be able to be that close to the lions with them!
