FOR THE HOLIDAYS , MISCHIEF AND MAYHEM AT THE FORT - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Lucille has been checking a variety of sources and has found out that the Kiosk's used during F&W Fest. are being brought out for the holidays. She is impressed with the offerings and wants to try some of them. So for now larger portions of our down days during the week between Christmas and New Years will be spent in EPCOT trying out the fare and checking out the various holiday perfomances
Love the plans and sampling the kiosks in Epcot is a good idea!

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
Sorry for leaving everyone hanging out there but having to cancel this trip after day one the road left me more than a bummed out.
On the 17th I went over and picked up th coach from our local dealer where I had it in for dewinterizizng ( Get the anti freeze out of the pipes ) and we loaded up everything we hadn't the before it went over. This is where we got our 1st indication that there was a problem. Even with plugging into regular household current we can run the fridge only this time we got power alarm going off. I decided that it ws because the cold had so drained the house batteries that all juice was going there. No problem on the road we run it off the propane so that is what I tuned on. We ran the rest of the system by turning on the generator.
Departure day came and we were all up by 6am With my coffee I went out and started the engine to warm the thing up for the ride. After a quick breakfast and letting the girls out for some exercise we noticed they were barking and carrying on more than usual so we went out to see what was happening. One of our neighbors dogs had gotten loose and was looking for some playmates. Finally get him home , have another coffee to warm up and now its time to round up our gang.
The girls all get another calming candy and are sent outside. We have checked all the rooms upstairs and closed the doors to prevent anyone from hiding under a bed.
Chubbs was easy she was on her perch in the pantry room sitting there watching the dogs roam around the yard. Catch her and out she goes. As is her want she cries a bit looks around and hightails it for her hideyhole under our bed. Back inside and start search for Chester. All his regular spots Chairs in kitchen and dining room, under the sofa into bathroom and make sure he isn't taking a bath or checking the sheet count on the TP roll. No not here . Okay he must have snuck into of the rooms upstairs without us knowing. Did 3 complete searches of each room including dressers and closets , still NO Chester Back downstairs. Now the 3 dogs are at he door looking to come WookieBear is smart enough to know that with all we have done so far we are going ADVENTUREING and she is ready. Now armed with a flashlight we start search all over. We tore the pantry apart before deciding this room is clear we now close this door. Another search of the Bathroom all clear. Check in and behind the washer dryer and hot water heater all good. Dining room Chairs and under table clear Buffet China cabinet and closet clear kids gates get placed and secured. Kitchen chairs and table all good Caninets and behind fridge clear (I even checked the garbage and recycling bins) still no Chester. Last room to search is living room for the 4th time. Behind the bookcase and fire place end tables under and behind sofa and our Lazy Boys No Chester about now we having have been searching for this cat for like 90min. My patience is gone and he can stay home and fend for himself as far as I was concerned ( I wouldn't do that to him our neighbor is willing to come over everyday and feed him all i needed to do was ask ) Lucille at this point sat in her chair out of frustration and jumped up She felt something move . Look up under the seat and there in the springs is Chester looking like Where my trophy for being the hide and go seek champion. He was held a little tighter than normal as we went out to the coach. Back inside get the girls in, leash them up and only 2 hours late we are off.
Thank heavens there is rest stop on 301 like 45 min from the house as the excitement of the mourning had caught up with us an both Lucille and I needed a pit stop. For heir first time traveling in the coach Sky and Katie are doing well. We had gotten and installed a child's gate behind our Captain's chairs so when we stop for fuel, potty breaks and the like we can put their leashes on them or go out without them. Katie at first was crying as she wants to help me drive and navigate for me but oon settled down as she could lay there with WookieBear. Sky does very well in the car but seems a bit nervous in the coach so Lucille decided to ride back with them. Sky instantly decided she needed to crawl in Mommy's lap to make her feel better. Except when I was passed or was passing a large truck she did well. At our next stop a Va Rest Stop just south of Richmond we all got out to stretch or legs The kids were more interested in just checking everything out and it took a while for them to get the idea of why we stopped. Lucille and I loaded them all back in the BUS and off we went again. Next stop the Pilot Flying J fuel stop at exit 11 Fueled up pulled off to the side and took the Girls for another walk before getting back on the road. I had laugh as I pulled out of the Service area as this is where on our last trip as I went to turn onto the access ramp for 95 wookieBear decided that her normal place on my feet while in my chair was where she needed to be. Here I was trying to give it some gas to make the turn with my right leg up in the air. Fourty minutes later we were checking in at The Crossroads at Carolina Crossing. Pulled into assigned spot. Leveled out the coach Extended slides , Connected water and electric before heading off to the Bark Park. When we got back (only stayed like 10 min as it was raining lightly and very raw out ) The alarm for power to fridge is still going off. Check all the fuses all good. Check charging function for house and engine batteries nothing. Check outside shore line plug right receptacle but internal light on post is dark call office they tell me to move to adjacent site and send repairman right over Move sites and still no power Repairman test both post both have power okay it's us By now it's 5pm on a Sunday in Dec. we decide best thing to do is stay put for the night All the kids get fed and another trip to the Bark Park. I cranked up the Genny and we decide that we will run it till quiet hours and then restrict electric use to furnace and flashlights. The next morning the office called to find out how we made out and give us names and numbers of some places nearby where might be able to get the problem fixed. We have already called Good Sam and our extended warrenty provider for referals. Everyone we talked to said they could take care of it and they would be happy to see us after Jan. 4th even Major dealerships near WDW. Our decision was to turn around and go home. Lucille called our TA and explained what was happening and fortunately she was able to shift things around and we got a full refund and she has since booked us for nearly identical trip this year.
Trip home was disappointing and uneventful. Our repair facility said if I wanted I could bring it right in but it might take 2 days to get it operational but Just told them to re winterize, diagnose, order parts and and do repairs that we have previously discussed and have now just came up .
The best was the look on the faces of some friends when I showed up at a local club the next night I told one woman that the Commonwealth of Va had a problem with me jogging au natural on I95 so we cut trip short
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you. My goodness, talk about a cursed trip - it sounded as if everything conspired against you. I couldn't help but laugh about Chester sitting there wanting his trophy for being the hide and seek champion!
I hope that's all your bad luck over and done with and this year's trip works out perfectly for you.
Sorry to hear about this Mike and hope you have better luck on your newly booked trip!

Sorry your trip was cut short due to unforseen repairs.
As for Chester - we do the same song and dance here way too often. Under the springs is a new none for me though. I love when they surface feom God n only knows where after we are going crazy looking and they give you that perplexed look of "what silky thing are you doing surely you were not looking for me?"
