♥ ♥ Lovey Dovey in Disney! -- Our PTR for Dec 2010 - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We have our trip planned for Dec and I really want this job, but am worried they may not be okay with me taking off so soon after starting, if I even get it that is.
Hope you find a house you love!
Thanks! I work in retail, and have been at my most recent job for nearly a year and a half. Doug and I have been planning our vacation longer so I put in the dates early so that I knew I'd get it off for sure. Since my new job is within the same corporation, I was curious as to whether or not my vacation time would be transferred over as well.. lucky for me, it will! -- Like you, this was one of my biggest concerns , but FH2b told me they'd probably ask me during the end of my interview or at orientation if there are any dates I need off. I waited until the very tail-end of the interview. I was asked if I had any questions and that's when I mentioned the time off. -- So be optimistic, girl! I'm sure that's the attitude they're looking for, and much luck to you on nailing the new job!

Thanks, Pinkyt! And I LOVE house hunting. Especially the whole being able to uh... legally snoop in other people's spaces! I've been looking around online to see what all's out there and it's so much fun. I can't wait til we're able to go out looking together. -- I know whatcha mean about loving the neighborhood you're in. I think that's half of what you should always take into consideration when buying a new home.

I said sorry & my mom was super nice about the whole thing. My dad got rid of her one day about a year later. Kinda mean but I guess I should have asked in the first place. I am leaving tomorrow for FL!! I will try to check in here if I can. If not I will catch up when we get home!! Take care can't wait to read more!!
Awwee! I was the same way as a kid when it came to animals. If I saw it, it was probably going to come home with me. We lived close to the woods and so you can just imagine the animals I had. We had ducks, baby chicks (my dad would get me several every year during easter at this feed store he would buy tools at, they dyed them all sorts of different colors and sold them for like a $1 a chick, it was the coolest thing!) a raccoon (yes it was straight from the wild, but it would always come up to you and let you pet it, it followed me around everywhere. We eventually named it rocky, LOL.), many dogs and cats, bunnies, birds, iguanas, a ferret that we gave away very shortly after my dad brought it home.. those things poop like there's no tomorrow. We had fish of course and the occasional turtle I'd bring home from playing outside. Wow, looking back on it now it's a wonder my mom didn't have a nervous breakdown!
I want you to have the most terrifical-est time at the Mouse's house, oh! And eat a cupcake for me while you're there! -- OH! And thank ou so so much for the holiday pixie, you're a total doll!
So a very Happy wednesday to everyone! I'm off work today... Well, I'm going to have quite a bit of off-time on the account of my job transfer not going in effect until after the 30th, so I'm going to devote much of my time today to my next PTR installment! Can I get a WOOT WOOT?!

So, we've been throwing the idea around of possibly paying to keep the rental for the rest of the vacation. That way there's no interruptions of having to drop the car off, or worries of making our DTD ADR's on time (I hear it takes a horrendous amount of time to get to DTD by bus from The Poly) and we could just drop it off at the Orlando airport before our flight. With the pay raise in our near future, we're leaning towards... Definitely YES!!
We've been trying extremely hard (every morning and night) to nab a breakfast ADR for Iron Chef Cat Cora's restaurant Kouzzina, but it's been impossible. We're going to go for a 9:15 breakfast reservation for Coronado Springs' Maya Grill instead. The food sounds delicious , but I'm a bit boggled over the menu. Is it a buffet or a buffet paired with a set menu? The official Disney site's (breakfast) Maya Grill Menu comes off as non-buffet with set choices, but on the side a buffet is mentioned? I'm so confroozled!
If we go by what's on the menu, We're both going to start with the Fresh Berries and Granola Parfait, Doug says he'd like to have a Mushroom and Mozzarella Omelet (he's being very adventurous here, he's not a big egg fan at all!) with Breakfast Potatoes and Toast for his entree. My entree will be their Steak and Huevos Rancheros - 2 eggs cooked to order and char grilled sirloin on corn tortillas, served with ranchera sauce and jack blend cheese.
Overall our 11th day will be pretty chillax, plenty of slow-paced relaxation, last-minute shopping , and a few very exciting dining spots.. Also, with the new decision to keep the car in mind, we've decided to add a little surprise at the end of the night. Hmm, wonder what it could be...
Welp first and foremost (after taking on a delicious Latin-infused breakfast and filling our tummies, of course), the plan is to take the monorail to explore Christmas around the resorts. You know what that means; PICTURES! -- I'm a huge fan of Christmas.. the beautiful decorations, the crispness in the air, the coziness of it all. It's so great! ..We're also looking forward to trying a few special treats at the resorts:
Beignets at Port Orleans Resort, French Quarter - Me
The Grown-up Grilled Cheese, The Polynesian Resort - FH2b
Zebra domes, Animal Kingdom Lodge - Me
The Coco Loco Shake, The Dolphin - chocolate and caramel cappuccino ice creams blended together, topped with whipped cream, malted milk balls and drizzled with chocolate and caramel sauces $6.25 - FH2b
The PB&J Shake, The Dolphin - peanut butter ice cream blended with strawberry topping, topped with whipped cream and Reese's Pieces $6.25 - Me
S'mores Kit, Fort Wilderness (more on this sweet treat later, part of the possible surprise!) - Both DH2b & I
It'll be my very first time riding the monorail so I'm pretty excited. I'm really looking forward to checking out all the different shops at the resorts too! What are your favorite shops? Any specific souvenirs worth mentioning? I'd love to check them out while we're there!
After loads of sight-seeing, I'm thinking we'll be ready to head over to DTD... My love was afraid we had included too much time here so we're going to be bouncing around, trying different things that we hadn't on the 9th. First up though? Lunch!
We've made a 1:00 lunch ressie for T-REX Cafe and we're really stoked! I'm hoping we can get a table in the Ice Cave section of the restaurant. --
We're going to share the Supersaurus appetizer (if you could even call it that, it sounds like we could make it a full meal among the two of us... but that's in a whole 'nother world. We're at Disney, people!) - Spinach and Pepper Jack Queso with tortilla chips, Brachiosaurus Bruschetta, T-Rexadillas, and Onion Rings.
Doug is going to try the Red Earth Rigatoni - Rigatoni simmered with Italian sausage, caramelized onions and mushrooms in a red wine tomato cream sauce and I'm having the Paleonzoic Chicken Sandwich - Fried Pizza dough with grilled chicken, lettuce, bacon, pepper jack cheese, avocado, tomato and lemon aioli.
For dessert, he's going to try and take on the Chocolate extinction - A gigantic portion of chocolate fudge cake served with ice cream, fresh whipped cream drizzled with fudge and caramel sauces and sprinkled with Butterfinger crumbs. Enough for two or more. And for me it's going to have to be the Meteor Bites - Warm chocolate and vanilla donut holes with powdered sugar. Served with caramel and chocolate sauces.
Oh my goodness gravy, I can't even imagine how stuffed we're going to feel after this meal is over. Yes we're insane, but the memories and all the awesome pictures taken during them will be beyond worth it!!
We wanted to check out a flick together at DTD's AMC theater. I figure after a lunch like this, we're going to want some down time. What's more perfect than seeing movie at the happiest place on earth? -- We're guesstimating on this, but we're hoping to choose between Tangled, Black Swan with Natalie Portman, or Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. What would you guys choose? Hmm.. maybe I'll make a poll. ..At least, once I figured out how!
I'm thinking it'd be nice to choose something un-disney related (wait, wait! let me explain!) 1.) because a vast majority of our trip is based around Disney, 2.) the 2 other movies are either somewhat or pretty dark, so the effect Disney would have on us after a somewhat or pretty dark film would be that much more magical. ..I so hope that made sense... Oh, but then again, and I just discussed this with Doug. HP movies tend to be a bit long. What, 2 to 2-1/2 hours? Would we have enough time before our 5:20 Dinner reservation?
Plus, 3.) Hubby to be is absolutely stoked about Black Swan, and after seeing the trailer for it.. so am I! Okay, I think the decision has been made. Black Swan it is!
So I know what you're thinking, "They're going to 'asplode!" ..That 5:20 dinner reservation I mentioned? It's at The Yachtman Steakhouse!
We've been looking over the menu the last couple nights and Doug has decided on starting with the Lobster Bisque - Maine Lobster and Crème Fraîche finished with Brandy. The Yachtsman Filet Mignon - 8-oz Filet, Mashed Potatoes, and Red Wine Sauce with a side of Sautéed Mushroom Caps in a Sherry and Cabernet Wine Sauce, and for dessert, he's going for the Trio of Valrhona Chocolate - Peanut, Espresso, and Salted Caramel (the desserts here look incredible!). -- I'm going to start off with the Seared Maine Diver scallops - with a Vanilla Boniato Fritter, Corn Porridge, and Radish Slaw. The “Prime” New York Strip Steak - 12-oz Strip Steak, Peppercorn Brandy Sauce, and White Cheddar Potato Gratin with a side of Truffle Mac & Cheese - Orecchiette Pasta and Reypenaer Then lastly (but bestly), A Tasting of Pistachio - Chiffon Cake, Gelato, Valrhona Chocolate Mousse, and Panna Cotta.
I mentioned a surprise earlier in my post. Wanna know what it is?
Do you really?
Ya sure..?
Okay, okay! We're leaning towards the idea of maybe, just possibly seeing the 9 'o clock show of Blue Man Group! I've seen their stuff on TV before and it's just too cool to pass up. We can get really great seats for much less than I thought it would cost. I'm thinkin' it's a possibility! -- Have any of you been to their show in Orlando? What'dja think?
If we do decide to go to the show, we're going to buy the tickets while we're there. If we decide against the show and want to do something a bit more toned down... remember the s'more kit I mentioned wanting earlier? Well we're really wanting to check out the campfire sing-along with an outdoor movie at one of the resorts. It'd be so much fun, not to mention romantic! And a definite blast to cap off the end of our day. -- What are your experiences with the campfires? What movies didja see?
Oh! And Speaking of S'mores! Since today is technically the first day of fall (I love s'mores most during the cooler months of the year rather than summer) I'm going to throw in this fun little bit for you guys to share with your families:

Thanks for the encouragement. That is what my mom told me too. She said when she got hired at Target, at the end of the interview they asked if there were any days she couldn't work and she said she had a trip to Disney planned and they said no problem. I am hoping it will work that way too.
You have a ton of plans. Hope you have a great time.

Then, make your decision. I'm totally kidding. I just watched the new trailer and after reading that you were trying to decide which movie to see...I had to share that . I your plans!!

Thanks, and no problem girly! Are you going for your interview at Target? I've worked for Target for a nearly a year and a half and I'm moving onto the distribution center. I heard they were much more strict but they're absolutely fine with me taking the 1st through the 15th of December off for vacation time. I think you'll be just fine. Much luck to ya.

I know it, I know! The setback here though for sure is the timing. Harry Potter movies are pretty long, so I'm thinkin' we won't have the time to see it if we want to make our 5:20 ADR. Plus, if we scratch the Blue Man Group, we'll for sure be seeing a Disney movie at the end of the night on the beach, WOO!
DFH and I are pretty stoked about HP&TDH though, so we'll most likely end up seeing it before the trip when it first comes out. I'm soo exciiiited!!

No it's not with Target, that is where my mom worked.
It is for an internal auditor with the indian casinos here in Oklahoma. I had the interview yesterday and I should know something by next week the lady said. They never asked about any days I couldn't work. I will just wait and see if I get it and then bring it up and see what they say. If I can't get off I will just have to wait and go to WDW next year. I already have my back up plan if I get the job and can't take off.
