Trip Report - Jan 14-22 Cruise/WDW: A Disney Trip Full of Hope! COMPLETED!! 7/15 - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sorry about the room. I completely understand. I mean you are in Disney and do expect so much more. But it is best to bring it to their attention and hopefully it won't happen again. Congratulations Aunt Melissa!!!!!!
What a great TR so far! (Despite some of the issues you have had). I am so jealous of your tea at the GF - I have wanted to do that for a while and just haven't had the time yet. Next time, I guess!
Can't wait to hear about the rest of the trip and see how Hope does in the parks!

How cool you got to see Cindy's Glass Carriage too during your Tea Time. That will be so special when Hope gets to join you one day for Tea at the GF Melissa.
Monday, January 18th: Part one – Blew out my flip flop!
This update is going to be a little bit longer than usual, but I'll make up for it when the next one is actually shorter than usual .
It was a beautiful morning when we woke up, and my little Hope was ready to go.
The weather channel was saying that it was going to be in the 70’s today, so I opted for shorts. We left pretty early so it was still chilly, however, it never warmed up that much more…stupid weatherman!
When we got the park, the first thing I needed to do was feed her and fill up her baby bottles with water from the Baby Care Center. But first, I had to take a couple of pictures.
After reading about the centers on the boards I was really excited to use them first hand. So, this section is for the new mothers or mothers-to-be that want to know what it’s like in there. It was so quiet and clean. I was able to feed her in a high chair without any noise around me. Plus, I could fill up all of her bottles without having to buy more bottled water…these centers were a Godsend.
While I was in the center, my mom was out collecting our fast passes for Kilimanjaro Safari. When she got back, I was finished and we decided to take a walk through the Pangani Forest Trail until it was time to use them. At first, the animals weren’t doing much, and a couple of them weren’t even out to see…or they were hiding really well . All the action occurred when we were watching the gorillas. As we approached the main area by the bridges, we heard this loud growl , and then we saw the male gorilla running around . By the time we made it over the crowded area, he had retreated behind a bush, but apparently he was trying to get the attention of the female across the water. They’re all separated, but they can still see each other and he wasn’t happy I guess. Or it was something else…hint hint, nudge nudge .
It was time for our safari ride and this was also Hope’s first official ride on Disney property .
We headed out in our jeep, and began to search out the animals. I think all of them were today! We didn’t see nearly as much as we usually do, but then again, I was to busy watching Hope’s reactions to really pay attention to those boring animals …I did snap a few shots though.
By this time we decided to head on over to EE to see if we could grab FPs for mom and I. Chad can’t do rides that go backwards, and my father has a really bad back, so anything rough is out for him. It was around 11am and all of the passes were gone already and it was an 85 minute wait !!! I love that ride, but not 85 minutes worth of love . We made the decision to come back later to see what the wait time was, crossing our fingers that we would be able to ride it.
We were starting to get hungry so we ended up heading on over to Restaurantosaurus in DinoLand. By the time we made it over there, she was passed out.
As I’m walking over to a table to park her, I stumbled and looked down at my foot. My flip flop had broke !!! (For all you Parrot Heads…that was a reference to Margaritaville in this update’s title). The little strap had torn off of the body of the shoe and every time I tried to walk, the part that my foot actually lays on would go off to the side. This was no good . I needed a shoe and I wasn’t going to walk with a limp the rest of the day, so this really nice CM who saw the whole thing happen, pointed me to Chester & Hesters Dinosaur Treasures. My mom went with me, and I walked the whole way barefoot…which I hated !!! I don’t like the idea of my feet walking on yuckiness. They threw my old pair away for me and I put my new Mickey flip flops on .
I went back to get our lunches, and by that time she was wide awake and hanging with daddy.
We filled our bellies and headed out to enjoy another of my favorite rides at AK…Primevil Whirl! This ride always makes me giggle . Dad waited for us with Hope and when we were done there we headed over to FOTK.
I wasn’t sure how she was going to do with this show, but we were about to find out. This is my favorite live production show in the parks. I always said if I could perform in one show on property this would be the one. They always look like they have so much fun and the music always gives me goosebumps. Anyway, she did very well in the show, but again, I paid way more attention to her than I did to those boring performers !!!
We followed the rest of the park (well at least it felt that way) out of the show, and decided to head back on over to EE.
We were hoping the wait time was a little better, so imagine our surprise when we got there and it was only 55 minutes…much much better ! We left Hope again with the guys and went to go stand in line. What happened next is one of the reason’s I get so irritated with people on vacation…well, stupid people…not all people .
We’re standing in line, and in front of us are two teenagers, a boy and a girl, we didn’t think anything of it…we’re just enjoying our 55 minute wait . A few minutes later, two more kids show up and get in line with them, no big deal, maybe they were just lagging behind and needed to catch up. Another few minutes later three more people show up ! This time it was two adults and a child…obviously the parents or the chaperones…people who know better than to do what they were doing. By this time my mom and I were getting irritated, so I say loud enough for them to hear, “If one more person jumps in this line I’m going to scream.” The “mother” gives me a look of disgust and starts talking to one of the teenagers, who also gives me a look. Now, keep in mind that we haven’t even made it into the real queue of the ride, which was most likely because everyone kept going ahead of the rest of us .
A few minutes later go by (can you tell the theme of this story), and that’s right boys and girls , three more teenagers get in front of us. That was it, there was about to be a rumble in the jungle ! I said, “You’ve got to be kidding me! One or two people are okay, but twenty?!? This has got to stop!” The “mother” turns around again and says “This is my group, and we’re all together!” So my mom says, “That’s fine, just get in line ALL together, not a few here a few there!” Her response to us was, “Whatever!” Whatever? WHATEVER!?!
Now that my blood pressure was up, and I was in street fighter mode, I wasn’t going to take anymore people getting in front of us. By then it calmed down and all was quiet for a while at least. We made our way through the line, and happened upon the one spot where everyone tries to throw a coin in the cups.
That took our minds off the morons in front of us for while . Even the people behind us had begun to get upset. By this time we were almost to the train, and you’ll never guess what happened next ? That’s right , you guys are so smart, another woman made her way through the entire line to meet up with the group from hell. A couple of the kids looked at us to see what we were going to say, because by now they knew what they were doing was wrong. The people behind us took care of it this time, and words were exchanged. By the time we made it on the ride I was just hoping I wouldn’t see them when I got off.
They put us in the very last car, which is the first time I’ve experienced the ride this way. Let me just tell you, it was AMAZING! I actually came out of my seat going down that hill! By far well worth the horror that had ensued beforehand.
We found the rest of our “group” and decided that Hope was getting a little cranky so we would head back to the resort for a while. We left my parents while they stayed to enjoy the park a bit longer. For the most part, it was a wonderful day at AK, minus the idiots at EE, and even though we didn’t get to see everything we usually do, it was well worth all of the wonderful first-time moments with Hope !

Wonderful update Melissa. The picture of Hope sleeping is priceless. Sorry about those morons. I would have reacted the same way as you. That drives me insane when people with no courtesy or consideration do that. Sorry to hear about your flip flop(thanks for he heads up on that, must bring a few pair with). I love your Jimmy Buffet reference. Margaritaville is one of my fave songs. Looking foward to more please!
Grrrr.... What is up with people jumping in line? I'd kind of like to see you take on a rumble in the jungle Glad the ride was worth it - even if you did come out of your seat Now I'll never ride that darn thing!!

I would have been extremely upset like you. My DH would have been all over that. I can understand a parent taking a child to the bathroom etc, but that many people is going overboard. That is just plain rude as well.
All caught up! I can't believe your room wasn't cleaned - Eww! And the people with the gigantic group cutting in line is just horrible! What a great message they are teaching those kids
