Swilley Family Finally Does Disney 'Right'!~Trip Report~**Updated 9/29** - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hey Jill, I finally got around to reading your TR. I absolutely love it!!! Your kids are so adorable - and it's so awesome how everything is new and exciting for them. As much fun it is to do Disney as adults, I just cannot wait to go to Disney once DH and I have kids of our own!
I'm looking forward to reading more about your trip!
Sounds like a great (if a bit hectic) meal, Jill. The Crystal Palace is actually my favorite character buffet, and I'm not really a fan of the 100 Acre Wood gang. I think the food is And I encourage you to include as many pictures as you want. Besides, with kids as cute as yours, nobody's going to complain about more pictures!

I know what you mean about Character Buffets being hectic, but is sure is worth it to see those smiles on the kids faces. I agree with Sharon about your pictures, bring em on, your kids are so cute, I can't get enough of them!

My kids and DH were a little disappointed with the first character meal because they though that meant the characters would be sitting at our table! I said, actually, that would become awkward quite quickly since they can't talk or eat--how many hand gestures can you make?!

I will never forget that comment--sweetest moment ever!

I'm totally loving your TR. I know exactly what you mean about the character buffets. Even though my kids are old enough now to go up and get their own food (although I still have to supervise the 8 year old), it's still stressful to make sure everyone is in their seat when the characters come around. We were at the Tusker House breakfast a few weeks ago, and I was trying to get some food, and my daughter comes racing up to me in the buffet line yelling "Daisy's coming, Daisy's coming)... so needless to say I raced back to the table... LOL. But even with the stress, I still love them too.
Great update! Yes, I can relate to the "stress" of character meals. Even though my kids are older now, I still feel like we can't relax until all of the characters have visited, and it's always a race to squeeze in another trip to the buffet before the next character arrives!

I keep thinking the buffets will get easier as the boys get older. It still wasn't easy this last trip! Good thing they weren't rushing us out of CP! It took forever for us to eat with all of the up's and down's!
just read your TR your kids are little cuties! OMGosh the airport pic and the one of Leah watch the Play House Disney Show brought tears to my eyes and hope that my youngest will look the same way!
Great job so far Jill. I totally agree about the raft and ashamed to say, we often skip Tom's Isalnd now days becuase we do not want to wait for the raft. I know it is part of the details but it would be nice to have a "small hidden back door bridge" for those of us that want to skip that detail and enjoy the island. I definitley think the buffets get easier. It was a huge stree when my boys were little, but now the character buffets are our favorite and the boys can deal with their own books and character look-outs. Can't wait to hear more.

Yes, hidden, so those unpatient ones of us can get there quick and check it off the list! Plus, I'm telling you, the bathroom is worth it!

I know, I caught myself waving frantically at one point trying to get Shannon's attention when Tigger was coming. Maybe they should hand out pagers so your table could be alerted when a character is like two tables away--like the GPS announcements on the buses!

Maybe that's how they keep you from eating to much!

Yes, and my kids, who got to eat first were begging to leave as DH and I were just getting started! But, I don't mean to be a complainer...like I said, I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

(Holy big pictures, Batman--sorry, must have resized a little huge!) There are few things more beautiful and we had a great time at our first evening in the MK. After our bellies were full from CP, we headed toward Mickey Philarmagic (as the touring plan suggested—still trying to do things by the book at this point as it is the only way to get the most out of our vacation ). I should back up and say that I had originally made a mad dash all the way around the park looking for FP's that would be timed perfectly for after dinner before dinner, and Buzz was the only one late enough to grab. So, we were hoping Mickey's Philarmagic was still a short wait. We waited for about 15 min and were able to get some shots of the kids in their “cool” glasses.
In my tally of bests and worsts—Mickey's is by far the best 3-D attraction. A “must see” in our books!
We then headed for Tomorrowland.
Our FP's for Buzz were ready and thank God since by this point the kids were getting a little slap happy and acting out a bit in line!! They were drawing attention, but thankfully people were laughing at how hyper they were instead of rolling their eyes. (I did not think they were as cute).
I think our scores for Buzz were only in the 7,000's, so I will not show off that picture. In my defense, I did have Isaiah and Leah in my car, so I was very distracted. Next was the Laugh Floor, which was very funny and had lots of great crowd interaction. Actually, a little over the kids' heads, but Shannon and I thought it was super cute! I was able to snap this pic before the announcement of “no pictures” was made...oops...
We waited for the Speedway next and had an unexpected visitor join our car! I had Micah and Leah this time. I should explain that for some reason, I was very popular today and the boys kept fighting over who got to ride with me ( Shannon- I secretly it). So we'd switch off every other. We weren't sure whether they'd let Leah on since we kept watching for other little ones coming off and never saw any...but, they said sure and me and my under aged drivers took off! As a side note, is why the MK was easily named our favorite park. It was so nice for our whole family to be able to ride on so many things together (I think I recall from Walt's 'One Man's Dream' movie that that was his intention! Thanks Walt.) But, I digress. So, I'm being tossed all over by the 3 year old behind the wheel and about half way through the ride I notice that on the white plastic “rules” sign directly in front of me a FROG has hitched a ride!! I didn't want to freak out the kids, so I didn't say anything, but my mind was working overtime about what the heck I would do if he decided to jump in! (Has it become apparent that I'm not an amphibian lover)!?! Well he hung on for what seemed like forever, but thankfully jumped off the other direction! Crisis averted.....now that could've turned into a very entertaining story! Picture me jumping out of the car and running away screaming with a kid under each arm through the grass and over the fence into Toon Town to escape the terrible torture of a frog!
We notice the hub was getting crowded, so went to find a spot for Wishes. We did sqeeze in on the bridge between Tomorrowland and the castle, but it couldn't have been the spot everyone suggested. Tink did fly overhead, but otherwise our view was blocked somewhat by a large tree- so I didn't get any pictures.
Our plan was to stay for the late Spectro, but the kids were obviously really tired and getting crabby. I was a little selfish here and wanted to stay so I suggested we get snacks and wait it out. We found a curb side spot, parked the strollers and I stayed with a then sleeping Leah, while Shannon and the boys went on a hunt for treats! They came back with a LARGE rice krispie treat and diet coke for me and candy for themselves. If I recall they got swords full of little sour sugar pellets and a little Mickey with the same candy for Leah.
Spectro did not disappoint! I can still hear the music in my head and it makes me instantly happy and dreamy! I am happy to award Spectromagic—Best Nighttime Show/Parade! I took a ton of pictures, so I'll share some of my favorites.
Oh, the sweetest moment... mid parade Leah wakes and sits straight up and immediately starts waving and calling out to her favorite characters like she never missed a beat! It was so cute. I remember saying to Shannon, “she must be thinking, wow, this is a cool dream!”
We left with the crowds and all the kids were asleep by the time we arrived back at ASMu. We put them to bed and I repacked the backpack and laid out clothes for the following day before hitting the pillow hard myself.
Up next: My Birthday at the Animal Kingdom!
