The Magical Mystery Trip - Day 3 Part 5 - Cali Grill **Updated 2/14 by Melissa** - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Okay, to save time Andy and I are writing this part together. His part will be in red while mine is in green I should also say that we are sitting together writing this whilst sharing one of the three Earl of Sandwich cookies we hoarded home
After BTMRR we walked over to Fantasyland to meet up with Cheryl and Mark and Maureen and her clan. Everybody said their hellos and shared their hugs...
We were headed to do Philharmagic but we got distracted by Peter Pan. Everybody wanted to hop on there since there wasn't a line. I'm not sure who everybody rode with, but we ended up riding with Mark.
He talked to us about the joys of not having children. I don't remember what happened exactly but it was cued by some child antics
Anyway, I think Mark was going to ride by himself so we decided that the three of us could squeeze into one ship together, so we did. When Andy sat down it made this awful squeaking squawking noise.
And for some reason Mark thought my squeaking and squawking noise was freaking hilarious
I, however, was just hoping that we didn't go crashing down into London.
Mark started talking about how London doesn't look like that anymore
To which I just immediately assumed he was being a smarty pants and I joked with him about that. Sometimes it's really hard to tell when he's being serious or screwing with you......
I think he's just always testing the water.....saying something to you to see what you'll say back.
Then we walked over to Philharmagic and Cheryl started passing out her British crack....aka the CHOCOLATE
OH yes, the ceremonial chocolate. It was good.
I just love how they bust out the bag of chocolate and start passing it around...
Anyway... we went in and stood in the queue (it's important to use that british term as I'm about to tell this story)....
We started talking to Mark about our new favorite show which comes on the BBC America. Top Gear. First we started talking about the "Toyboata" the Toyota they turned into a boat. Mark started laughing and talking about the truck that they sunk tried to send to the bottom of the river but it still came back no matter what they tried to do it. That's the same truck they used to make the Toyboata.
As they finished laughing about it the doors opened and we made our way in.
Mark started fussing about how people don't know how to move all the way down.
Yes, I have issues with that as well. Anyway.... we grabbed our seats and I made a comment that mine was wet and that someone must have ridden splash and then sat in my seat...but really I knew it was just the spray during the show. But Cheryl must've thought I was serious so everybody moved down once the non-moving down people finally got the message and moved down....
That's one cool dude right there folks....
We just love Philharmagic. It's Andy's favorite attraction at the MK. He just started telling me that he gets emotional during two parts... one being when Peter Pan comes on and the other when you swoop down into the streets with Donald flying on the carpet. I can totally understand where he's coming from. I do love that attraction....the music, the movies....good stuff!
After the show we shopped in the shop right outside Philharmagic. I had to pick up the MVMCP ornament for this year, but I was sad that it didn't have the year on it. But oh well, I can write it on myself. Meanwhile Andy found something that he really wanted...
I didn't really want it, it was just a good stupid photo op...and it was my color It'll go great with my Dee Snyder outfit (see previous update if you're clueless)... In the picture I'm actually yelling "Are you ready to ROCK?!?"
OKay, enough of that....
I hope people don't think I'm a Twisted Sister fan. I liked the fact that Dee Snyder spoke out against the parental advisory board but I've never listened to a lick of their music except for that song b/c I've seen the video
Okay, TMI....
Anyway...After Philharmagic we headed out to Tomorrowland. I wanted to see if I could find Stitch's little Christmas shindig and I had heard that it was at Cosmic Ray's. Now while there was some silly dude dressed up
like an elf nonetheless.
and leading the macarena in there, I had a feeling there wasn't going to be any Stitch. So I headed back and found the group. On our way out of Tomorrowland I spotted his little stage and almost had a coniption. I made everybody go over there to wait for him. But we didn't have to wait long b/c he came right out! I don't have any pictures of my own at the moment. We pre ordered the photopass CD and there are pictures there and Cheryl took pictures as well, so we'll have to see how those turned out. I did get poked fun at for being such a Stitch lover and I tried to turn the tables on Angie so they'd make fun of her for being such a Pooh lover and Cheryl for being such an Eeyore lover, but nobody seemed to take the bait. When I get my photopass CD I'll add those pics He liked my homemade tshirt.
He was a really confused Stitch. There was too many people posing with him and he didn't really know what to do.
That's a group of PP'ers for ya
Once I got my Stitch fix we headed out onto the bridge heading out of Tomorrowland and set up camp for Wishes. We had met up with Bill and his crew and Maureen and her clan had left us after Philharmagic. Anyway, we snagged about a billion pictures with a photopass guy at the picture spot with the castle in the background (again, I'll post those when I get my CD).
Here's where we were standing...
And I don't know what caused this photo, but it cracks me up..
I only have one photo of Wishes that I'm going to post. I took a bajillion but they all look the same to me...
And then I took a couple of Tomorrowland
After Wishes we headed out to grab a spot for the second parade. On the way...
Once we found everybody Angie and I went to find the MVMCP pin. When we asked the CM at the register he responded with "I only have three left" and acted like he wasn't going to sell them to us. Or he was only going to sell one and not two.
I couldn't tell if he was messing with you or not
Either way he was starting to irriate me and Angie. It was like he was holding on to them for himself. He even said "How did you know to ask me?" Well DUH you're a CM working behind the register. Whaddya expect? So long rant short, we got the two stinking pins.
We went back out and got ready for the parade to start. A little pre parade fun was happening....
And then Mark decided to do a little dancing in the street...
Mark has one dance for any song with any tempo. It consists of sticking both index fingers in the air and pointing them about. Kind of like the "two wild and crazy guys" but on a smaller scale. I witnessed the same dance two years ago at 'Ohana to the Bare Necessities.
Here's the original Mark dance..
And here's my recreation from LAST July
But, Mark added a new move this year. The IASWA dance.
I didn't get the leg kick, but trust me, it happened Good stuff
A couple more photos before the parade started...
And then the parade started. It was nice to see the new version. I liked it
Here's my pics..
I spotted this float and pointed out the animal cruelty. They have poor old Horace tied to the float.
They should atleast put him on a line so he could run back and forth, you know, like they do with dogs.
Okay....more photos...
I remember back in 2004 Stitch was hanging out on the back of Santa's sleigh. I haven't seen him there since. He's not even in the parade
After the parade Angie, myself, Andy, and Bill and Jan's son Adam, went to try and ride POTC but it was having difficulties and had shut down for the night. On the way we had to grab some hot chocolate and cookies. It was the first time we'd actually taken advantage of that in all our party years.
That hot chocolate peeled a layer off the roof of my mouth
It was some hot stuff.... but tasty
When we got to Splash I had to get this pic...
So then we thought we'd try BTMRR but for some reason we didn't.....
The line had become outrageous....it was all wrapped around.
Oh that's right....
So then we were going to go do Stitch b/c he's a Stitch fan too, remember? But then he got distracted by the virtually empty tea cups so we did those instead.
And on our way we saw poor old Liverlips standing all by his lonesome.
He was waiting on Karen (zacksmom)
She cracked some joke back in 05 at the party that he was her boyfriend or something along those lines Anyway, he was standing so still that when I walked up to him to have my picture made I started second guessing and thought maybe he wasn't real. So I started saying that "oh wait maybe he's stuffed" and then, Liverlips reached out and poked me, scaring the poop outta me
So we did get our pic..
And then he wanted to give me a nice little kiss.... I wasn't quite so sure about it..
I have a picture of Andy doing his Liverlips impersonation a little later in the trip
So anyway, we were on the teacups before I got distracted telling the Liverlips story....
Adam and Andy thought it would be HIGHlarious if they spun the crap outta the teacup.
And halfway through, they thought it was even funnier to change direction...
Which at almost midnight, and only some corndog nuggets, some hot chocolate, and a cookie in your tummy, can make you do this...
HAHAHA, just kidding. He didn't really puke.....
Usually the ride slows down but it seemed like it just stopped and I couldn't tell, neither could Adam, that we had even stopped b/c my head was spinning so bad.
yeah, that's what happens when somebody spins it like a mad person.
Hey, it is the mad tea party
Hardy har har. We all got off walking like we'd had quite a few drinks in about a 2 minute time frame.....
After that it was time to start heading out. We said our goodnights to everyone and caught the bus back to POP. We had a very lively bus driver who was full of stupid silly jokes. I can't remember anything specific he said, but at midnight, when you've been up since 5:45am, and at work, and on a plane, and then at Disney, and now standing on a bus full of people....his jokes really weren't all that funny. I just wanted to lay down in nice comfy disney bed... and soon enough, I was
edited to add that Andy just remembered that when we got off the bus at POP there was this guy all balled over on the bench puking into a trashbag.....we think his buddy had ripped the bag outta one of the trashcans nearby. His friend wasn't even helping him at all. He was just standing there, watching him. I guess he partied a little too much, although I'm sure it wasn't at the MK

Great updates, Melissa & Andy! Sounds like you had a wonderful time at MVMCP! Andy did well with a nice surprise of diamonds!! Love the effects you got in the Tea Cups photos.....we'll have to try that.....well, maybe I'll have DH & DS try that......I'll let them spin until they puke..... Can't wait to hear more
Hi Melissa! Just got caught up with your first day update and you certainly had a very full one at that Sounds like the MVMCP was a lot of of fun and I really loved the story of Andy presenting you with the beautiful diamond earrings. He's such a sweetie. It was so nice that you got to meet up with so many PP friends and enjoy shows and rides together. I guess you didn't get to do the "Night Before Christmas" stage show in Tomorrowland. We did the first show this year to start off our party night and really enjoyed it. The ending of your update with the guy puking into the garbage bag was pretty gross!!! Between the teacups and the description of the guy puking into the bag, I was feeling a little sick just reading about it! I can't wait to read about your second day in the Parks! Enjoy your time off and Merry Christmas.

Sorry 'bout that I guess that's what 6 years of eating lunch with first graders does to you...numbs you to the gross factor
Please tell me what camera you are using. Do you have to set it to night shot or some other mode or does it automatically take those great night shots?
I have a canon but cannot get it to produce night shots like that!
I have a Canon Digital Rebel and I take almost all of my pictures on manual settings so that I can set it to take the pictures the way I want them to be. When I use the manual setting the flash isn't used. I really like to try and get the natural colors rather than blowing out the picture with a flash.

i laughed so hard at the animal cruelty!!! OMG! too funny. poor horace. my mom spent 32 years with first graders, so yeah, you are immune to the grosssness of everything!! can't wait for more!!
Just found these 3 pics. They were on the Powershot that Andy had in his backpack. We barely used it this trip, it only had 8 pictures on it... I guess I'm getting more used to my big honkin' camera But anyway, Andy said I had to post these b/c of one specific one. The first two Angie took for us and the third one Andy took while we were in line for Stitch..
