Ditching the Hubbies for Mousefest - Final Thoughts COMPLETED 3/4/08 - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great updates (and good to see you chiming in, Tiff )! MVMCP was so much fun. I do have photos, but you'll have to wait until I get to them in my TR to find out how bad (or good) they are. Glad you enjoyed the tour. Isn't that warehouse amazing?

Day 3, Part 2: Introducing Tiff to "Winter Wonderlands"
Day 3, Part 2: Introducing Tiff to "Winter Wonderlands"
After getting all refreshed, we headed to the bus stop again and waited for a bus to MGM. One arrived in short time and we were off to the movies, so to speak. After arriving, ew took some pics of the MGM Christmas tree and got out picture taken in front of it with PP.
We had an ADR for Sci-Fi Dine In Theatre, and we had a little time to play. We made our way up Hollywood Blvd and came upon the High School Musical show in front of the BAH, or Big Blue Weenie, whichever you prefer. Tiff impressed me with her singing along to the songs. Having never seen either of the movies, I don’t know if she had all the words right but I’ll give Tiff the benefit of doubt, so I truly was impressed that she knew ever single word.
After watching the HSM show, we searched out a PP guy and found one all by his lonesome. He was bored so we probably got 5-7 shots right there. This one was one of particular favorites.
After our little photo shot, we headed over to the Sci-Fi as we needed to get checked in. Oh my, the line to check-in was huge. Or maybe it was just a wave of people that were just mingling around the entrance. Whatever it was, it took us a bit to make our way through the crowd. After checking in, we were told it would be 10-15 minutes, so we walked back outside and found a ledge to park while we waited. Took a few scenery shots of the area for the scrapbook.
Now we were probably called in about 10 minutes later and were directed to the back of the “drive-in” and became hitch hikers in a car with a family of 4. We took some more pictures of the restaurant that didn’t come out all that well. <shrug> Anywho, our waiter came and got our drink orders. We both stuck with soda and ice tea as we knew what the evening had in store. After looking over the menu, we both knew what we wanted right away.
For an appetizer, I went with the 7 Bean Beef Chili while Tiff went with the Crispy Onion Rings. For our main entrée, Tiff went with the Shrimp Penne Pasta while I went with the Italian Grilled Chicken Sandwich. And the kicker, DESSERT!! I went with the Caramel Cheesecake and Tiff went the Warm Apple Crisp.
After stuffing ourselves silly and settling the bill, we made a quick bathroom stop and then went on search of my favorite booth in MGM during the holidays. Now before I go on, I have an apology to make. Back in 2005 when I came to WDW with my mom , we discovered this booth that made adult beverages in MGM. We became addicted to what we thought was called the “Winter Wonderland”. I didn’t know what was in it, but it was really good. Anyway, I went on and on about these drinks to more than one person and even made a scrapbook page from that trip in honor of the wonderful drinks. See below.
Well, to continue on with the current story, we approach the booth right outside of the Sci-Fi, near the Monster’s Inc meet and greet area. I see people walking away with fruity concoctions and beer but not the blue I was looking forward to. As we looked at the menu, I saw Winter Wonderlands listed so I got excited. I ordered round 1 for the two of us and the person handed over these pink drinks. Well, I had to ask the CM what the deal was. He let me know that those were actually Merry Margaritas and they stopped making them last year. Well, I was a little bummed but the real Winter Wonderland was quite tasty and all was soon forgotten. So…sorry for the incorrect information back in 2005. This time I remembered to take a picture of the menu with the ingredients.
Coming Up: Spectacle of Lights, Illuminations and WS at Night
Great update and pictures Dawn Glad you had a great meal at Sci-Fi (it looks delish). And sorry they changed the drink on you, but it looks like you guys are enjoying your Winter Wonderlands More please

Great updates! MVMCP sounded like a fantastic time. I so wish I would have been there to shake booty with the evil Stepsisters and you, Tiff and Karen at the Dance Party! Boogie on down, indeed.
The Yuletide Tour sounds fun. I love backstage secrets 'n stuff. I had to giggle at Tiff wanting to make sure Eric never sees those grills. I hear ya, girl - why grill when you can have someone else do it for you in a restaurant with no chance of third degree burns?
Oooh, Sci Fi food looks so. yummy. Speaking of yummy, Winter Wonderland drinks look dangerously delicious! I'm sad I missed it.
I think Winter Wonderland 2.0 sounds yummy -- but Winter Wonderland 1.0 was quite its own "Big Blue Weanie," doncha think? (It has all the earmarks of what Walt called a weanie -- it was big, colorful and drew you towards it. It didn't move, but it G.L.O.W.E.D.)
