Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: \"Who Names a Trip Report After \'Brother Bear\'?!\" Pre-trip Report
Wow! You two did so much in one morning and afternoon!
And don't worry - - I think that every mother and daugher share doofy stories! I really have a hard time letting my mom be around my friends because they just flow out of her when she has an audience!
And you always have to act on that first margarita impulse!

What a great update...contrary to your belief, your TR is quite hilarious in its own right! I am already a teller of "doofy" stories and endure many eye-ball rolls from my kids! Looking forward to more pics and entertaining updates!

Re: \
Day Three Part Two
Grazing and Cruising
When we got to Epcot, we decided to hit SE first. One of the ladies from our group had to make a phone call, so she stayed behind and agreed to meet up with us after our ride. I got a few decent pictures in SE.
This one picture came out great! Wish I knew how I did it!
When we came out of SE, Crissy had been talking to a CM who gave her enough Test Track FPs for all of us to ride twice! So that was naturally our next destination. Now DM gets sick on TT, but she agreed to ride it with us. I didn’t make her go, I promise! One reason I’m the Queen of FastPass is because I’m more than willing to ride alone and use everyone’s FPs. We loved our ride, but DM, not so much. She got a little sick. The ride photo was the most hilarious thing ever, but you’ll have to take my word for it. As much as I tease DM, I love her too much to post that shot! It looks like she was preparing herself for agonizing torture or something. We all had a good laugh about it, and I saved it on the Photopass so I could share it with the rest of my family.
We were hungry, so we saved our other set of FPs and headed to WS. DM gave me her other one to use. She was going home the next day, but wouldn’t have gone on TT again anyway! Once we got to WS, I stopped at Greece and got spanakopitta, which was good.
Spanakopitta
When we got to the U.K., DM wanted to have dinner, so we stopped for fish & chips. Everyone had the same thing, fish & chips, except me. I just shared some of DM’s fries. The dessert here is shortbread and DM gave me hers, as did Crissy and Kathy. I ate one package and saved the other two for later.
Once we were finished with dinner, it was nearing the time for our cruise so we strolled through the International Gateway over to the Yacht Club. We enjoyed looking around and I pointed out to DM the room where Erica and I had stayed in May.
We met up with the rest of the group and checked in for our cruise. DM and one of the other moms really hit it off and talked for a long time. They spent the entire time before the cruise telling each other doofy stories about their children.
This cruise was a bit of a surprise for my mom. She knew we were going on a cruise, but she didn’t know it was an Illuminations cruise until we were tied up to watch Illuminations. Although her lack of planning and research sometimes drives me crazy, it’s unbelievably easy to surprise her!
I am horrible with names and I’m embarrassed to admit I don’t remember our Captain’s name. He was a bit intimidated when we told him that we knew one another from a Disney board and were quite knowledgeable about all things Disney (i.e. huge Disney geeks ). He did tell us a few things we didn’t already know, but it was mainly about working for Disney and being a part of the College Program. I was especially interested in that info, as I am hoping that my niece Erica will do the CP.
I took a bunch of pictures, and of course I show no restraint when posting them, so here they are. Also, one or two of you posted that you enjoy looking at fireworks pictures, so that gives me carte blanche to post as many as I want. Wait, it doesn’t? Well, I already Photoshopped them and uploaded them, so it’s too late now! Mwahahaha!
We started out by sailing over to MGM.
I tried to get a shot of my beloved Tower, but it came out too dark. Then we turned around and headed to Epcot. I was able to get some shots of the Boardwalk area on the way.
Then we tied up for Illuminations. We had a spectacular view and I enjoyed Illuminations more than I ever had before!
This was another highlight of the trip for DM and me. If you met my DM today, she would regale you with doofy stories about the AKL, the tea and our Illuminations cruise! As I said earlier, she was headed home the next day, so she said goodbye to the rest of the ladies.
The MK had EMH, but DM and I decided to head back to AKL. The one complaint I had about my stay at the Yacht Club was the bus service, and not much has changed since my stay. Sandy and Amy and their DMs had driven, so they collected their car and headed back. Crissy and Kathy were headed to the MK, so they were with us at the bus stop. I decided that DM and I would catch a MK bus or a DTD bus, whichever came first. After about 15 minutes, a DTD bus came and we hopped on. Once at DTD, we hit the AKL bus stop and one arrived in two minutes. We learned that Kathy and Crissy waited 40 minutes for the MK bus, and Kathy actually went inside the YCR to complain about the wait.
