As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I'm not surprised you were hungry after Heimlich's Chew Chew Train. That smell is the only reason we go on this ride every time we go!! We were cracking up the first time, too, when we rounded the corner and the ride was over already.

DD and I went on Heimlich's Chew Chew a couple of years back it was pouring rain and we laughed the whole way on it. Soarin' is our favorite next to Screamin'. It sounds like you are having a fun time in DCA.

Sounds like you had a great time on Soarin'. Glad to hear you sat next to a Californian who could tell you what you were seeing.

Re: Two go wild and go west! THREAD 4 - UPDATED 6/4!
Sunday 23 April – part four: those people look pretty scared!
We walked through Golden State past the Grand California Hotel and Grizzly River Rapids. There was no way we were going on that, it was way too cold and the wait time was something like 100 minutes.
We walked through Redwook Creek, which looked like a lot of fun for kids. As Mark said, why couldn’t they have had something like that when I was a kid? I couldn’t agree more!
We past the water wheel by Grizzly River Rapids….
… and there were lots of plaques with interesting information about what you were seeing, which are well worth reading. Then you turn a corner and the theming is totally different.
A second later, we were faced with Paradise Pier, which is quite something!
It’s not my sort of thing when you get close up to it, but from a distance, it’s quite an impressive sight. The rides here really aren’t our thing either, so we just walked round, looking at the theming.
Oh my goodness, the Maliboomer is just horrible to look at! The looks on people’s faces as they waited to be send upwards was worth seeing. They all look terrified. We watched California Screamin’ set off as well. Considering how long those people were waiting for this ride, they didn’t look prepared for the experience!
We made our way round to Ariel’s Grotto where we were back in for lunch. Thanks to Karen who made all our Priority Seatings and yes, they are still called that over here. We had tried earlier to get an earlier slot, but were told that it was full, so I knew it would be mad here and I wasn’t disappointed. It was crazy. We checked in and had probably about a 10 minute wait, but the lobby was just mobbed and was full of little girls in Princess dresses. I wasn’t quite sure which characters we would be seeing here, as I’d heard a couple of different versions, but I guessed that we would be seeing the Princesses today and I was right.
Next: shall we dance?!

Your pictures are great. I love the one of the coaster with everyone's arms up. That is a great shot.
I can't wait to hear about your princess lunch. We are going to book a princess dinner for our trip. I hope you had a good experience. (I think it will be the first time we will ever see Ariel on legs! )

Re: Two go wild and go west! THREAD 4 - UPDATED 6/4!
Sunday 23 April – part five: shall we dance?
We were taken to our table down below and it was lovely to sit there in the shade. The weather today was a bit cold, but not as bad as yesterday and it was starting to warm up a bit by now. We settled down to make our choices and I was a bit disappointed by the menu. There wasn’t much on it for vegetarians, even those of us who eat fish. Fortunately, they had a special of salmon, so I went for that with a salad for starter as both the soups on offer were meat based. Mark went for the chicken soup, followed by the steak burger.
I couldn’t fault the food here at all, it was excellent. My salad came with peach vinaigrette and I’m not a fan of vinaigrette usually, but this stuff was good. This meal also comes with a dessert. We decided to wait until we had finished with main course, before deciding what we wanted and I still had enough room for chocolate cake with ice cream. Mark went for the peach cobbler and they even brought us candyfloss and all this for $20.99. You really can’t fault it the price.
And as for the characters, yes we did have the Princesses – Mulan, Belle, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel and her other half, Prince Eric, which was a very nice surprise, especially when he asked me to dance with him!
This was an excellent meal and one that you really should try and go to if you go to Disneyland.
Ariel’s Grotto:
Appetiser 9 9
Entrée 8½ 7½
Dessert 9½ 9
Service 8½ 9
Atmosphere 10 9½
Value for money 10 9
Average score: 9.04
When we left Ariel’s Grotto, we walked through Paradise Wharf and then back to the Hollywood area to see if the wait for Monsters Inc. was any better.
It looked smaller, but the sign still said 65 minutes and when we asked a Cast Member, we were told that was right as the queue went quite a way inside, so we had a look in the shop nearby instead and Mark found some gloves to try!
We got a couple of photos taken at the entrance to the park…
Then we walked back round to the exit through the Grand California Hotel.
We headed back to the concierge lounge to see if our room was ready. We were told that it wasn’t yet, so we settled down to wait for it.
Next: I’m not having this room!
