Live, Laugh, Love...Dream: Mother/Daughter Cruise on the Disney Dream: Debarkation Day-Updated 3/29/11 - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Were you ever able to find out what was burning in Nassau? Hopefully it wasn't a historic building or one of their major attractions. (Not that I hope it was someone's home either.) and hopefully no one was hurt.
Add me to list of those loving the self portrait on the Aquaduck.
First - Dawn, you look fantastic! Seems like the cruise is off to a wonderful start (except for the little photo credit issue). I love that you can swim right up to the bar on the Dream! I was thinking of you two when I heard about that big fire in Nassau. Glad it didn't disrupt your trip.

Thanks everyone for the great comments! I the AquaDuck picture as well and was so excited that it actually came out. While I love the waterproof cameras, you don't get the instant gratification like you do with digital.
Sorry for the lack of updates, work took over this week but I will have an update tomorrow.

That was some CRAZY fire - Senior Frogs looks like a place to eat - one day we'll go on DCL and eat there !
Senor Frogs was pretty cool but reminded me all the other theme restaurants out there. Of course, that didn't stop us from trying it out.

Thanks Sharon for the compliment! Just FYI, you don't actually swim up to the bar. You wade through ankle deep water to get to the actual bar. Kind of disappointing but didn't stop mom and I from visiting it once or twice.

We never found out exactly what was in the buildings that burned while on the ship. Afterwards, we found out that no one was injured as direct result from the fire. Here's an article about the fire.
Our Dressy Evening, I Finally See My Guys, and a $77 Bar Bill!
Our Dressy Evening, I Finally See My Guys, and a $77 Bar Bill!
We headed back to our stateroom and got in our dressy apparel looking forward to the evening ahead of us. As I was finishing up, Mom disappeared into the bathroom with a bag. I knew she was up to something. A couple minutes later she comes out and hands me a card and a bag. It was a mushy Valentine’s Day card and a paper weight that has the word DREAM in big black letters on a base that has a Walt Disney quote. Perfect beyond words for this trip and for my desk in my office. A few tears, lots of hugs, and a retouch of the make-up and we were good to go. We grabbed some shots of us on our verandah with Nassau in the background. Even at 6:45pm, there was still smoke from the fire, albeit not much. And from another angle, I got a good sunset picture.
We headed down to the Walt Disney Theatre for tonight’s show, Villains Tonight. As we were headed down the stairs to find some seats, we ran into the lady from the terminal that stared at us constantly. She gave us a very hardy “Hello there ladies!” At this point, she struck up a conversation with Mom and complimenting our apparel and such. Pay attention as she makes more than one more appearance in our trip report. I did grab a quick snapshot of her after we grabbed our seats. For some reason I knew there was going to be a story to tell. Luckily, her traveling partner was seated up closer to the stage.
Anyway, as stated, the show for this evening was Villains Tonight. Now I have heard from some fellow cruisers that this was definitely their least favorite show. I truthfully loved the pre-show entertainment of Pain and Panic from Hercules. They were right in front of us the majority of the time and were hilarious. I truthfully enjoyed the show. Yes, the jokes were corny. Yes, the storyline was a little out there. But overall, it was enjoyable. Will it be a priority to see on future cruises? Probably not. My suggestion is that if you have never seen it, take the time to see it at least once. I think my favorite parts were Yzma and Kronk from Emperor’s New Groove and Cruella DeVil. Now on with the pictures!
After the show, we made our way out of the theater and I determined that if I was ever going to wear this dress again that I was going to have to get it altered. A little too long and I almost face planter myself twice going up the stairs and stepping on it. We had some time before they opened the doors to Royal Palace (Deck 3-Midhip) for the late seating so we wandered around the Atrium for a bit. We did stop and get some pictures taken with the formal backgrounds to waste some time. Overall, none of the pictures turned out that great, but the funniest thing occurred with one of the photographers. While she was setting us up with our poses, she told my mom to put her hand her on her partner’s shoulder. Partner??? Mom and I looked at each other and busted out laughing. We explained that we were mother and daughter, and my mom added that “I wouldn’t be her type”. Thanks mom…good to know.
After we finished up, we saw that people were being allowed into the restaurant and we headed that way. I absolutely loved the uniforms the servers were wearing. Absolutely fantastic! We were lead to table 89 and were the first ones to arrive. Jose provided us with the menus and filled our water glasses. Mom ignored the food menu and went for the wine list as she knew what she wanted: Fairy Tale Cuvee Champagne. She read about it prior to the cruise and was determined to have one. I went with the same Reisling I had the night before. Our tablemates arrived and Gabor came around to get our orders about 5 minutes later.
Appetizers:
Mom: Iced Lobster and Jumbo Shrimp - white and green asparagus, micro greens, and lemon-dill dressing with horseradish cream
Me: Double Baked Spinach Souffle - coated with a three cheese cream
I have to tell you that the Spinach Souffle was sooooo good. I could have eaten another one of these in a heartbeat. My tummy is growling just thinking about it. Nom…nom…nom.
Soup/Salad Course:
Both of us: Belle’s French Onion Soup
Entrée:
Mom: Royal Palace Aged Angus Grilled Beef Tenderloin and Lobster Medallions - sauteed snow peas and marquis potatoes with a cognac reduction
Me: Grilled Farm-Raised Organic Chicken Breast Salad - romaine lettuce, herbed croutons, cherry tomatoes and a creamy parmesan dressing
Dessert:
Now we had planned to go with the Grand Marnier Souffle for mom and the peanut butter mousse for me, but Gabor advised that the chef had prepared a special dessert for Valentine’s Day that was delicious. We decided to go with Gabor’s suggestion as he stated it was chocolate and strawberry. This was the only thing we regretted in our food choices. Mom who is a lover of all things chocolate was not impressed. I found it to be a bitter tasting chocolate and just ate the strawberry part. Of course, we realized later that we could have ordered both. However, our true dessert was coming.
After we signed our bill for our drinks, mom rushed me out of the restaurant as she was determined to be somewhere. I unfortunately did not get any pictures inside the restaurant. But, my mom was on a mission and once we got out to the Atrium, I understood. I had commented earlier that I was not going to get to see Chip and Dale because they always came out while we were at dinner. Apparently, she had paid attention to the Personal Navigator and the times they would be available this evening. My mom is awesome! We got in line, which wasn’t very long, and when it was our turn, she told me to go by myself and get a picture and then we would get one of us together. I loved the fact that the boys were all decked out in the formal gear. Chip kept losing his tie. A CM finally had to come and get it back in place for him. As you can see in the pictures, it’s still a little crooked. Chip spun me around as we said good-bye, and we headed over to see Captain Mickey. We waited about 15 minutes and were one of the last people to get our picture taken with him.
After picture taking was completed, I begged mom to go up and change. I was tired of tripping over the end of it and wanted to just be comfy. Mom agreed wholeheartedly, and we headed back to the stateroom. We were headed up to check out the district and sample some of the beverages available. Mom was really looking forward to this part of the evening. We changed quickly and took the stairs up to Deck 4. Of course, all the bars were on the other end of the ship, but it was a nice night and we walked along the promenade taking it all in. We entered near Evolution but decided to head to Skyline first. We opened the doors and the place was packed. I’m not sure why but there was no place to sit so we backed our way out, and mom found the doors to Pink.
As soon as we walked in the doors, I was in awe. This place completely reminded me of Mema’s living room with the colors and décor. Mom fell in love with the place and that was before we even ordered a drink. We took some seats at the bar and took a look at the menu. I loved the menu that has the pink elephants from Dumbo. I have to find a way to recreate them for the scrapbook. We both immediately ordered the Tattinger Prestige Rose from Matthew, the bartender from England. He handed us our glasses with a strawberry cute into a heart for Valentine’s Day.
Let me be honest here if I may, I am not a huge fan of champagne. I’ll have a glass now and again but it just isn’t my favorite. Now this stuff was to die for!! Mom and I talked with Matthew about the fire in Nassau, his time on the Dream so far and how he wants to go on the Fantasy, and about the offerings besides Tattinger Prestige Rose that Pink had available. Mom took a look at the menu and decided to go with the Blue Angel which was made with grey goose vodka, contreau, blue curacao liquer, lime juice, and champagne. Matthew was impressed that mom went with this choice as it was pure alcohol. :rolf2: I went with another glass of the Prestige Rose. Just as good as the first!!
The second picture is of the lights behind the bar. Absolutely beautiful!
Mom with her Blue Angel!
After we finished up round 2, I asked Matthew for the bill. I played it off well, but I almost had a heart attack. With the tip, it was $77.63 for four drinks. Holy cow! Thank goodness for that Disney Rewards card covering our bar bill. We thanked Matthew and headed out a different door that took us into the District Lounge. We ran into Chris and Kelley (tablemates) and they invited us to join them. We sat and talked with them for a bit while listening to a guy on acoustic guitar who was very good. After about 45 minutes, mom and I excused ourselves and headed back to our stateroom for the evening.
Once we got back to the room, we got ready for bed and enjoyed our chocolate chip cookies that we ordered earlier from room service out on the verandah. We truly our verandah. Before mom destroyed the bed, I grabbed a picture of our Valentine’s Day towel animal of two swans. Day two was in the books and we had a busy day ahead of us!!!
