Meri's Dream Come True - A Birthday Celebration! - PTR updated 02/04/2014 - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sounds like you are all set to go!! The FE gifts sound great. Meri is going to be excited for her bow and arrow to go with her Merida dress!!
I think so, too! She'll be excited to wear the ensemble to dinner, no doubt! I hope she doesn't take aim at anyone.

It really is almost here! I leave Friday morning and you leave a week from Tuesday. See you bright and early a week from Thursday! Hope you get your stateroom number Monday.
I can't believe you're under a week now! Amazing! Your TR will definitely push me through the last few days until I get there! I'm so excited that I get to FINALLY see you soon!
There really is so much thought that goes into it, because you don't want to just give chintzy stuff, but you don't want to fork out serious dough... so it's kind of a balancing act. And of course, all of the stuff I want ends up being $10 per person, lol, which won't work, of course. At least not with MY budget.

I really did. I didn't get to clean out my car this afternoon like I wanted to, because it wasn't ready until 330pm, but that's ok, I'll do it tomorrow afternoon. I did get to clean my room entirely, though (and I did NOT find the dang camera), so that's something.

Me either, lol! I hope I get a decent reaction and not an, "Oh, really? Cool." I don't need an epic meltdown, lol, but I'd love to see a "WOO HOO!" or two. LOL!
* Order Outlander from the library, so I can see what the fuss is about before the movie (or is it a series?) starts up
Are we there yet???
My wife and I love the Outlander series. I have read through all the main books at least four times..maybe more. The last few less simply because when a new one comes out I usually read them from the beggining, but only read the newest one the one time through.
I have a a question. I work for the airlines and can use Perx but have never used it for a cruise. How are the discounts? Can you only buy last minute deals? We tend to buy airline tickets, so would the savings be offset by also having to buy last minute airplane tickets?

Perx is hit or miss when it comes to cruises. Last January, we got an amazing, amazing rate on a TransAtlantic cruise on Disney which was in May, so definitely not last minute. This year the rate was unimpressive for that same cruise. So it's just a matter of luck, sometimes.
I've never bought airline tickets via Perx - how is that deal? I've never even considered it before!
Officially I can fly for almost free. Realistically, if I want to get four people there and back on a schedule, we still have to buy them like anyone else. Standby is horrid since the airlines all shrunk after 9/11.

Gotcha, I didn't know if Perx offered discount airline tickets (positive space ones, lol). I've flown standby for my entire life... if you ever read any of my past trip reports, flying standby figures greatly into most of them, lol. I stress people on here out with my flights, and I spend a LOT of time in airports... but hey, it's free, or close to it, so...

Ok still no cabin assignment or camera, lol. Lots of people on my cruise FB page are complaining about not having an assignment yet, so I'm glad it's not just me. I'm trying not to check my booking every half hour, lol. (I check it hourly instead - ha)
But, this really isn't an update so much as a side story I have to tell you all, because the idea came from our last cruise!
So for Meri's birthday party, she decided she wanted a small tea party at home with about 8 of her best girlfriends. I mentally cheered because the price tag on that is practically free! Woo hoo, right? LOL! Well, I was jotting down some plans for things to do during the party, and I remembered the Alice and Princess tea parties we had on the last cruise... and I got to thinking...
I got in touch with my cousin here in town who has a friend that works for a theatre company, and I asked if her friend had any actresses who would be able / willing to dress up like Alice or Mary Poppins (or really any Disney princess) and come to Meri's party for an hour in character, and do something with the girls like teaching them how to pour tea, teaching them to curtsey, teaching them how to lay their napkin in their lap, etc etc... you know, something a little cute and special. Long story short, I'm in contact with one of the actresses, and she's going to do it! I don't know which character she will be yet - she's going to go down to the theatre and go through the costumes and see what fits and what she can make work, and then she'll let me know who she will attend as.
So then I started thinking about the little gift bags for the end... and I again thought back to our last cruise, where Meri went to the Oceaneers Club and decorated a picture frame, and then took a picture with a special friend, and then got to bring home the frame with the picture in it. So I thought that when "the character" (feels stupid to say that, but I don't know who it is yet, lol) arrives, we'll take pictures of each girl with her. Then I'll quickly upload the photos to Walgreens while she does her "thing" with the girls... and then send a friend (or mom) out to pick up the pictures. After "the character" leaves, the girls can decorate their photo frames, and then we'll put the picture of each girl in their frame, to take home as a special treat! Neat, right?
Anyway, so blame Disney for this idea. I'm not telling Meri - I'm just going to have the person show up, and she'll be just as surprised. I'll just say a special friend is coming, and leave it at that, ha!
Every time you post an update, I'm hoping you're gonna say that your camera appeared.
Anyways, great idea for Meri's tea party! I'm sure the girls will have a blast.
