Southern Fried in Mickey's World Updated 12/31 - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great idea to head to wilderness lodge to relax! And what a bonus that it got you out of the torrential rains! Dinner sounded delicious! We have yet to eat at WCC for dinner...maybe one of these days I will have to add it to the list.
There is something very magical about the Wilderness Lodge. We stayed at the WL for my husband’s first trip to Disney back in 2004 and it was such a special stay for us. The lobby is incredible. I remember walking into the lobby for the first time ever back on the 2004 trip and the lobby almost took our breathe away. Like you, our jaws dropped to the floor. We’ve only stayed there once since 2004, with our twins in a courtyard bunk bed room (cool room), but are strongly considering a stay here again for our trip in 2020.
We had breakfast there on our trip in 2016. It is so peaceful there. I have wanted to stay there since it was built! I'm hoping to make my dream come true in 2020. I am in the early stages of planning a 45th anniversary trip for DH and I.
I sent a request to your trip report page. Janet Morgan Clark

Nice timing to get out of the MK before the rains came! Glad the captain waited for you. Some nice time spent to explore the grounds of the WL and the beautiful lobby, which I love! I've stayed here twice. Nice meal at WCC but so much food. You certainly had a great server and deserved the extra tip!

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
I will never grow tired of walking into the lobby at the WL! You truly have a gift for attention to detail as I never recognized all the carved animals in the logs. Your camera really made them standout! That humidity that you experienced was really brutal those first few days. It was really hot for us but I thought your description of how moist you felt was definitely worse than what we felt on our portion of the trip! We've never eaten at The Whispering Canyon Café because I didn't know that they served anything other than the skillet. We'll definitely check that out on a future trip!!! Carmen really sounded like the perfect server.
Great pics of WL. So glad you had a great experience at Whispering Canyons.
We visited Geyser Point in spring of 2017 as we took a break from MK. It is now one of our favorite spots to visit on a nice day.
Geyser Point looked inviting, but we decided we wanted to be in the lobby when the rain hit.

The first time he did this I didn't really think anything of it and considering that I lived and still do live 30 to 40 miles north of Seattle the possibility of rain on any given day is hardly surprising or out of the ordinary. However, I quickly learned to pay attention to and whenever possible to plan my day around my uncle's weather predictions/forecasts. He was incredibly accurate, much more so than any meteorologist I've heard/seen on tv/radio, and if he said it was going to rain between five and seven pm you could count on it raining between five and seven pm. My only explanation for his weather forecasting accuracy is that he spent many years working outside doing surveying work.
Sounds like an amazing dinner and you hit the jackpot in the server lottery getting Carmen as your server. I'm adding explore Wilderness Lodge to my list of non-park things to do. I always love looking at totem poles they're amazing works of art that if you know the symbolisms/meanings behind each of the carvings tell a story.
Luke's granddad was very good at forecasting weather, too. So folks seem to be better at observing these things. I love the totems at WL and at Epcot's Canada Pavilion.

We were fortunate indeed. Hurricane Michael was definitely make his presence know. But the rain at WDW from the hurricane seemed pretty sporadic.
I am glad you found a nice shelter at WL. I love all the new areas they added with Copper Creek. We stayed in DVC rooms in January and it was amazing. We will definately be back. The whole resort is so peaceful and beautiful.
The Whispering Canyon Cafe has great food, and service. Some of the best CM interactions we have had there.
On our first trip with Stefanie back in 1997, I feel in love with Wilderness Lodge. It is truly stunning, and I do agree that it is peaceful. Now I'm hoping we can stay there again sometime soon.

Dinner was very delicious, but there was so much food. We'll probably go back sometime but not for several trips.

Our first stay at WL was in 2004, too. We were there in early June. We've tried to get DVC at WL the past two trips, but the studios seem to book up fast right now. But we'll keep trying.

I hope you get to book WL for your 45th anniversary trip.
I have added you to my TR page.

Thanks! Luke and I used to think we wanted to build a log house so this resort has always fascinated us.

We always enjoy checking out the WL resort and its grounds. Very much our style!

I love my long zoom lens as it allows me to capture things that I can't always see clearly with my eyes. The hurricane brought in such high humidity. I don't think we've felt that damp and sweaty ever. Soon it will clear out and the humidity lowers slightly
Loved all of the info from your train tour. When I saw all of your colorful photos, I immediately thought if I were Luke, I would be printing a series of pictures to hang in the train room.
Your description of the weather was wiping me out. I have decided that November - February are the only months I can tolerate in Florida. I thought traveling in June was bad, but you've convinced me that October can be worse.
You're making great use of your zoom lens. The details of the Wilderness Lodge totem poles are awesome. We enjoyed our break their last November, and I fell in love with their mercantile. I bought a black quilted jacket for the fall, that has hidden Mickey's stitched in. My kids chuckle when I wear it. The Territory Lounge was a great place to spend some time and the drinks were top notch.
I, too, am sad that the forums are coming to a close. I hope you will accept me into your Facebook group.
I always held out with FB as there is things I don't trust about them with the personal info that has been compromised. I'm only joining because of PP and that's a great reason to do it! I want to stay in contact with my PP friends!

Catching up and what??!! That guy was right on your balcony? That's crazy! And dirty towels...I'd be a little glum after all that as well.
I'm hoping at tome point Disney listens and gets some shade and shelter in Toy Story Land. I get the idea that we're supposed to be "toy-sized". But, how about some large blades of grass or a cocktail umbrella or something to keep us shaded and dry

I will definitely be adding some pages to Luke's train room scrapbook that cover this tour. He did take some great ones that would be beautiful framed. Your quilted jacket sounds so cool and cute!
I've accepted everyone who has sent a request. Have you sent one? If not let me know because I want you included.

I totally agree! I keep thinking Andy's backyard surely had trees that even toys could see. I know they would be to scale, but it's miserable back there in the heat. Cocktail umbrellas could be cool!
