An Animal Kingdom State of Being with Cam and Fam COMPLETED 9/18 - Page 107 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I was SO far behind. I had to go all the way back to camp minnie mickey.
How cool yáll got to be in the parade! What fantastic memories!
Glad your sis and fam got to visit! And such a relief your news about the wedding was well received. I know that was a weight lifted off your shoulders.
Sorry Steph lost her shoes.
I'd like to try all these places yáll eat at - but I find myself going back to the same favorites each time I'm planning.
Love your purchases!!!!!
Great pics from the Savannah!
How nice to meet up with your sister!
Great evening at Epcot!
I miss her throughout the year, so it good to see her when we are down.

She did do well on our future. Luke could see over into our computer and got tickled at me in the argyle sweater vest as we jokingly refer to our first family trip as the sweater vest trip because I wore one almost every day of that trip.

What a great day!
There is nothing better than being with family, enjoying the savannah and the amazing animals and then heading to Epcot for a lovely dinner on the patio! (with all of your new friends who didn't think you really needed to see those fireworks! )
Great pictures!! I don't know why, but I really like the picture of just a part of the Spaceship Earth!
More fun treasures on your small shopping stop!
We really had a nice, relaxing day!

I was more surprised that folks would just walk off the walkway and into a restaurants seating area to watch, but then several tables were empty in front of us so they must have figured it wouldn't matter.

When I left y'all at the Speedway, I think I took about 5 steps and caught Doug and the kids coming down the steps after riding the Speedway themselves. Talk about impeccable timing!
I absolutely the pictures from your most magical AK day of Stephanie with Chip & Dale. We have had the best encounters with them! It sounds like your room at KV is right about where ours was located back in '09! We felt like we were on an African Safari Trek every time we needed to walk over to the lobby! However, it was still one of our absolute best visits ever and Doug is just dying to stay there again!
Hopefully I can stay on top of your updates better now that I'm all caught up!
One day we ran into a guy and his son who were just exiting their villa, not to far from us, so really not much closer to the lobby. He looked at us and said, "There are folks even further away than us." We then talked about how it was the only drawback of Kidani, and one that we both didn't mind dealing with. It won't stop of from staying there again and again.

Also just wanted to let you know that your posts seem to be coming up twice. I know sometimes when PP is going slow it happens to me too, so I just go back and delete or edit the second post so it doesn't take the page longer to load.
Thanks for the heads up about the double post. That doesn't usually happen to me, though I notice it with other's posts. I haven't had any problems with my posts taking very long to load; in fact they usually pop right up.

It was probably time to lose the shoes, but she was attached to them as they fit so well and were easy for her to put on. We've gotten some replacements since getting back home and she is wearing them even more than the lost ones.

Dinner looked yummy - thanks for that food porn!
I, too, have the lens cloth. Love it! And it's hooked on my Mickey camera bag.
You could even see in the pictures that it seemed that bird was walking like an old man. Too funny!
I have hooked my lens cloth on my Kilimanjaro Safari backpack that goes to the parks with me and other short trips.

I would really enjoy that, given how much you and others here seem to talk about it. Maybe, just maybe we will look into the DVC, given that I only have 5 more years to pay off the house.
Keep the report coming darlin, Rae and I are really enjoying the photos. She was a bit upset that there were no tiger pictures tho....she loves tigers.
I'm hoping you two don't have to wait 11 years! DVC has been our absolute best investment! I'll have more tomorrow! I spent all day with my Dad and my DSis June and her family, so no time to load pictures or type up my notes.

I would have loved to have been there and suddenly recognize you. I would have shouted out your names
Nice room you have at Kidani, though sorry for trek to get there. Love the pictures, there are some great shots. Can't wait for more
June 9 will probably always rank in our top 3 most magical moments while in Disney. In fact, I can't imagine what might knock it from number one! But it could be fun to find out.

The years we're at AKLV, I'm quite content waiting for Luke and Stefanie to get up as I have such an awesome view from the balcony.

Loved the Lilly photos - I missed seeing her again it was so hot when we went on Thursday, the first trip she must have been hiding and the second opportunity...we were just done so we passed it up. So glad that I am able to see her progression though your pictures
Dinner at Sanaa sounded delicious, we loved our meal there (I tried the chicken and rib sampler as well), everything about that place was wonderful, the decor, the service, the food...we have definitely put that on the top of our every trip to do list. One of the best meals of the week.
The pictures from your balcony were wonderful, loved the ones of the giraffees and the tommies...you had some great animal interaction going on outside your room.
Glad that even with the not so perfect table and some random people getting in your way you were able to have a great view and time at the Rose & Crown, your meal sounded really good, glad everyone enjoyed.
Sorry you all missed Lilly! for a great dinner at Sanaa! We'll be headed back every year as one of my picks.

Such a great family you have (it's amazing how much Stefanie and Luke look like each other when they grin.)
Sorry that school is starting so early for you (I don't go back for another 21 days, but who's counting, right?!)
Looking forward to reading more about all your great adventures and fun!
We start school early because we often miss quite a few days for snow, but if we were to have a mild winter we'd be out by mid-May. I've got my fingers crossed for a mild winter.

We used to only go to a few restaurants, but folks here have help us expand our list of favorites!
I love both RFC and R&C (the potato leek soup is to DIE for). Love the photos - and can't believe the cluelessness of people who would stand right in front of someone for a fireworks show (especially the one on the phone). I was appalled on our last trip to MK when a couple walked up and stood right in front of Meri (when another open space was available three feet to the right). Clueless.

We're trying R&C for the first time this trip. I really want to try the fish & chips! But, I think we're eating way too early for Illuminations. We'd have to sit there for about 3 hours

Clueless is the best word for these kind of folks. Totally oblivious that there are other folks around them.

I don't even think I can eat that slow, and I do eat slowly. My mother use to have the kitchen pretty much back in order before I was done.
A Fact about Our Walk to Our Room: On the way back to the room the evening of June 11, Luke and I both counted our steps. He walked 409 steps from the door leading out to the bus stop and I took 511 steps. Suffice it to say, we had a bit of a walk.
Sunday, June 12 Part 1
I woke up at 7:30 and piled the laptop, camera, iPhone, notebook, pen and Nook on my side of the bed. I then caught up on Facebook, synced my iPhone, downloaded yesterday’s pictures, and wrote up some of yesterday’s notes. Multitasking at its finest!
By a little after 9:00, I was bored of being indoors, so I took my notebook outside to the balcony and finished most of my notes until Luke pecked on the door to let me know he was up. Stefanie was up, too, and decided we should start with the pool. They are now in the water and I’m basking in a lounge chair.
The zero entry allows Stefanie to gradually get used to the water.
Miss Cool with her Dad’s Oakley’s on!
I did eventually get in as it was a very hot day and being in the water made it so much cooler.
At some point Luke decided to give the water slide a try while Stefanie and I watched for him to come sliding down.
I waited with the camera in hand and then all I managed to capture were his feet in the air as he slid into the water. :rolf:
After a cooling dip, I wandered around the pool area taking some pictures.
Luke had asked when I was heading off to photograph the are that be sure and get this next picture.
When I got back, Luke was trying to get Stefanie to jump into the pool and he would catch her.
We headed back to the room by 12:30 to clean up for evening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. By 1:25 we were ready for new adventures. Finally, we arrived at DHS around 2:00, stopping once at Hollywood Boulevard for a PhotoPass picture, before marching off to Jabba’s for some Star Wars Weekend souvenirs.
We really like the temporary building just behind Rock ‘n Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror as it was nicely air conditioned and had plenty of room for shoppers and lookers to move around. We took our time browsing all the wares before choosing these items: 2011 SWW tees for both Cam and Stefanie (we have one for each year we’ve attended), 2011 SWW glass (these first three items were 50% as this was the very last day of SWW), a Yoda – You must be this tall to ride figure, 2 Yoda Passport pins (which had just been discovered as just moments before they had told people they were sold out), a Luke Skywalker Passport pin, and the Return of the Mouse print. Checking out was not difficult as Disney had quite a few registers set up. We had everything, but the pins delivered to Kidani the next day.
As we came out of Jabba’s, we realized what a cool view we had of ToT, so Luke got a few photos.
Then it was back down Sunset Boulevard, stopping for a PhotoPass picture with Tower of Terror in the background.
We stopped in Villains in Vogue as we usually find some neat Jack Skellington items in there. We found the perfect t-shirt for my nephew, an I can be a real Nightmare Jack Skellington tee.

too funny.. as I did this once at my stay at POFQ, though I had a room that was in the corner of building one , it was only 100 steps to the food court.and that was nice, but I have had rooms at CBR that were a 15 minute walk, So I feel for you all having that long walk to your room, I alway think some day there will be peoplemover walkways to get us there like in airports.
