A Baltic boating adventure TRIP REPORT COMPLETED 11/19 - Page 105 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I think the HOHO bus was the way to go and glad Mark was able to get you seats on top! Some nice views of the city, but too bad with the dreariness of the weather. There are so many bikes and reminds me when I was in Amsterdam.

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
Glad Mark was able to grab the front seat for you. Despite the rain, you got some good pictures. That's definitely not The Little Mermaid statue as she sits in the water and is a little more modest as well.
No, we did see the real thing later on, and you are so right - definitely more modest than that one!

Smart move to wait for the next bus and Mark in getting to the top so quickly! Copenhagen is just not showing you all any love with the rain and now traffic

No it wasn't, but despite that, I really liked the city and would definitely go back.

Great job Mark on scoring the front seat on the top! There is just no better way to do a bus tour. Although, no rain would be better.

I agree that they bus was the way to go to see a lot of the city. And definitely a smart choice to wait for the next bus to get up top. That is a crazy amount of bikes! I totally agree that I would never ride a bike in London. When I was there I couldn't believe the people who take their lives in their hands riding a bike around the city.

I think anyone who does is completely nuts... I haven't ridden a bike in many years now, but I'd be more tempted to try it again somewhere like Copenhagen or Amsterdam.
Thursday 16 June – part three: we’re just sitting in traffic jams!
We soon saw the Radhus, or city hall….
… then we crawled our way along a ridiculous route, which culminates in the buses having to do a three point turn just behind the city hall. Even better, we had a taxi just sitting there, which made things even harder for our driver…
We decided enough was enough and we’d tour the city on foot, rather than being stuck in traffic jams, so we jumped off at the next stop.
We made our way towards the front of the Radhus, which is a magnificent building. It was opened in 1905, so as our commentary said, it was a relatively late addition to the city, but my goodness, it was a good one. It was designed by a Danish architect, but he took his inspiration from both Italian buildings and Danish medieval architecture. Our audio guide had recommended going to the top of the tower, but I didn’t think so, especially given it’s 298 steps to get up there.
As we stood there, getting some shots, we were literally dive bombed by an incoming flock of pigeons, the likes of which I’ve never seen before, and I’ve seen many hundreds in Trafalgar Square over the years. They were zooming down to play their part in this wedding. I’m sure it made for some unique photos, but I’m not sure it was what the bride and groom wanted.
We got some more photos around the square, including of the fountain, which looked like it included a cow or bull in quite a harrowing state.
We crossed the road towards the Tivoli Gardens. Now, as far as I knew, admission was free. That’s what I’d always understood, then you paid for your rides. Well, I shouldn’t have relied on that, and should have carried out some more thorough research, because it quickly became apparent it was paid for, as there were no entrances to be found anywhere. We saw loads of buses queued up and assumed that must be the entrance, but it was the exit.
Now here is where I wished I’d just trusted Google Maps, but we didn’t. We kept walking, and found an entrance, but it was only for annual pass holders. It pointed both ways for other entrances, so we kept going around the gardens and must’ve got around half of the property before we found an entrance. We paid our entrance fee, which was around $28 for the two of us. I have no idea if rides were included in that or not, as we had no interest in those. I just wanted to see these gardens that had helped to inspire Walt all those years ago, and I had heard a lot about them in my last job. We had been looking to bring an amusement park back to life, and Tivoli Gardens was always given as the example of how it could work.
Tivoli originally opened all the way back in 1843 and back then, it only had two attractions. One was a carousel pulled by horses, and the other was a roller coaster. Can you imagine opening an amusement park today with just two attractions? My goodness, there’d be an outcry, and you’d be lucky to escape in one piece.
Although it’s located in the heart of Copenhagen, and you will see that as we go round with the photos, because you’ll spot landmarks from outside the park in some of the shots. It has around a thousand trees, and something like 400,000 flowers during the summer. I think one, or maybe more, of those affected me, as towards the end of our visit, I couldn’t stop coughing. I took a Piriton (anti-histamine) and a few minutes later, I was fine again, thank goodness.
As soon as you enter the park, you can immediately see that this was a place that Walt would’ve walked into and drawn inspiration from. You’re immediately immersed into the theme of whatever part of the park you’re in.

The theory of the HOHO buses is great, especially with their lines of "every 20 minutes there will be another bus." But there's always traffic!!
Tivoli looks great so far, can't wait to see what else is in there!
