As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Hope whoever had to be airlifted off the ship is alright! The pictures aren't too bad coming into port. I will admit I have never seen wind turbines in the water before.
We've got lots of wind turbines in the water over here. We have some off our UK coast - I used to work near them and could see them on a clear day.
That was very odd with the oompah band and I think they were definitely stalking you and Mark! So much drama with the helicopter, but most likely it was very serious with an airlift. Nice photos coming into Copenhagen, but too bad for the murky weather.

It was interesting to see the wind turbines out in the water. In the murky weather you almost couldn't see them! I wonder if they had warning lights on them so ships don't plow right into them on foggy days? Your shots of Copenhagen are very good considering the weather!

I don't think they do, but then again, with radar today, that's probably all they need...

Thursday 16 June – part two: yay, we got the front seats!
We stood on the balcony for ages, fascinated by all the arrangements being put in place, although this did look like there weren’t many facilities here…
As I continued to watch, I saw passengers walking below us, and realised that the all ashore had been given. Sure enough, a moment later, the announcement came that we could head ashore, and we made our way down to deck 3. Thankfully, the line was very short, and we were off the ship in literally a couple of minutes…
We’d already seen a City Sightseeing bus, and are familiar with them from other cities, so they’re a well known brand to us, and while I knew a ticket with them wouldn’t be cheap, as it’s for 72 hours, I figured it would be the best way to go. We did think about getting the shuttle bus into town, but that was $18/person, and it only ran once every 20-30 minutes, which we didn’t think was great. We figured we’d rather pay the extra for City Sightseeing.
When we got there, it was pretty clear to us that the bus was full, so we decided to wait, along with another couple. As they said, if you can’t get up top, what’s the point and I was with her on that.
This is what happened when the previous bus left! We had to be careful to keep out of the way and avoid being knocked over.
When it arrived, Mark made a mad dash for it, and he was one of the first on the top deck, so we got one of the front seats, thank goodness. If we hadn’t have done, I doubt there would’ve been any photos, given the side windows were covered with rain and were rapidly getting misted up.
Once we left, I think our bus was pretty full, and it was still raining a bit outside. I did my best to get some photos as we went along…
We were intrigued by these statues, although I didn’t think this was the Little Mermaid statue. The couple opposite us were convinced it was…
This is the first palace we came to, the Rosenberg Slot, which contains thousands of Royal objects, including paintings, furniture and a small armoury. However, what most visitors come here for is to see the Danish collection of crown jewels. As you’ll remember, I was debating which palaces to see. Well, you’ll have to wait and see what happens, but we certainly didn’t visit this one…
Before long, we came across this, which our audio guide told us was Norreport, a subway and train station, and one of the city’s biggest. It means North Port…
Personally, I couldn’t get over the number of bicycles we saw everywhere here. I knew Copenhagen is renowned as an easy city to either walk or cycle around, but even so. Our audio guide told us there are two bikes for every one person in the city.
We carried on making our way through the city centre, although our progress became slower and slower, as we seemed to hit traffic everywhere we went, which was very frustrating, given we only had limited time in port.
I would have waited to get a top view on the HOHO bus as well! Great views of the city! I think it's cool about the bikes! Wat a healthy way to get around!!

It is, but I think it only works in certain cities. I'd be way too terrified to take to a bike in London for example.
Too bad about all the rain so far. We did walk from the dock through the city, past all the palaces, and into Tivoli Gardens. But we took a cab back. It would be an easy place to bike.

I'm not surprised you took a cab back - that was a heck of a long walk!
Glad Mark was able to grab the front seat for you. Despite the rain, you got some good pictures. That's definitely not The Little Mermaid statue as she sits in the water and is a little more modest as well.
