For the plans they are a changin’ TR - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Glad to see your day ended on a higher note than earlier!
Sounds like everyone at MM headed for TSL!
Your dinner looked great! Love HBD!!!
If we hadn’t done the AP early morning TSL, that’s probably where we would have been as well, but I’m glad it worked out the way it did!

We really enjoyed HBD! Both the food and the atamosphere were superb!
After the two long, busy days we'd had it felt good to sleep in until 7:00 this morning. An aside here…most of the time when we were in the room we enjoyed having the TV on the WDW information channel and just listening to the music.
We had breakfast ADRs for 8:30 at Boma so we headed out around 8:15 to walk over to Jambo. We got to the check-in desk just in time! We were seated in an awesome spot, right near the buffet, and had a delicious breakfast! I love the buffet allergy guide they give you now! It’s very helpful for choosing GF items from the buffet. In addition to the buffet items I also ordered a couple GF Mickey waffles which were delish!
Jeff’s first plate:
My first plate:
And after that I lost track!
After breakfast we walked outside to view the savanna, but there weren’t many animals outside.
Then we walked back to Kidani. We got some photos of the lobby and then out to the savanna there.
Then back to our room for some photos of our savanna.
The toast Jeff made - That would be something my husband would say.
I wanted to compliment the skirt you wore the day before. So cute!
Breakfast looked delicious! Love all the animal photos!
Nice breakfast at Boma and some great photos on an active morning from the savanna!

Looking at your photos I feel I'm right back on our vacation. Love all your animal photos and neat ones at Kidani, too. We don't do breakfast often, especially buffets, as we don't either eat much for breakfast, but Boma has one of the best and we like to do it when we stay there on our going home day.
Donna, I am a fan of your TR's. You always teach me something new. Your photos are fabulous, especially the ones in TSL and an empty Epcot. Great PP photos. I like the country effects and the balloon with Mickey's hand.
Sorry, but I cracked up with when you experienced the rat. My first thought was "It all started with a mouse." Imagine if Walt had a mouse scuttle past him?! I saw many mice in the subways of NYC, but would have been disappointed to see them in the VIP section of Epcot.
I feel for you and effects of the heat and humidity. I am a great fan of frog togs and misting fans, too.

Thanks Mayra! It is actually a skort. I have 4 or 5 of them - they are so comfortable!

The savanna was certainly a different resort experience for us! I loved seeing all the animals and talking with the CMs.
Nice idea to do the Boma breakfast on your departure day.

The plan for today was Disney Springs for some browsing around. I wanted to pick up a small gift for my dad and my brother to thank them for the rides to and from the airport. And we also wanted to stop in to the photo pass studio for a little photo shoot. We were planning on having lunch there as well.
We headed out around 10:00. When we arrived we were especially pleased with the lack of crowds!
We walked around a bit and when we got down near World of Disney we sat at an umbrella table for a rest. Then we went into WoD to browse around. We ended up getting a mug for my brother and 2 bags of candy (toffee crunch and chocolate covered almonds) for my Dad. As we were checking out we asked about having it sent to the resort and the CM said they don’t like to send chocolate when it’s this hot out because they can’t guarantee it will be out of the heat during the shipping process. OK, so now we had the same problem. We ended up wrapping it in a towel that we’d brought along to insulate our ice water, so that helped. Then we made lots of short cuts through shops to stay in the AC. We got to the PP studio and had our photo shoot with a great CM who took her time and posed us in a 4 or 5 different positions. Though when we looked at the photos after, we found she had only put one background with each pose. When we’d had this done in the past they used each pose several times, putting different backgrounds with it. But, no matter, it was fun.
I guess we were supposed to look scared here.
Jeff running and me looking scared…
I’ll take one of these!
Love this at the entrance to Kidani…
At this point we decided to head back to the resort and have lunch in the room instead of finding a place at DS. Another change of plans, but best for the chocolate in our bag! So we made our way to the bus stop and a bus was along very soon. We had lunch in the room and then relaxed. Jeff was not feeling well. He hadn’t slept well last night and that coupled with the heat and a sinus headache, he needed some sleep. While he slept I read, played some games on my iPad and took some photos of the animals.
The Red River Hogs making their way to their enclosure…
We noticed this guy had a burr on one of his horns.
At 4:15 it started to pour. But by 4:50 it was done. We left for Epcot at 5:15, and a bus arrived just as we got to the bus stop. When we got in the park we stopped for a PP picture, and then noticed there was no line for SSE so we rode that first. Then we headed for WS and Frozen Ever After to use our FP.
Another rat photo for my collection!
Frozen Ever After
After our ride we made our way through the masses, visiting a few gift shops to absorb the AC and avoid the crowds. We had just enough time before our dinner ADR to stop in Canada to see O Canada. There was an obnoxious group of guys in the waiting area, so as we headed into the theater, we made sure we were not anywhere near them. We did hear them a couple times during the show. And the CM kept circling the perimeter of the theater, I guess to keep an eye on them. And then once the song started they left.
After that we made our way to UK.
We browsed in the gift shop and Jeff bought a Rose and Crown pint glass. At 7:45 we checked in to Rose and Crown, and were seated at a patio table before 8:00. Hollie was our server. She was very pleasant and outgoing.
For drinks Jeff ordered lemonade and I had a glass of Riesling. For dinner Jeff had baked fish and chips and since I enjoyed the chicken masala curry so much on Tuesday, I ordered that for dinner.
During dinner we kept hearing drums and we thought it was the Matsuriza drummers in Japan. But when it continued on for quite a while (and got pretty annoying) we were stumped. Then I remembered the Eat to the Beat concerts that started every night at 8:00. Of course that’s what we were hearing! And then I remembered that on the 24th we had ADRs at Spice Road Table at 8:00. There was no way we were going to enjoy dinner being so close to the American Gardens Theater. : We decided when we got back to the room, we’d check Boma to see if they had any availability for dinner on the 24th and cancel Spice Road Table.
We had a nice view of Illuminations as we were finishing dinner. And then we ordered a lemon scone with berry sauce for dessert.
We headed to the exit about 9:30 or so, and didn’t have too long to wait for a bus. When we got back to Kidani, Jeff counted paces from the elevator to the room…it was over 400! He calculated it was about ¼ mile.
When we got back, we cancelled Spice Road Table and made an ADR for Boma. It will be nice to have a “stay at home” evening.
Also, we so enjoyed this relaxing day that at one point we decided to change our plans for the 22nd. We had Epcot planned for that morning, but we decided a better plan was to hang around the resort.
The weather today was – Hot and humid with a rainstorm in the afternoon
The best thing today was – breakfast at Boma
The worst thing was – obnoxious bunch at O Canada
The funniest thing today was – trying to keep our candy purchases cool!
Today we tried – Disney Springs during the daytime
And the result was – it was much less crowded
The most magical moment today was - Finishing dinner while watching Illuminations
Wow, how lovely to have Disney Springs to yourself like that. Those Photopass pics are fun, but I think I preferred the backgrounds we both got in January. They must change them all the time...
Great dinner at the Rose and Crown. I didn't realise the Eat to the Beat concerts would have that much of an impact all that way around the World Showcase. Sounds like a good plan to axe Spice Road Table, good as it is.
My goodness, that is quite the hike to your room from the lobby!
Quite a nice day you had beginning in the Springs, but too bad Jeff wasn't feeling 100%. I'm sure the nap was a big help! Glad the bunch of irritating guys left the theater as you don't want that to spoil the show! Nice dinner at R&C, but too bad the noise from the concert was a bit much. Nice view for Illuminations. That's quite a hike from the elevator to your room. I think when I stayed at Jambo House in 2004, I had a walk like that as my room was near the end of the hallway. Seems that's pretty much the case with everyone here who stays there or KV.
