Merry, Magical, and Bright: Late Fall Adventures of Cam & Luke Updated 3/12 - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! Love the gray shirt w/ the crystal snowflakes! You could wear that all winter rather than just til Christmas. Liked the red jacket w/ the fleecy hood, too.
Side-topic: have you seen the Groot Chia pet? I've seen the TV commercial several times. It's so cute!!!
I haven't seen the Groot Chia pet.

I've never ridden RNRC because of the upside down parts. Once would have me very sick. After3 times, I'm be done for a week.
Hope you’re both feeling better by now!
I was looking forward to Coco before our trip to WDW in November but then when we saw the extended preview I was more excited. I’ll just say the movie does not disappoint - it was WONDERFUL! Hope you’re able to see it in the theaters.
I hope you're both feeling better soon! I love all of the pictures of the Christmas merchandise! I'm taking my very first Christmas-time trip to WDW tomorrow, and I can't wait!

I'm thinking we might still get a chance to see Coco next week. My fingers are crossed.

Oh my lord with the GOTG Chia Pet! Some people like these but so tacky and one of the worst gifts you can receive for Christmas! Too funny with this!
Over the years, we've all heard the things about the worst Christmas gifts you can receive and the Chia Pet is always near the top. The funny part was that you could always find these in ample supply in your local Kmart or Walmart! The other gift and at the top is the horrible fruit cake. I'm not talking about the homemade one with fresh ingredients, which can be quite good but the prepackaged garbage dependent on preservatives. As bad as food (if you want to call it that?) can get! Just so gross and will last through many nuclear wars!
Seriously, do not read the ingredients or nutritional info for one of these door blocks as it is the only use for this crap and not made for human consumption!

Hope you both are feeling better. I am loving your trip report and all the great pictures. Looks like Luke enjoyed his ride on Rock 'n Roller Coaster. That is a great ride photo! Hope you get to see Coco. It really was a cute and touching movie.

We're playing on seeing Coco on Christmas Eve now. We've done a movie as a part of our Christmas Eve since 1983. I think this will be a great one for that day.

I'm much less congested though my body is still a bit achy. I am better though. Luke has gotten much more congested, but hopefully, he is going to start feeling better, too.
So much amazing Christmas merchandise. I love all the scale models of upcoming attractions at WDW. Groot is too cute.
Hope you and Luke are feeling better now that you are on antibiotics.
Before we went, I was wondering just how Walt Disney Presents would compare with One Man's Dream. After seeing it myself, I really did like it all, especially the scale models.

This crud we both have is really struggling to hang on. We'll feel better for a while and then miserable for a while. At least we're still on the antibiotic.
Day 2 Part 4 – Monday, November 6 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Health Recap: Both Luke and I are still not 100% yet, but we are feeling better so that is progress. We enjoyed a huge family gathering with the Matthews on Saturday, which led to a very lazy Sunday as we were both exhausted after a full day with family.
Back to Studios: From Walt Disney Presents, we headed to Star Wars Launch Bay with a plan to visit both Chewbacca and BB-8. Chewie’s wait time was posted at 20 minutes, and that was precisely what we waited. I got my Porg out when we neared the front of the line. Soon the large doors were moving back and we were entering a hallway to await our meet and greet. Chewie immediately saw Porg as I came around the corner, motioning me to come over so he could get a closer look at the little critter. Porg and I got a big ‘ole furry hug. Stefanie was the pro at character interaction, but Luke and I still like meeting the characters. It seems to help me if I have a prop. So much fun!
From our visit with Chewie, we entered the queue to meet BB-8. I didn’t note how long it took, but I think it was only around 10 minutes. Definitely, a faster line than Chewbacca’s. That is probably because interaction is less with the sweet little droid. I do love that he responses with beeps and whistle to everything we say.
At this point, we both wanted a snack as lunch had been early. We decided to try out ABC Commissary where we could sit in fairly comfortable chairs and give our feet and backs a break. There is also an AP discount here which was a bonus. We did sidetracked for just a moment when we saw a PhotoPass photographer in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater. Unfortunately, these are some of my least favorite photos of the trip. The fisheye lens looks cool for abstract objects, but not so much for people. I’m only sharing the least offensive ones as Luke did not appreciate having a teeny tiny head and a large, large body.
We didn’t want much. I got an Olaf cupcake, but as I usually do, I scrapped off most of the icing and just ate the cake. Luke had a strawberry parfait that he really enjoyed. We also got one large and one regular size Coke. We easily found a table since it was 2:22 in the afternoon, and took our time eating our treats and drinking our cokes.
Afterwards, we backtracked to where we had seen Chip and Dale earlier in the day; one of my must dos for this trip was meeting my chipmunk pals. The queue was snaking back around a flowerbed, but I was confused because the two girls in front of us were sitting on the wall and lagging way behind when others moved. They seemed to be with a gentleman and a lady who was on a scooter. It was so bad that at one point a mother and daughter broke line, though I’m positive they never realized the line went back further. The couple with the scooter were so oblivious as they were both on their phones they didn’t even see what had happened. At this point I asked to the two girls if they were in line, and they said they were but didn’t want to crowd the couple. Just as I was about to say something to the out of touch couple, she moved way forward, filling in the gap. But then when they were next in line, she shooed the two girls ahead to meet Chip and Dale. At this point, I heard the lady say they were holding a place in line for someone who wasn’t even there. They hadn’t arrived when the two girls moved on, so Luke and I got to go next.
This time was one of our absolute best interactions with Chip and Dale as I told them that we saw their cousin yesterday in Tennessee (remember so many updates ago when I saw the chipmunk at the rest stop). I mimed how the little chipmunk ran very fast and they imitated the running chipmunk. Then we got lots of hugs and photos. Just before we left, Luke told them I had a pal in my backpack. Immediately, they wanted to see who was with me. They grabbed Porg right out of the bag and motion to the PhotoPass photographer to take their photo with him. They loved my new furry friend.
Just a little complaining here. Disney PhotoPass and Flickr are adding unnecessary obstacles to my trip report writing. PhotoPass downloads my unedited photos even though I click on the ones that I’ve already edited, meaning I have to go back in and download photos a second time and a few times add the borders back in. For example, the Star Lord and Groot photos were suppose to have a Guardians of the Galaxy border, but I just didn’t have the stamina to redo those when I noticed as I inserted photos into the report. I have sense work on those photos again and have the ones with borders downloaded, but I’m not reposting them here. Today I realized that some of the Chip and Dale photos were missing, so I edited those and downloaded to my computer. Again, the edits were missing. Back to PhotoPass and do the work over. Then as I was writing, I note that I don’t have photos for the next character meet and greet. Back to PhotoPass to edit and download. Thankfully, the edits were there this time. In looking ahead to what would be included in the next update, I realized that I misplaced when Luke did Rock ‘n Roller Coaster. The problem now is flickr.com where the photos uploaded out of sequence. When they came up in the middle of our shopping, I thought I had figured out that Luke rode while I shopped. Nope, he was with me the whole time. I should have just asked him. I’ll get to the correct order in the next update, but you’ve already seen the photos. Maybe now that I’m feeling some better, I can get patiently get the photos in where they belong and deal with PhotoPass.
Anyway, on to our last character meet and greet of the day, Olaf. The standby time was posted as 30 minutes, but in reality we were meeting our Frozen friend in 10 minutes. Unfortunately, the character interaction was even more brief. Oh well!
Great day at Studios but with a few obstacles and especially with the photos! With Flikr and since the photos came from Disney's Photopass you should be able to get the photos into order by renumbering on your own as that is how they are sequenced. You camera numbers the photos but through DPP, not sure how they do this by numbering. That was odd with the line as some people are so oblivious with what is going on around them. Glad you enjoyed Launch Pay with the photo ops as it's a great place. I enjoyed it there last year, but couldn't fit it in back in October as I love the Star Wars films and need to catch up on some of these over the last few years!
