Feelin’ Groovy: A Cam and Luke TR Completed 7/31 - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I think maybe they have good and bad days for the food at Skippers. We ate there in February and I had the same bowl as Luke did and I found it spicy and delicious. My husband had the pork and it wasn't tough, but tender and yummy. My daughter helped clean his plate of the rice and broccoli too. I'm sorry you didn't really care for the food.
I can't wait to eat there again when we go back in July.
Luke has to have food very hot to consider it spicy so that might have been his issue with the noodle bowl. I would never consider the pork I had tender as I had to saw through it with the sharp knife. So maybe it was an off night, except two weeks earlier a friend had the same situation with pork.

Gosh you guys certainly got a lot done today! More great purchases! Sorry Skipper Canteen was lacking in the flavor department. More great purchases! Love the pictures!!
We may have gotten too much done this day as we wore Luke out.

I'm gonna guess the picture is a transition from Frontierland to Liberty Square. Just judging by the roof tops on the 2 sides which are just visible.
Love the hearse that Luke bought, should go really nicely with his train display
Very good guess!

Nice to read your review of Skipper Canteen. The current menu doesn't appeal to us, so it wasn't on our to do list for our next visit-but the decor is just beautiful.
I usually love pork, but I do like it a bit more tender.
Love the VB bag! We went to Uptown Jewelers and Terry asked if I wanted a new bag, (he owed me an Anniversary present), but I chose a new watch instead!!
Ya'll got a lot done in one day!!
A Disney watch is also very cool!

We were not originally sure about the menu ourselves but decided to try it any way.

You really had a busy day, sounds like you were grooving right along!
I think heading to Disney to figure out all the mystery photos coming up is an excellent idea. We may have been a little too groovy for our own good.

I absolutely love reading all your TRs!!! We only get to go every 2-3 years, so hearing all of your tiny details is wonderful!!! It is just like reading a Disney Book! We leave for our next Disney trip in 9 days. I take lots of notes for my scrapbook, but have never gathered enough nerve to write a public trip report. Thanks soooo much for sharing!!!
~kim
9 days is hardly any time at all! I started the TR writing because Stefanie always enjoyed looking at the photos in others' TRs. Now that she is gone, I'm so glad I've written them as they help me relive some wonderful memories.

You are one groovy lady as it is definitely in the Magic Kingdom.
The person that said near "Town Hall" is also correct. It is just that this Town Hall is in Frontierland not on Main Street. The laundry door is on the right side of Town Hall near the entrance of Pecos Bill's.
I'm finally all caught up!! I love your bag! I've had my eye on that one for awhile now. I am bummed we didn't find time to meet. My trip flew by, but I know one day our paths will cross again. We also looked at booking Skipper Canteen when we were down there and the menu just didn't appeal to us. I can't wait to read you're review on Morimoto! We sat upstairs in May and it was such a neat experience, beautiful environment and of course wonderful food!
You certainly had a busy first day! Love the pictures you got on BTMRR. I haven't done the Swiss Family Treehouse since I was little, but I love your Castle picture, so I might have to make the journey to get that Castle view. I'm sorry you weren't impressed with Skipper Canteen. Love your new Vera Bradley bag!!
All caught up! I love your new bag... this certainly seems like it's going to be a slower paced trip for Luke but the man doesn't seem to WANT to slow down! lol
Can't wait to read more! Oh, and I love the game! I had no idea where the pic was taken! I need to pay more attention to Disney detail apparently, although when I'm down there you do have me looking at light fixtures that I NEVER used to!

Oops on my part! I guess I didn't notice the second Town Hall in that area. So we have three folks right now!

Maybe we will have overlapping trips again in the future. It isn't as easy as it seems to coordinate meets.

We do the Swiss Family Treehouse about every 4th or 5th trip as we love the views from up there.

Luke's willingness to slow down will begin with Day 3, and I was more than willing to comply. I didn't take as many light fixture photos this trip, but that might be because I've already gotten so many places. It never hurts to look up at WDW.

NEXT: A Groovy Spot on the Lawn Day #2 – Monday, May 9, 2016 Part 3
Before heading back up Main Street, Luke and I went next door to Uptown Jewelers to the theater to check out the art. Luke asked me if I had ever seen the item on the floor in the photo below. I had not, but after studying it for a bit, I told him it was probably part of the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom interactive game, which we have never played. I’m sure some of you recognized the medallion in the carpet immediately.
Having browsed the art for a short while, we now leisurely walked back to Fantasyland for our final FastPass+, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Up until now, we have always ridden in the very front or the very back. This would be our first time ever ride in the middle. It was still fun, but we prefer the other two options as it seems to be a little more exciting, or should I say groovy, from the front or rear. I again strapped my camera around my neck in order to take random photos in hopes of getting enough good ones for a scrapbook layout. Ginger made the cutest SDMT border for the swap, and I really wanted to use it on this album.
Now the sky in this one makes it rather groovy.
After our visit with the dwarfs, we walked passed Pooh. Even though I have another border from the swap for it, we did not feel like waiting standby because the queue was packed. I remember we thought the wait time was ridiculous, but I failed to record it at the time so I have no memory of how exactly what the wait time was. From Pooh, I immediately noticed the Mad Tea Party, and mentioned to Luke that I wanted photos here, yet again for a border swap scrapbook layout. This attraction really looks groovy at twilight. As we got closer, Luke realized there was no line and asked to ride. I just didn’t want to spin as that makes me sick and photography hard. Here are the results of our ride.
From the Mad Tea Party, we moved on to another relaxingly groovy ride. We were now in Tomorrowland, and the People Mover seemed an excellent choice to keep our touring easy for Luke.
When we returned to ground level, Luke said he was going to Tomorrowland Terrace to sit until our 9:00 PM Wishes Fireworks Dessert Party. If we had not already paid for this, I think we would have been headed back to the room. If my memory serves me right, we had about 45 minutes at this point to wait. Folks who had made the advanced bookings were already lined up to get in. We just talked and relaxed while biding our time. Exactly at 9:00 PM we joined the much shortened line, and were soon inside. We were told we could pick anywhere to sit, so we found a small table near the front of the upper level. Then I retrieved two sparkling apple ciders from one table and brought those to Luke. Next I filled two plates, one for each of us, at the spread on the upper level where our table was, and got those to Luke back at the table. From there I had to go down to the lower level for additional drinks. Before I checked out the drink offerings, I perused the buffet on the lower level, and except for some fresh fruits and cheeses, it was identical to the upper level. We were permitted to get food from any of the stations. The line on the lower level was long, so I moved on to the drink stations. Luke really wanted a coke, but carbonated beverages are not offered at the party. Instead I got a lemonade and a fruit punch, giving Luke the option of which he wanted. He chose the fruit punch, telling me he thought it was pineapple/berry mix. My favorite of the miniature desserts I had chosen was the rice crispy treat. Neither of us felt like seconds.
We had been told when we entered that someone would come around to each table and inform us about how to get to the special viewing area in the Hub. Unfortunately, the CM doing this little task talked to every table, but ours. So I asked the folks at the table closest to us what information the CM had passed along. They let me know that whenever we were ready, just to go back to the booth at the entrance and a CM would escort us to the designated area. It was just a few minutes before the castle show was to start, so Luke felt we should go on. A very sweet and groovy young man escorted us to the gated, grassy area in the Hub, letting us know along the way that there had not been many folks sign up for the same day ressie, so we could sit down, lay down, or stand – whatever suited us. You might be guessing right about now what we chose. I sat while Luke laid down, and we both had a great view. Some of the castle show was blocked by the folks standing in the area directly in front of us, but not enough to spoil the enjoyment of it. Since Wishes goes off above the castle, we could see all of that easily.
Would we do this party with same day ressie again? Maybe not. We are neither one huge dessert eaters anymore, and because of that we had not done a dessert party of any kind for a goodly number of trips. But for us that night it was totally worth it to have a place to sit down or, in Luke’s case, to lie down and still totally enjoy Wishes. As a note, just as the castle show started my phone rang. I realized it was travismom (Regina) who was also at WDW. I tried to talk with her, but finally had to ask her if I could call back because I was having a great deal of trouble hearing her. Some of the speakers were very close to where we had plopped ourselves down. Between the castle show and Wishes, I called Regina back and we made plans to meet at Epcot on Wednesday. We agreed to text each other when we go to the park and arrange then where to meet.
When some of the crowd had made their way out, we joined the masses exiting the park via the new backstage exit that brought us out right near Town Hall and Tony’s Town Square Restaurant. We continued on to bus stop 16 to await an Animal Kingdom Lodge bus. There were already a few folks waiting, which made me think we might have a lit bit of a wait. I took a photo of the monorail as I love how this area looks lit up at night. Soon enough an AKL bus was pulling up, and we easily found seats for our ride home.
Back at the room, which we now knew was 7214, Luke climbed in bed while I actually managed to unpack everything from our suitcases and get myself ready for bed. This had been a long day, normal for us in the past, but way too long for Luke who was still in some pain. From this point on in the trip, we’ll rethink each day, determining at what point we’d both had enough. As you learn in future updates, this touring plans means some things, even favorite things, will be missed, but we were groovy with that. If we’d overdone it any day, we’d have had to give up much more. I was very thankful that we wouldn’t need to wake up for the third day in a row at 6:00 AM. We were sound asleep soon after our heads hit the pillows, which by the way, we brought from home.

That's exactly what it is. =) Hubby got all excited when he saw me reading and this popped up.

What a great way to end your first day! I can't imagine laying down to watch Wishes! Very cool!
I love the photos you took on SDMT! The one of Beast's castle in the twilight is gorgeous!
