An Easter return to the Isle of Man COMPLETED 5/10 - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Glad it wasn't quite as cold coming back! You wouldn't have been able to get as many good photos if you'd been in an enclosed car on the outbound journey.
Oh definitely! It was worth being cold to get those photos.
Fuzzy cow ears!
This is getting to be a tall mountain - what scenery you're getting! I didn't realize it was so tall. Very cool!

Just getting caught up! Great pictures from the Isle! So glad you had a nice dinner with Carole! Sorry it was so cold on the open air cars! Great pictures!
… and we could get out and admire the view. Barb decided to stay put, and we had 15 minutes until that train headed back down, as Dave, Mark and I had a quick explore and got some photos of the stunning vista laid out beneath us…
We made a quick restroom stop, and my goodness, the restaurant here is certainly packed with options – not what you necessarily expect from the top of a mountain!
We headed back on board to join Barb and a woman who’d recently fallen and had horrible bruising on her face and had injured her arm. They’d been chatting about getting the front of the carriage, because then no-one would open up the windows. Well, that didn’t work out. This guy got on with his son, who must’ve been about seven or eight, and the guy was utterly rude. First he sat behind us, and tried to open the window by their seat. Mark explained that, because this is an old railway, and the trains are wooden, some of the wood has warped and not all the windows open. He insisted we open ours, as he thought that would help with opening his straight behind, then it wouldn’t close, and I quite frankly told him to get it closed, as I never wanted the darned thing open.
He then moved over to sit in front of the woman who’d had the fall. He opened up the window, and the woman immediately said and told him she didn’t want him to do that, as she’d get cold, backed up by quite a few of us. He basically ignored everyone, and said his son would only be happy with the window open. The woman, now getting pretty irritated, and I really don’t blame her, told him in no uncertain terms he did not need the window open to see the scenery. She was right, but quite frankly, this guy did not care what the rest of us thought. All he wanted to do was video his son looking out of the window, which I understand, but he would’ve been absolutely fine doing that with the window closed.
We all tried to ignore them or, whenever we could, shoot them filthy looks, as I think it’s fair to say the whole carriage was by now pretty hacked off with his selfish attitude. At least we were able to concentrate on the views, which were lovely:
When we got back to Laxey, the guy turned round and mumbled “I’m sorry”, and I’m afraid I said in a loud voice that I’m sure he heard “no you’re not, otherwise you wouldn’t have behaved that way”. I meant it too – he was appallingly rude and arrogant and hadn’t cared what any of us thought or felt, so why even bother apologising?
We got off the train, and had a snack, with us getting another hot chocolate, Mark and Dave each having a sandwich, and Barb and I sharing a tuna one, as neither of us was that hungry yet. While we sat there in the pleasant sunshine, the brat and his appalling example of a father were playing football, and yes you did just read that right – by a railway track. The ball went up to the tracks at least once, and nearly hit a guy who was quietly sitting there minding his own business. We were all so relieved that, when the train to Douglas arrived, they didn’t get on it with us – phew.
Great views from up there. That's about as tall as the tallest point in Wisconsin.
What a bummer about the rude man though. Completely inappropriate. What a poor example he is setting for his son.

I am so glad that you enjoying taking photographs because I almost feel I've been on the train myself. Sorry about the rude dude! I just don't understand the unwillingness of some to realize they are not on this planet alone.

Love that furry sheep - her (or is it a him?) coat looks like its perfect for the wind off the sea!
Lousy about the obnoxious man. But maybe he did feel really badly by the end - once he'd thought about what he did? Sometimes you get caught up in a moment, and don't realize right away how rude you were. I'll admit to doing just that on Easter Sunday. For reasons I won't go in to here, I was completely stressed out by the time my daughter and I got to mass that morning. As I kneeled to pray prior to mass starting (and it was at least 45 minutes before mass was to start - that's how early you have to arrive to have a seat on Easter), the family in the pew in front of me was talking LOUDLY to each other, with those on either end being especially loud to be heard by those at the other end. I found that so obnoxious, that when I finished prayers, I said to my daughter "It's pretty difficult to focus on prayer when it's this loud". The father turned around immediately and apologized to me, and my daughter was mortified (she's 15). All during mass I felt so awful, as my tone was so rude - just as bad as them being loud, and maybe worse, as I'm an adult, and they were children. I kept wanting to say that I was sorry for being so short-tempered, that I'd had a bad morning, something, but never really had the opportunity. Anyway, I do give the guy some credit for saying he was sorry to you on the train. But agree he should've been more considerate from the start. As should I!
Some great photos of Douglas , the railway and from the mountains! I can't believe how rude that guy was! Seems like a poor excuse for a father....well, at least then he was! You hotel looks quite nice and your meal at L'Experience looked amazing! Too bad the weather wasn't the greatest, but at least for the railway trip it was improved!
