(Everest) Challenge: Accepted - PTR - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

So this morning I started Week 4 of C25K and this is where things always seem to fizzle out for me. It suddenly switches to a lot more running and a lot less walking. I get intimidated by the longer run intervals but try to "talk back" to the negative thoughts. I made it through the entire run this morning! I just have to keep up the momentum now.
It's taken me about 4 weeks to get to this point, so I'm getting through the program a little slower than I'd like. My speed is also still much slower than I'd like. Last time I did this I was going a bit faster, so not sure what has changed but I'd rather be able to make through it steadily than run fast but need more breaks.
The race is 4 weeks from Saturday, but I won't be home from Friday through next Thursday, so training might suffer. It's not looking like I'll make it through the whole program in time, but progress is progress!
Holy changes, Batman. Wow! Cirque and V&A? This is shaping up to be quite the vacation.
Don't worry about your training. Sounds like you're doing just fine! I'm just getting back at it myself after a back injury in October. It's a lot of work to get back to the old pace. But I wouldn't worry about it. You'll get to the race stronger than you are today, and you'll finish and have had a blast doing it! You're absolutely right - progress is progress. So keep it up!!

I know we have so much planned in, something is going to have to give at some point or else I'll need a caffeine IV!

Thanks! Now that I can run in the mornings again (I wouldn't when it was 40 degrees lol!) I think I should be able to be more consistent so hopefully my best keeps getting better!

The plan for today is either genius or crazy. We will be up bright and early, and then have to stay up super late. So hopefully I make it. Thank goodness caffeine exists. I’m also sooo hoping for a nap, but I’m not sure that will actually happen.
We start our morning by finally heading over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for early morning Magic Hours. Breakfast on the run and my uncle and his girlfriend if they care to join us. I can usually get a pretty good amount done in this first hour, so fingers crossed we can this time! We have FP+ slated for a little later in the morning, just to hop on anything we might have missed.
Tower of Terror 9:45-10:45
Indiana Jones 10:45-11:05
Toy Story 11:45-12:45
Ideally, we will get in both Toy Story Midway Mania and Rockin Rollercoaster before the first FP+. (Along with a first drop on ToT!) I always end up skipping shows because of timing issues, so I’m hoping that by having a FP+ we might actually get to Indy. I haven’t seen this stunt show in quite a while, and Cody didn’t get to see ANY shows on his last trip
Either after Indiana Jones or after a ride on Toy Story we are planning to head out of this park. I’m hoping this timing lines up with my Dad’s arrival to Orlando. Now that offsite guests can get FP+ I’m not sure what we’re going to do here, because he’s usually terrible about getting over early and tends to get to the parks right as crowds pick up. We don’t feel like we need FPs for later in the day, so he might be on his own while we nap!
Me and my daddy!
Anyway, this is when we head over to Epcot for one last breeze through of the F&G Festival. Plan is lunching around the booths and hanging out at World Showcase, no rides really but with a little brother in tow who knows what will happen? My dad is not one to plan and it drives me nutso, so I’m planning my day around what we’d like to do and when he gets there he can join us or do as he pleases.
After we say goodbye to Flower and Garden Festival, we head back to our resort! At some point we have to get to WWoS to pick up our packets etc for the Everest Challenge, so I’m thinking this will be when that happens. It will also be relax/pool time unless Scotty is pulling us to go to a park or something. He’s usually happy by the pool though and I’ve heard great things about the play area. Then we head to Boma for dinner at 6:05pm with the whole gang! We wanted it early enough that we had plenty of time to digest after!
Yum yum, and more yum!
I’m thinking after dinner is where we will get in a nap, and say goodbye to dad while he goes back out to the parks for a little before driving home (at least I’m assuming they are getting park tickets, he hasn’t the last few times but it’s Scotty’s birthday so I think he wanted to) Then we finally get ready for the race and hop on a bus to Animal Kingdom. The first corral is at 10:30 but we will be in a later one because I’m a slowpoke. I think we will head out to the bus around 9pm to get over there and set up and ready? I have a lot of other friends running the race so I’d like to see them too, but I’m not entirely sure timing here.
Then it’s TIME! EVEREST CHALLENGE! Cody and I will run as a pair through the 5k obstacle course and then put our heads together to solve the scavenger hunt clues. I’m not under the impression we are going to breeze through this, so whatever time we have left I want to at least get in a ride on Expedition Everest! I also just LOVE Animal Kingdom at night, so I’m so excited to get to be there after the sun goes down
(before ride photos were included on Photopass!)
The after-party ends at 2:30am I believe so we will head back to our resort via bus once again and immediately hit the hay.

Your timing of things regarding the races seemed a little different than I remembered it being in 2012, so I checked the site. A few things to make note of:
- On Saturday, the Expo is only open till 3pm. So you may want to get over there earlier, or even on Friday at some point! Friday hours are 11-7, Saturday is 9-3. It doesn't take long, it's a very small event, not even indoors. It's just outside at the top of the baseball field. (I noticed the hours are different this year from last year)
- The first corral actually starts at 10pm, not 10:30 (not that it really matters as I'm always in a mid-to-last corral too ). Therefore, the last bus leaves the resorts at 9pm, so maybe shoot for 8:45 ish? I don't want you to miss it after all this hard work!
For reference, here's last years final instructions: http://www.mickeymilespodcast.com/wp...structions.pdf
Your day sounds good - good idea to let your Dad just be on his own. Not much you can do about that! And yes, those clues are tough. Well, they were for me anyway. It's hard to think after running!

Yep! You'd think I'd learn my lesson from bailing on 1/2 my plans over Christmastime, but nope! I must do EVERYTHING!

Thank you so much for all this info, so helpful! I'm so lost as to what's actually happening. I just know it's going to be a blast! I do actually have packet pickup on our Friday schedule... but my hopes are just that I can hop in the car with my uncle to go get them (since he's running too) so it's really going to be dependent on his plans. Hoping he can even pick them up for us?! Wouldn't that be wonderful? So the plan to get them this afternoon is really only if we hadn't yet, but it looks like we won't have time so I'll make it more of a priority on Friday!
I didn't know there was such a thing as a "last bus" so looks like we will be finding time for that nap BEFORE dinner and then heading down after changing and all because it doesn't seem like we have as much time as I thought (because we are doing coordinating outfits, ohh Cody loves me a lot to put up with that one!)
This is why I post PTRs so that I can get all your wonderful advice and thoughts on my crazy over-ambitious plans
