Mom & Me, Work & Fun PTR (Sept. 7-14, 2013) - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The second day of homeschooling was similar to the first. Shana again had a small fit (not near as bad or long as the first day) and she decided she didn't want to do all her work right away and decided to spread it out throughout the day. I am fine with this as long as all of it gets completed by the end of the day. She did finish everything by 3pm. Hunter did great again and was finished about 11am. The kids decided not to go to the pool and played in the loft and played Wii.
Today was reversed. Hunter got sad during Bible again, but wouldn't tell me why (we were talking about hypocrisy, and I think he felt guilty from some past infraction). But he turned around and got working. Shana worked hard and finished by about 10:30a. Hunter was goofing off a little and was done by 11:00. Shana has a doctor's appointment at 12:45 for a chronic cough she has had since the end of July and then they are going to the pool today.
Overall, we had a great first week of homeschooling and next week we will add History/Geography and Science and see how things go.
I do actually have a trip update as well. So lets move on to that!
Today's Update: Limited Time Magic!
I have been wondering for awhile if there would be a special Limited Time Magic event on Friday the 13th while we were there, just seemed like a good day for something. I got a passholder's monitor in the mail (which Hunter promptly snuck away from me) and he asked me if I was going to be there for "Unleash the Villains". I asked him what it was and he said it was on Friday September 13th at Hollywood Studios! I told him I would in fact be there and I would have to go!
This, of course, put a wrinkle in all the plans I had previously made. The good news was that this is the last full day of our trip and is my catch-up day for pictures. So, we do not have anywhere in particular to be. Except we had an ADR at Wolfgang Puck that night at 7p and the event starts at 8p. I've not been to one of these but I anticipate it being pretty crowded.
I called my mom to discuss it and we both decided we could nix Wolfgang Puck and find somewhere in HS to get dinner. I looked over the options and we decided to go with Hollywood Brown Derby, it's a little pricier than we were originally planning but I like the menu options. I checked for ADR's and the only times available were 4:20p and 7:40. We decided to do an early dinner so we would be done before 8pm.
The kids have already told me that I have to (repeated multiple times) take their autograph books to get signed by all the villains. I wasn't planning to take those but I guess I will. I actually feel a little bad now that they won't be there, because they would love this event!
Oh, and my mom doesn't think she will be staying till the "13th Hour" but I sure am going to give it a go!
sounds like you have gotten all the details worked out in terms of collecting all you pictures. Glad you have some sort of answer about Hunter and hope you can get him back on track with meds and no fainting over the next few months.
We are planning on attending the Unleash the Villains event as well. It sounds like fun - but you're right, it will be super crowded! For that reason, we're going to lay low for the first part of the evening, and head over to DHS after 10.
I read about that event also and will be there on that day. I'm not sure if we'll be doing it, but it does sound like fun and I've never done one of the Limited Time Magic events. If we go, I'll look for you!
Glad the first week of school has gone well! I saw the Limited Time Magic Friday the 13th event in the Mickey Monitor yesterday. You will have to tell us all about it.

Glad you got caught up!
I think the plan is as good as I can get it. I am also happy to finally have a direction with Hunter. I was feeling frustrated every time the tests showed nothing and we had no answers. I was really happy with the neurologist.

Maybe we will see each other there! I was so excited when I saw it, it is really an event I would love to go to!

It is the perfect event for me, I love meeting/seeing the villains. When Hunter said it before I knew the date I thought "that would be perfect for Friday the 13th!".

I will definitely share all about it when we get home. I'm excited that I should have all my pictures done and it's on my "free" day. Worked perfect.

We will get into the swing of things. Once the rest of the town is in school it will help. Then they start feeling good when they are done at noon-1p while the others are at school till 3:30. I'm going to be looking forward to Friday the 13th the whole trip!

I agree! I love to see the villains and am so excited about the event. Only wish the kids were going to see it too. But I'm not bringing them.
Glad school is moving along for you guys! Sounds like not too many melt downs so far. Hope that continues!! Sounds like a great time at the Unleash the Villains!! Can't wait to hear all about it.
I hope you have fun at Unleash the Villians! it sounds like you've got some great plans!!
I am sure I will, I'm super excited about it.

It was a decent start. It's harder to get started and back into the routine for my kiddos, because they thrive so much on routine and going from summer routine to school routine takes a little time. Of course, just as we start to get on track, I will be leaving for Disney!
I think Unleash the Villains will be awesome!

I have already been instructed by Shana and Hunter that I must take lots and lots of pictures during the event.
Okay, clearly I am getting a little too anxious for my trip, I'm starting to have weird dreams.
Last night I had a dream that Pat, the kids and I were at Epcot. It was some kind of weird event or change that they were now allowing pets to be in the park (not even on leashes) . So, we had our puppy Chessie with us, she was a younger puppy though, more like when we got her. As we were walking through an area with lots of flowers there was a guy walking by that said he wanted one of the flowers and cut one off. Then he threw it back in the flower bed (not sure what that was all about). Then we ended up in an area the bottle-necked and we lost Chessie. After looking for her for awhile, which was hard because there were so many dogs running around loose, I heard my name over a loud speaker telling me my dog was at security. I found her (and they had like 50 other dogs there as well) and we went back to our room. That's when I woke up.
I will say one thing that I learned from this, it is a really good thing they don't allow dogs in the park.
