Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Another fantastic meal! As much as I love Disney, I'm not sure I'd want to live in an RV for 6 months. A resort maybe, lol!

Ha! I was listening to the WDW Today podcast a couple of months ago, and they were saying they knew someone who had stayed at a resort for 2 months! How on earth does anyone have this kind of money?!

Day 6, Part 2: Wednesday, October 3rd

After relaxing in the room for a bit, we started getting ready for our dinner ADR at Flying Fish. I was excited because this restaurant has been on my “to do” list for a long time! I had a headache, so I popped some Tylenol before we walked out the door. When we walked outside, it was raining lightly, but not too bad.

We were seated right away, and we had an absolutely phenomenal meal! We had the crab cake appetizer, which was amazing. My other favorite crab cake on property is at HBD, and this one was every bit as good.

I had the potato wrapped snapper and David had the NY Strip. We ordered a half-bottle of Mer du Soleil Silver Chardonnay. Our server (whose name I neglected to write down) was very generous with us. He poured a glass for each of us BEFORE filling our carafe, then said, “It’s our little secret” with a sly grin. So we got almost the whole bottle for the price of a half-bottle!

We finished dinner around 7:20 and it was raining more steadily, so we donned our ponchos and headed toward Epcot. I still wasn’t feeling too stellar. I think several days of rich food and wine was catching up to me. I was feeling a little nauseated and needed to stop and sit still for a moment. While I rested, David went to the Desserts and Champagne booth to get our passports stamped. We had gone to this booth on the very first day, but didn’t have passports at the time. He also bought another glass of the Moet & Chandon Ice Imperial sparkling wine. He sipped while I sat and tried to recover. After a few minutes of rest, I was feeling better and we moved on.

We had tickets to the Disney Food Blog IllumiNations Dessert Party, which was supposed to take place on the Rose & Crown patio. But because it had been raining for much of the afternoon, Disney required that the event be moved inside. We had been getting email updates throughout the day, and the last email told us to report to The Odyssey for the party and that we would then be escorted to a reserved viewing area for the fireworks.

David was very excited about this -- “We actually get to go in there? What the heck is inside?” I remembered going there once in the early 1990s when it was still a CS restaurant, but he had never been inside. They checked our names against the guest list and gave us wristbands that we’d need for access to the fireworks viewing area.

I was still really full from dinner -- and I worried that this would be the case when we made our ADRs, but we really wanted to try Flying Fish, and this was the only day we could fit it in our schedule. There was an amazing dessert buffet -- cheesecake brownies, school bread, zebra domes, butterfinger cupcakes, popcorn, Mickey bars, and more! I had heard so much about zebra domes and I was excited to try one. It was ok, but not the mind-blowing experience I had come to expect.

Love me some school bread!

Zebra Domes Aplenty!

Despite the fact that we had arrived, as instructed, at 7:45, all of the tables were already full. I guess lots of people came early to get out of the rain. We found a place where we could use a ledge as a table. I snapped a photo; it’s dark, but here you can see the inside of The Odyssey!

Several minutes later, a woman walked up to us and said, “I have a table, but I’m all by myself. Would you come join me so I don’t feel so awkward?” I thought this was (a) incredibly nice and (b) incredibly brave! We happily joined her and had a nice conversation. Her name was Michelle. She was originally from Rhode Island but now lives in Georgia. In the meantime, David and I each polished off a Mickey bar and some other snacks. I know David had a school bread, and I think I tried a cheesecake brownie. By this point in our trip, my lack of hunger was completely unrelated to whether or not I would keep putting food in my mouth!

At 8:45pm, a CM came and led us to a reserved viewing area near Mexico. Another guest was kind enough to offer me a viewing spot along the railing when she saw my big camera. At first, I declined, but she offered again a few minutes later, so I took her up on it because I desperately wanted to try to get some good photos. I knelt down for the whole show so she could still have a good view, and it was very helpful to have the railing to steady my camera because I had forgotten my portable tripod. The show was, as always, beautiful. When it was over, we bid farewell to Michelle, said goodbye and thank you to AJ for hosting, and headed back to the villa for the night.

Some of those white streaks were launched from a spot literally right in front of us!

We had talked earlier in the day about maybe heading over to Jellyrolls, but we were too tired, so we just went back to our room. David started a load of laundry, we called home to talk to the kids, then called it a night. This was our last night at BC, but we decided to pack up in the morning.

Day 6 Recap:

The weather today was...cloudy in the morning, hot in the afternoon, and rainy in the evening.

The best thing today was...the Italian Regional Lunch.

The worst thing today was...the heat.

The funniest thing today was...trying to drink the Tipsy Ducks in Love.

Today we tried...Flying Fish Cafe
and the result was...we loved it and can't wait to go back!

The most magical moment today was...the Disney Food Blog IllumiNations viewing.

I LOVE Flying Fish! My favorite server there is Nick, but they're all really good. Glad you liked it! I never knew that the dessert party had specialties from around the resort. That's great! I don't know how you kept eating, after the fabulous lunch and dinner! Your Illuminations photos are outstanding!

Your meal at the Flying Fish looked delicious - I was excited before about going back there (three weeks tomorrow - can you tell I'm excited? ) but even more so...

Cool to finally see inside the Odyssey, although sadly it didn't look that exciting! And how lovely of Michelle to do that - as you say, incredibly nice and incredibly brave.

Great shots of Illuminations - and without a tripod! Glad Michele offered to share her table - probably made for a more pleasant evening for her as well.

The two of you really seem to be doing F&W up right!

Looks so good. Still trying to decide if Flying Fish has enough for the non-seafood eater.

I'm a vegetarian-- no meat, no fish-- and Flying Fish tops my list of favorite restaurants. Their salads are amazing, and they will put together an incredible veggie platter for you. There is always also a vegetarian pasta dish on the menu. Give it a try!
