The Great Procrastination PTR--Trip in Aug. 2011 - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

It sounds like a great get away at the beach! I wouldn't worry too much about your Disney mail, if you don't have it by the end of the week, check back with your TA!
Disney Mail arrived yesterday--we got our itinerary, coupon book, luggage tags, and Magical Express stuff all in one envelope from our TA.
It's a big load off because now we're all good-to-go...almost.
The flight information is incomplete and I'll either have to call the TA or ME directly to sort that out. It's not a big deal, I'm sure. I can sort it out. It's just one more annoying glitch. I gave the TA the information specifically. I remember the conversation because she commented on the "deal" we got on the flights.
I'm sure that people have had great luck dealing with AAA and their Disney trips, but we will not be using them for this purpose again.
And now I'm off to dance with the kids to the Phineas and Ferb soundtrack.

My parents are coming up from Connecticut today for a visit. Since my parents are driving down to Orlando in a few weeks, they have offered to bring some things with them to help us out.
Since we're flying SW, we have the opportunity to bring a lot of luggage with us. I'm expecting that with the kids' aunts, grandparents and cousins coming along on the trip, we're going to have more stuff coming home than when we left home. I hadn't really thought of having anything really in the van...especially since the van will be packed anyway with five adults and their luggage.
I figured that I would send with my mother a couple of those big bags of generic cereal and the coffee for my sisters. So yesterday, I dragged the kids to Target to specifically get those two items.
Um...not so much. I picked up some yoga pants and a shirt for me. I got a movie for movie night, travel conditioner (because I used what I bought a while ago...), deoderant, and some other things I can't remember. But the best things I bought yesterday--and possibly in my children's short lifetimes--were suitcases. Jack now has a blue suitcase that rolls and has airplanes on it. Anna's is pink and has butterflies and hearts. They're cute. Perfectly kid-sized and since they have wheels, the kids can roll them themselves through Logan both on their way to and from our trip. And they were cheap, too. Jack's was $21 and Anna's was $25--not so sure why the difference in cost as they're the same suitcase, just different colors.
For at least four hours yesterday, the kids played with their new suitcases. They had suitcase races in the driveway. They pretended they were going to work. It was adorable.
This morning, the suitcases were the first things they reached for. It was great until one of the suitcases took out the dogs' water bowl . Now, the suitcases are taking a little rest...
One more thing taken care of...I'll just have to go and get the cereal and coffee for when Karen comes up on the 13th.
They are pretty cute. They came with little plush key-chains that are no longer attached to the cases...The suitcases might get put into use this weekend as we may be headed back to the Cape for a short little trip . The kids don't know yet!
Just got off the phone with Disney's Magical Express. I had to add the flight information. It was super easy to do so. I feel so much better now about that part of the trip.
Here is the outline of the trip:
Friday, August 19
We'll land at MCO probably around 11:30 a.m., which would put us at POFQ at about 1 ish. Geri and Kristy will be there around that time. Karen is hoping that she, her girls and our parents will be there around that time, too. Don't know how that is going to work. Val won't be there until much later. Her flight gets in after 10 p.m.
If the room is not ready, we'll go to the pool and hang out there until it is. I'll have our bathingsuits in our carry-on.
If the room is ready, we'll go to our room and drop what we have and then we'll go to the pool. If the kids are good to go we'll go to Magic Kingdom and do CS for dinner.
If they're relatively good, we'll go to DTD and have dinner. If they're not good (and chances are they won't be because we'll be up at 4 a.m.), we'll just stay in the pool and do dinner at the food court.
Everyone else will be at O'Hana for a late dinner.
Saturday, August 20, 2011
I'm not so sure what everyone else is doing, but my little family will head out to Hollywood Studios for EMH that morning. We'll get done what we can before we can't handle the crowds.
We'll head back to POFQ for swimming and a rest.
The afternoon will be Epcot with dinner for the four of us at Gardent Grill.
Everyone else has an ADR at Rose and Crown.
Sunday, August 21
Karen, Val, Geri and the girls are headed out to US for Harry Potter.
Our little family plus my parents will start the day at Animal Kingdom with breakfast at Tusker House.
We'll head back to the hotel for a swim/rest.
Then we're back to Epcot for dinner at Biergarten for all six of us.
Monday, August 22
Everyone else is going to Sea World.
Animal Kingdom has morning EMH, so we might start off there. Take the break at the pool and then head out to Magic Kingdom. We might just spend the day at Magic Kingdom. We made no ADR's so we can super flexible.
Tuesday, August 23
We're starting the day at Chef Mickey's. I made this ADR at Kristy's request because it's her birthday and she wanted to get a group picture with all of us at Chef Mickey's. Now we don't know if she'll be there because that might be the day she moves into her dorm...
Karen and Val are taking the kids. I believe they have an ADR for Teppanyaki.
My parents want to take off and do stuff on their own this day.
John and I are on our own as well. We've got an ADR for dinner at Flying Fish.
Wednesday, August 24
The rest of the fam is laying low this morning, but the four of us may go to Epcot.
We've got a Linner (lunch/dinner) ADR at Crystal Palace late in the afternoon, so we'll spend the afternoon at Magic Kingdom.
Thursday, August 25
Karen and Val booked a pirate cruise for my kids this morning.
Then I figured we could try to hit the things we either haven't or would like to do again.
We're wondering about the Wishes Dessert Party. I had heard that it was no longer available, but my sister Lori (who isn't coming with us because she went in June) was able to make a reservation once she got to the hotel. This might be a nice way to end the trip...
Friday, August 26
This is our last day. Our flight out is at 9:50, which means we'll probably be on DME by 7 (the latest). I don't know when everyone else is filtering out.
I don't want to think about the trip ending...Once it does, I'll have to get ready for school and then before I know it, we'll be back to the school-year grind. Yuck!
