As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

You got me thinking. My DH is going to a seminar in Miami in December. I could use some quiet time, so hmmmmm, maybe I could go solo. I'll have to look into that. Plus I wanted to get some 40th anniversary stuff too, as I turned 40 in February.
Congrats on the extra days. I can't see spending all that extra money either when you are solo traveling. If you had a group or it was something special or you knew you were going to be spending more time in the room.
I only have 129 days to go and so much to do! Got a wee bit of butterflies thinking about it!

sounds like two perfectly good reasons to go solo in the world!
I was in WDW in February and picked up a good amount of 40th anniversary goods (including the ridiculously expensive ear hat). Hopefully there will be more since the actual anniversary is Oct. 1.

I'm attending MNSSHP the first night I'm there and planning on attending the Swan/Dolphin F&W Classic on Friday and the Party for the Senses on Saturday. Having the extra days will allow for some relaxation time and exploring the World at my own pace.

You've got the two biggest pieces of the Disney puzzle in place: lodging & transportation. Now it's time to fill in available space.

I'm so excited to be able to do this. I worked my tail off last year to pay for the gigantic bday bash we had at Disney in February and I just kept going and I've been able to pay off most of my bills. The way I figure it, as long as I'm able to keep pushing myself working hard, why not reward myself for it?
I hope that you can make a trip to WDW next year and then you'll be able to celebrate two big events (your bday and DD's graduation)!!

Not too much to report on the planning, Just little things. I finally got myself a PassPorter name badge (jennie622) so hopefully I'll run into some PPs on my next trip.
I also did Early Bird CheckIn for SWA. Need my window seat near the front of the plane.
I'm purchasing my Swan & Dolphin Food & Wine Classic Causeway event tix tomorrow. I've tried a few times but I seem to be on hold forever. Plus, I have to inquire about discounts for Dolphin hotel guests.
I'm still wrestling with the idea of an AP. yeah, price went up $20 but now I'm not sure if I'll make it down there again within a year due to some unforseen changes.
I'm moving out on my own. Sort of touched on the fact my DBF and I are having some problems earlier in the report. Well, I've decided it's best if I get my own place. SO, all of the money I've been saving for Disney is now going to moving. Security deposit, application fee, travelling from SC to NJ and back (my furniture & pretty much everything else from my last apt has been in storage up there for 4 years). This includes gas for a Yukon XL there and back, a one way trailer rental from NJ to SC, hotel & food costs too. Ick!
I also purchased a TV off Amazon the other day. I have three tube tvs in storage but they are ancient and I'll donate them to Goodwill. I couldn't pass up a 32" Vizio LCD internet ready tv for $348 (no shipping or tax - love you Amazon) when I originally found the same model at Costco for $500+, Best Buy $499 and even Walmart was $418. With only 4 units left, had to act fast. It's not due to arrive until mid July / mid August which is perfect since move in date is July 21st.
I'm really excited about having my own place again - it means I can bust out all my Disney stuff! My decorating style is very Animal Kingdom!
Ugh, that reminds me, I have to buy a mattress. More money out of the Disney fund. Poop! Does anyone remember the Disney Home Store in DTD?? It's where Goofy's Candy Company stands now. It was amazing, I have lots of items from that place and really wish it still remained. Guess the cost of shipping Disney furniture and Decor while on vakay turned some away. Well, there's always online.
Well, I'm off to note August 16th on my calendar so I can pick up my Party for the Senses tix.

Thank you!! I've just resigned myself to working seven days a week and I'm on financial lockdown unless it's for moving or Disney. I'm sure the road trip to Jersey with my Disney buddies should be fun - I'll post a mini TR within this PTR when the time comes. Jennie #1 (I'm Jennie #2) has never been further North than North Carolina! Once we hit Jersey, I can tell HER she talks funny!

I knew I Loved ya for a good reason (other than all the drinking and fun you like to have!!! ) but my style is very Animal Kingdom as well...............as a matter of fact, it is still in transition............but I plan after this trip (with the new camera ) to add a very large wall photo collage of sepia printed animal photos!!!!
Sorry about the BF though...........that does suck - but sounds like it is for the best!??!
Can't wait to hear about your NJ road trip! I have friends that we visit there - and it is always a HOOT to go there!
