Prickle Pants, Pinky and the Brain, Party in the World - Live Trip Updates 12/3/10 - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sharing Disney with the class! That sould go over good, and we may just reap the benefits of another Lily TR!
She was pretty excited when we told her about it, if she doesn't have to share with the class, that has her a bit freaked out, we'll see

41 days getting so close now!!!
thanks, I will share all of your comments with her, she will be beaming. We've really been working on paragraph structure at home and at school, We have accelerated her learning with full blessing of her teacher in preparation for the alternate teaching available next year. To her it is just journaling and fun. Her teacher is really great at allowing Lily to do work to her ability. Such as when the class was reading Frog and Toad are Friends in their reading book, she and her group read a book on the life cycle of the frog, and were tested on that in addition to the other story. She amazes me daily and I hope that she will continue to love our extra projects. She picked out her journal for the trip tonight, and I saw her drawing in it so, she is preparing. . . She will be thrilled that all of my friends and hers too will be following along.
I am vascilating on dining you guys, it is a very bad sickness seriously. Now that we are doing DVC, I'm thinking of doing just basic dining, (with bagels and cereal etc in the room) We've always planned on paying for our dining plan but having the kitchen will make it easier to manage left overs etc. Which there will be a lot of and then I won't have to worry about left over credits, if we have to pay oop for a few meals no big deal. Or should we just go Annual pass and tables in wonderland? I am so confused.
Please oh wise and wonderful friends tell me what to do, we are foodies but can't eat a ton at one time. We have so many places we want to eat but. . .
I'm not sure what will be best for you all, but we have chosen APs and TiW. For the dining plan Stefanie would be charged an adult price as she is 24, but there is no way she can eat an adult size meal. At many restaurants she still orders and prefers to order off the kids' menu. So we save money doing TiW rather than any of the DPs. I do register her as an adult for our ADRs, but almost all of our servers have reduced her price to a child's as they see just how little she eats.
Welcome
That is wonderful news! The best part about DVC is knowing you will be back. Then the need to rush around, be at the parks all day long and make yourself crazy...drastically decreases. You can enjoy being at WDW even more! So happy for you! And a 1BR at AKL will be so wonderful for you all! Just wonderful!!!
We've never gotten the dining plan either as we haven't felt it would be beneficial to us yet. I'd look at the ADRs you have and then what you'd most likely order and see if it would be to your benefit.
All caught up now. Great PTR! Congratulations on DVC. AKL is our home resort and we absolutely love it. You will too. I wish I could help with the dining dilemma but I can't ever decide either. I always say we will get deluxe dining next time, mostly so we don't have to worry when the kids want an extra snack, but we always end up on the basic plan. We have done the deluxe for one night of our trip, since we were transferring, and it really was a lot of food and took a lot of time out of our touring. Sorry if I'm just confusing you more. Like I said I'm no help, lol.
In regards to the dining plan-right now I am sticking with the dining plan b/c it is cheap to feed my two girls for about $11 a day. Now once they become "adults" then I think the TiW discount will fare better for us.

Exactly my dilemma!

Lily would probably just as soon share, as long as she can eat shrimp everyday she is happy!

It really is hard to decide with three, KWIM, it's so hard to decide, Lily would rather share than anything, She is a picky eater.
Still no decision: I think I'll make a spread sheet.

This is a non park day, We have reservations for 1900 Parke Faire for a late breakfast and then reservations for Spirit of Aloha.
Otherwise it will be shopping, shopping, shopping. I will need to hit World of Disney, Once upon a Toy, The Christmas Shoppe, the Villain store, goofy's candy company etc.
Pat also enjoys shopping very much, (I know strange right?) He does all of the grocery shopping at our house.
We will also hang at the resorts and may resort hop a little bit. I look forward to this relaxing day!
Here is my preliminary shopping list:
Once Upon a Toy: A box of potato head accessories for me and Lily!
The Christmas Shoppe: A dated christmas ornament. I also collect nativity scenes, so I'll probably look for one of those (any ideas ladies?)
Goofy's Candy: I never find something here that catches my eye but Pat and Lily will.
Villain store: I love Ursula so definitely some sort of Ursula souvie!
World of Disney: I collect those silly character magnets, this year, buzz and woody I think
Pin Collectors: Pins of course, I love Pins! I plan to focus on Holiday pins, I need a AKL pin, a MVMCP pin, a 2010 Christmas pin, another 2010 pin for my second visit this year! Anything Marie! A Pixar pin or two or three! Hmmmm I also want a vinylmation or two or three
I'm sure we'll hit a bunch more stores and we'll buy more but these are the things at the top of my list!
Now as for Spirit of Aloha-I'm undecided, it was one of my original ADR's but now I can't decide I just can't get into the whole idea of it. I mean it'll be chilly at night and probably cool but if I could get a really neat ADR somewhere else, then. . . idk.
Up next our last day
BTW: signed all of the contracts today, everything should be finalized soon
Congrats on DVC. Love your plans and can totally relate to the desire to make changes. There is not enough time to do everything you want, but with DVC that might help. A spreadsheet is a great idea, you could also see how people rate and review each plan. Our family has found the regular dining to be the best deal for us. Not to add to your problem, but if you do get AP's you can get discounts at some restaurants. Good luck deciding and look forward to reading more of your plans.
