2 Year Anniversary PTR September 2010 - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Jessie(yes?), I feel your pain, 83 days today here! Everything is set and I am just stuck waiting. I even started planning next years trip with my family. I am now getting excited about that now too, and it's still over a year away, Sept.2011!
Btw, everytime I see where you live I think we are from the same place! Alas we are not, I keep reverting the the W, I am from MA! LOL
Well we will be in the same place in 83 days!!
Talk to you during you next update! You should check out my PTR, it's more like a P-PTR right now, as I am explaining why I am going on this next trip, havent gotten to this trip yet. I would like to, but I am leaving it up in the air right now, as it seems noone has read or is interested in my story. Hmmm....maybe I am not a good story teller, LOL!!!
Talk to you soon!
Waiting stinks! Fast forward to September please... ^_^ It's funny that you keep inverting the W.
I wouldn't take it offensively that no one has gotten around to posting comments on your story yet. There are SOOOooo many on here. I only follow about five religiously. Especially since my time on the computer has been pretty restricted lately due to work and other commitments. I'll try to go read yours!
BTW, for some reason, only my family and my husband call me Jessie, but you are welcome to call me Jess. My full name, of course, is Jessica.

Thanks for the advice. I absolutely love this dress, and hardly ever have the chance to dress up, so I think I'll bring it.

Jess,
Oh, I'm not taking offense. Just not going to post unless I know someone is reading it. Started out that way, but then I realized a PTR was SO much more! HAHAHAHA! I know there are tons, and what gets me to read is a good title.
Inverting- HA- thats the word I was looking for! Reverting, that was stupid! Yeah, we are so close, more like opposite ends of the country! LOL

Lol, no not stupid! I knew the word was on the tip of your tongue, and that you just couldn't remember, so I thought I'd help you out.
I read the beginning of your trip report btw, and thought it was good. I would recommend moving it from the "Planning" to the "Sharing Your Adventure" section of Passporter. I think your readership would grow. People don't seem to follow the Planning ones nearly as closely as the PTRs and TRs that are posted under "Sharing." Just a thought!

So, I realized today (as I was writing out a grocery list of all things), that I have yet to call the Big River Grill and Brewing Works (again) to try to set up a reservation or priority seating reservation or whatever it is they call it there.
It's apparently on a different system than the rest of Disney's restaurants, because when I tried to call way back at 180 days out, they told me I would have to call in May or June. When I called back the next day to double check (during the day, I had called pretty late the night before), I was told to call in July or August. (So much for trying to get an earlier call-back time, eh? )
So, I proceeded to completely forget about it until earlier today. Which is, of course, totally out of character for me with anything Disney Trip Related.
I can't call right now, because it is currently 12:55AM in Florida, but I will call tomorrow when I get home from work around 4:00. (Tomorrow is my 10th day in a row, working with no days off! Thank God it's my Friday! I am off Friday and Saturday, then it's back to the daily grind on Sunday!)
This one little phone call has me all excited and in planning mode again...with nothing to plan!!!!
SeaWorld has yet to publish their show schedule for September. Playing around with it a bit, I figured out they usually don't until about 30 days prior...Which sucks for me, because I can't put together an accurate touring plan without the show schedule. There are three shows that I've decided we WILL NOT be allowed to miss!
On the one hand, this is good, because I know I still have something to plan. On the other hand, this is bad, because I know I still have something to plan...and am currently unable to plan it!!
Life is just complicated with all these things that I wish I could plan but am unable to plan! Eesh.
So, I have discovered a fellow Disney fanatic at work. Not so much with the parks and things like that, but with the movies. So now, when we are both back in the Dairy cooler, one of us will start singing a song from a Disney movie, and the other will join in. Juvenile? Yes. Passes the time quickly though, and we have each other just cracking up laughing some days with the random Disney songs we get stuck in each others head. I got Hakuna Matata stuck in her head the other day, so she retaliated with Bear Necessities. Oy! Another plus is when customers open the door to grab their milk or cottage cheese or whatever, they start laughing because we're dancing around singing while we put product on the shelves. It makes everyone happy...except maybe our supervisor.
I want to start planning my 2011 Disneyland trip, but am reluctant to do so without 2011 Guidebooks. I am completely spoiled....and obsessive.
I am thinking about asking David if next year, when we go to Disneyland, my BFF and her boyfriend can come along. They'd have to pay their own way of course, but I think it would be fun. The only thing is, these trips are our anniversary present to ourselves, so I don't know what David will say...probably "If you really want..." but then be secretly disappointed. I will have to feel him out and see what happens. I don't know. Jess (my BFF), has been to Disneyland 5 times and never to Disney World. Maybe I'll wait to invite her until we're headed to the World again. She's been talking about wanting to make it down there. She offered to pay for my checked bag if I put her inside it for this trip, but I told her I didn't think that was a good idea.
I washed each of our beach towels separately yesterday, twice, and dried them. There was a freaking INCH of lint in the filter when I took them out of the dryer, and lint in the washer, so I've decided to wash them again separately one more time, and then just randomly throw them in when I wash towels for the next few weeks to get all that extra lint off of them. I don't want to lie down on them in Florida in my cute swimsuit and sit up looking like I rolled in a lint filter. I am probably worrying too much about it, but that's just me.
Anyway, this "update" is getting really super long!
I will post again tomorrow after I call the restaurant so you'll know if I got a good time.
Lol, no not stupid! I knew the word was on the tip of your tongue, and that you just couldn't remember, so I thought I'd help you out.

Thanks Jess! It's kind of fun writing it and seeing what people have to say about it. But yes I agree with you on two points, one is I read a handful of PTR/TR's (yours included ,lol) and it is...eh....time consuming, to say the least. But I do love it!! And talking to the few people I have, it's nice to "make friends" with the couple people I have thus far on here!
Secondly, I have had my PTR moved to the sharing forum. Round NeeLee did it for me, thanks RNL!! (HAHAHA, She will forever be known to me as that now, poor lady!)
Thanks for your encouragement, and I decided to keep writing and posting whether people are reading or not! LOL
Ok, I am sure I will be posting again, as I see you have updated again. So talk to you in a few minutes, LOL!!
I hate lint!! Hopefully your new towels will be lint free by the time you get there. That sounds like SO much fun to go to WDW with your bff, I am kind of doing that this Sept. with my mom. As you probably have gathered from my PTR, being raised by my Gram, my mom and I are more like bff's than mom and daughter. Gram was my mom! I am so excited to be "running" around the world with my bff!!
I too have the Disney bug and have already started planning my family trip for next Sept.2011. OMG, some AWESOME plans next year, SO SO excited. I must finish this PTR and TR first huh?!! LMBO
Hope you get the ressie you want, and looking forward to hearing!
So, I just got off the phone with Big River Grille and Brewing Works, and have a Priority Seating Reservation for 6:00 PM the day we get into Florida. Perfecto! That's the exact time that we were hoping for.
Our flight gets in at 4:25, so I figure that gives us just enough time to get to the hotel, freshen up, and then either grab a cab or a bus depending on how close we are cutting it.
After dinner that night, we are going over to Jellyrolls. This is the first time I've been to Disney World over the age of 21 and able to purchase alcohol, so I think we are going to have fun trying some new drinks this time, especially at Epcot.
I am going to start putting money in our Mousekeeper Envelopes, so I don't have to worry about forgetting, and I am starting to put together a packing list for us.
In the meantime, I have two family reunions to go to this summer, and those are coming up here pretty quickly, one at the end of July, the other right at the beginning of August.
The one in July is David's family, and we'll be staying either with his grandparents for that weekend or in a motel, so all I really have to do to get ready is pack a bag and throw it in the car.
The one in August though, we're all going camping, so I have to go get our camping stuff out of storage and air it out, get the sleeping bags washed because I can't stand the way they smell when they've been in storage, and then I have to buy a little bit of food to contribute for the weekend. I also need to buy my younger brother a graduation/birthday present, because his birthday happens to be the weekend of our reunion.
I have to have a little side note. My brother will be turning 21 this August, and I am SO proud of him, because he just graduated from high school a couple of weeks ago!
He has learning disabilities, so school was never his forte. And then for a while he got in with the wrong crowd and was doing some pretty scary drugs, stealing, skipping school a lot, and drinking alcohol pretty heavily, stuff that he and his friends had stolen.
Then, when he was 17, he decided he needed to stop, and with a little help from his alternative high school, his family, and his amazing self-motivation...he kicked drugs, kicked drinking, quit smoking, got new (better, saner) friends, got a job, and now, he's graduated, and is planning on going to culinary school. As his older sister, I am just so proud of him that I could (and have) cried . I was so afraid for him, and am amazed at what a well put-together young man he is turning into! He just got his first apartment with his girlfriend, too. Ahhhh! I am just so proud of him. So I think he deserves a really good present!
So, back to Disney. Sorry, I am just so beside myself with happiness!
So, now that I have made this ressie, the only thing I am waiting for is for SeaWorld to post their show schedule and for my paperwork/luggage tags to get here. Woot! It's getting so close now!

Great update! So glad you got the exact ressie you had wanted, that is awesome! You should be proud of your brother, that is an accomplishment! Even one of those things would be, and he did them all, that is fantastic! A lot of people that age would have given up on school, he really does have motivation. Good luck to him in culinary school.
Yes, the wait continues....it is driving me nuts! HAHAHA! But at least I have PP forums, PTR and TR to read, and PP friends to continue to talk to!
We should totally meet up in WDW, even if just at the hotel pool bar, have a drink. Or if we are going to be in the same park the same day, especially Epcot...evening....france slushie cart?? MMMMMMMM!!!!!!! MWHAHAHAHA!!!
Jessica, great updates. Sounds like you have been pretty busy too, and will be busy with Family Reunions. Continued pixies for David's Grandma and congrats to your brother for finally graduating High School. I can certainly understand how you're proud of him with his learning disabilities, as I know very well how hard school can be for anyone one with any kind of learning disability (myself and Erick included), and how great your brother has gotten out of his old ways. My sister used to do that kind of thing too when we were younger and tried to drag me into it. It's hard to see your siblings doing things they know will give them a troubled life and want nothing more for them to get back on track. My sister was into even stealing my ADHD Medication because she never wanted to get tested herself and go on her own prescription for them(I used to have full bottles with only 2 left in them and she would deny it). Sorry about that, but I can relate on the troubled sibling situation.
Hopefully Sea World will post their schedules soon so you can plan some more. Gettig closer Jessica!

Yay, I'm glad you're all caught up. I'm reading your TR right now too, and I wanted to ask you, how do you post links so that when you click on them they take you to the page? I want to do that to connect my TR with my PTR once I've gotten back in September, and I don't know how!
