The Continuing Story of the Adventures of a CM! - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Passporter Peeps always know the right things to say. Teresa, your post made me cry (in a good, healthy way!). There's a song I really like called "The Voice of Truth" that says, "the giant's calling out my name and he laughs at me, reminding me of all the ways I've tried before and failed". It goes on to say, "But the voice of truth tells me a different story, the voice of truth says "do not be afraid!"
Thank you, everyone, for helping me hear the voice of truth when that old giant gets in my head.
I got an email from the intern office today, got all excited, only to find that it was new instructions for check-in day! I've decided I don't really mind not knowing anymore. Just knowing that I'll be there is enough for me. I still can't get my brain wrapped around it sometimes. It's like getting the present you'd hoped and hoped for for Christmas, but KNEW there was no way Santa would ever bring it. Like, like...a PONY!
I still have quite a bit to do around here before I leave and I'm still procrastinating. I've made some headway with the scrapbook stuff, it's barely a dent. I didn't put the cartop carrier on when I came back and I'm regretting that decision. I've told hubby I'll just strap the suitcases on top with a tarp, but he keeps railing on and on about how he told me so, blah, blah, blah. Whatever. I think I'm going to wind up shipping a box of kitchen stuff. Lord knows, he didn't use it, so I'm going to.
10yo is having a lunch/movie/sleepover w/ BFF this week, so that's good. I got texting on our family plan so that has really helped them not be so upset about leaving, for some reason. Who understands the mind of a 10yo girl???

Glad to hear you are at peace with not knowing. It's good you are getting excited about the new MI and that your DD is starting to relax and go with the flow of things. Where ever you end up in your internship I am sure you will make lots of Disney "Magic". It is just who you are and everyone around you is blessed by it. I really hope you become a permanent CM, I think that Disney is truly blessed to have you. Besides all of us here want to meet you and your internship is just not long enough. Who knows what lies ahead for you but I am sure that you will make the most of it. Good luck and I can't wait to read more of your adventure.
Got an email today...changing my check in location and time! STILL no word on a location and still nothing from the relocation folks, either. At least I know I've not slipped through the cracks if I have an appointment for a check-in time!
I've made good progress on my to-do list, just need to keep up the momentum. I'm hoping we can get it all in the van or on the hitch tray. HOPING. I did look into renting a small UHaul trailer, but it was something like $150, so no, I can FedEx a LOT for that if it comes down to it. When I left in January, the holidays and my perpetual procrastination had really crimped what I got done, so I came home to stacks and piles that I've been trying to sort through little by little. I'm also mucking through all of my leftover scrap stuff from my defunct Scrappie Chick business and pricing it for the fall scrap & stamp sale I participate in. Hubby will have to deliver and pick it up (he's been warned); I have to get it all set up so he can do that without much drama.
We are going to have to have some carpet replaced when I get back to FL, so I'm trying to sort all that out w/ the landlord, too. I really would like it done before I start back to work.
For someone who never wanted a career or to work outside the home, I find myself surprisingly giddy about my new job. My high school counselor was always frustrated with me when he'd ask what I wanted to do with my life and I said, "Be a wife and mother". "Sure," he'd say, "but what do you want to DO" as if the wife/mom gig wasn't enough. I love the whole SAHM/WAHM thing, but I'm amazed at how much more I've enjoyed working. Of course, I don't know if I'd enjoy it nearly as much if it weren't at WDW...

thanks for updating us...can't wait to find out where you will be. the manners fairy is working on her patience...he he he
One of my favorite scenes in Evan Almighty is when Morgan Freeman tell's Evan's wife, "If someone prays for patience, do you think God gives them patience? Or does He give them the opportunity to be patient?"

I'm learning to be careful what I ask for...
That is one of mine too! The past 2 years I felt very "tested" to say the least.

Dawn, I am just getting caught up with you. I actually haven't checked to see if you've started anything because I thought you would be back in Florida before you did. Have a safe trip back down and keep believing in yourself. You truly do inspire me and I hope that we can meet you on our October trip. Surely you will know where you will be by then!!
