Our Disney Vacation with Fay and the Crab Assasins - COMPLETE!! - UPDATED 9/16 - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm glad the WL was able to accomodate you.
We were at HS all day that day. The only lines we encountered were TSM, which we skipped and the Backlot tour.
I wish we had had more time, but TSM was really the reason we were there.

To be fair, they had 4 sandbags in front of each of the double doors leading into the lodge from the balcony areas. So altogether there were 12 sandbags that I saw. The car mix-up was great fun to write about I'll admit, but it wasn't funny at the time, I was in a panic, but trying not to show it.

Well, the thing is, I am the vacation planner, and I do it ALL. ANd this vacation was one hubby didn't really want to take at first, and since it was my DH and both kids first time at Disney, I was desperate to make sure that it was totally magical, with no big issues. THe car would have been a huge issue, and so I actually didn't even tell hubby exactly what was going on until I had fixed the situation! Unfortunatley Fay was more than a Damper, for us and for lots of other families! But the trip did end on a high note, so stay tuned!
Glad you were able to upgrade the rental with only minimal hassle. I know what you mean about spoiling yourself with WL. We won't be back for probably 3 more years but I have no idea how we can stay anywhere else. And I am really wanting to quit my part-time job that paid for that pricey little resort upgrade. Maybe Jay is sufficiently hooked to consider forking over the extra $$$ next time.
Looking forward to hearing about the drive to Vero Beach, I hope the weather didn't cause too many problems with the trip over. Can't wait to see your pictures since we've never been there!
So we are now on our Way to Vero in our Dodge SUV!
It is raining, of course, but we have good directions and the first bit is rolling by no worries. So to make the time go faster while you travel with us, I will tell you a couple of good tidbits that happened at WDW but I am not sure where they fit chronologically. O.K. When we were taking the boat from WL to MK one of the many times we had a very unique driver. Maybe you have had him also, here is the schpeil he gave us . .
" Good evening everyone we are glad you are with us on the (insert name of boat) tonight. We will be making our way to the MK and we ask that you remain seated and keep all hands, arms, legs, and children in the boat at all times. The water is getting a little choppy, but I want you to know right now that if this boat should begin to sink, I will not be going down with it. I am a Pilot, not a captain, and I urge you to take ahold of one of the life vests under your seat, and I look forward to seeing you on the nearest shore!" No kidding that is what he said!! LOL Then when we saw another boat nearby, he had us yell on the count of three "OUR BOAT'S BETTER THAN YOUR BOAT!" That was too funny. Then when we were waiting to dock, he said . .
" Well, folks, If you have enjoyed riding with us tonight, my name is Steve and I wish a magical evening, and for those of you who did not enjoy any part of this ride, my name is really Frank."
OK, we are turning onto I-95 now, only a little over an hour to go to Vero, still raining and dark. But that ok, we will just talk about another memory from WDW. . . Before we left, and I must say, on the advice of all of you, we made Mousekeeping envelopes. One for each day. My kids decorated them with stickers and hand drawn pictures, and each one said "Thanks for keeping us clean" or " We are so thankful for your magical touch!" etc. So each day we left 5 dollars in one of the envelopes. Each day when we returned to room 5021 we had a new towel buddy. The kids loved this. We got a ladybug, a bunny, a bear, and on the last day, we got an intertube like thing with a bow, and all the plushies and towel buddys were in the "boat" watching TV. I had sort of expected to get some of these, but what was really funny, and I didn't notice, until my DH pointed it out. We also got some HIDDEN MICKEYS left in our room.. One day hubbys contact case was placed on top of my moisturizor jar, (these were normally kept on opposite sides of the double sink) it was Mickey! Then on the table cans of pop and a round tin of peanuts made mickey etc. Too funny! So we started leaving our own mickeys, with a quarter and two nickels on the sink by the envelope!!! It was really fun!
Well, folks, now we are still on 95 and the rain is washing over the highway, and we see ahead of us, two huge trucks loaded with pumps and hoses. F.E.M.A. trucks. Then we see another truck, this time loaded with Port a Potties. Oh my, that can't be good. Traffic slows to about 40 Mph. Oh great, DS11 has to use the bathroom. Hold on folks for a pit stop. There is a rest stop a couple miles up the sign says, we will stop there. There is rain and waves of water running over the road, visibility is very bad, so everyone be quiet till we get there ok. O.K. everybody out. Yes, that means you, everyone goes even if you don't think you have to! We come out of the bathroo and the rain is even more intense and we notice that everything behind this building is flooded. Totally flooded like a lake only you can tell it isn't supposed to be there. We better wait a few minutes. It starts to calm down a little, so everybody make a mad dash to the car! Back on the road. Soon we are headed through Melboarne. The road is covered, the ditches are full you can not tell where the road is , which is why we begin seeing cars half submerged in the ditches !!! This was the worst part. John is a great driver, and he really kept his cool. I did on the outside, but inside I was a wreck! I occupy the kids by looking at the housing developements which are totally flooded, and we say prayers for the folks who live there. Finally we can see the road again. And now this is our turn to get to Highway 1. ON highway one now and it is as flooded as the other highway. OH my, except the center line is visible. But soon the road improves, and the rain tapers off a bit. We head over the bridge to the barrier islands. I can see why this bridge might close, the first half of the bridge is flat, if the wind were much stronger the water would wash over it in waves. The second part is big and tall. Then like a light in the Dark we finally see it.
Disney's Vero Beach Resort
Thank goodness. We are here! It is dark and still raining, it is 3:30 in the afternoon, but we are here. We are told to check in before taking luggage out of car. Oh, right, beach house. Got it. So we check in and even though we were told that we would have oceanview, with a seperate bedroom, we were given an OceanFRONT room in beach house #15. I will show you the room in a little while, I promise. It is a great room with a full bathroom conected to the main room and a jacuzzi room with a sink and vanity and mirror and big jacuzzi connected to the king bedroom. The bedroom has sliding doors to the large half circle balcony, as does the main room. The balcony had a table and four chairs, and room to move. The ocean is so close I could hit it with my 7 iron. (That would have been scary last night) So we then call for bellman for our luggage, and find that the evevator is not working, we are told that until 20 minutes before our arrival they were without electricity. Two bellwomen come and help us carry six suitcases up to the third floor, from the basement, in the rain!!! Tips all around!! Nice kitchen, huge fridge, decsent coffeemaker, dishes, etc. Great. Then I find, the thing I wish I had known about last night. THE WASHER AND DRYER IN OUR ROOM!!! OH man, could have saved myself, time, money, and detergent!! They provided soap for clothes and dishes! Cool. Bonus #2 we find out we can use our mugs here! Way cool. Ok. so even though it is wet, and dark, we have a great room, the danger is over, and we are still on vacation. Not too bad. Now about dinner . . .
That sounds like quite the adventure you had on the drive over. I love how you kept us entertained by telling some stories. That was so cute about the mousekeeper leaving hidden mickeys. Never thought to look for that! I think it's cool that it's your husband that first noticed them - a sign of a true Disney fan indeed! Looking forward to seeing pictures of your room. It sounds like the staff went above and beyond to get you settled in, considering the weather conditions.

Your comment about all the trucks on the highway gave me a flashback to our trip home from Disney on the 19th. We were on 95 and we saw AT LEAST 30 utility trucks all heading south. I forgot to include it in my trip report though.
Whew, rough drive!- Glad you guys made it safely!
Sounds like a great room!
Thanks, and it was a really great room, pictures should be on the way in a few minutes.

Well, shucks, glad you enjoyed the stories on the way. That was actually my sons idea! He said I forgot to put them in earlier. I will always look for the hidden Mickeys in the room now. It was really fun to play around with our mousekeeper, we had the same one all week, and she was great. DH is truly a Disney fan now, as you will read about later.

Yep, you know what I mean don't you! Except in our case, we were headed the SAME WAY as those trucks!! But now it is just a wild memory .

Oooohh, now I have to go to Vero beach, too!! All you PPer's keep me dreaming . So glad you got there safely! And, how sweet to teach your kids to pray for those going through hard times! (We say a prayer every time we hear a siren).
Hopefully the rain will clear up for you so you can get some beach time!

It was a great room, and I wish I had more Pictures of it. But alas, we were living in the moment and didn't take that many inside. It was a really nice jacuzzie tub with a "Window" that looked into the Master bedroom. The window had shutters, very cool. we spend some quality time there, but have no pics.

I would recomend Disney's vero Beach resort, no question about it. But I recomend you NOT go during hurricane season!
