As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). You fared pretty well for someone who was "wasted"... Glad you were able to find your way to DTD and get some food in you to absorb some of the alcohol. Those creme brulees look pretty big.... I think there's enough in one for two people to share.
Now that my fellow ELC charter members had gone their respective ways, I had to make my own way out of Epcot and to Downtown Disney to meet up with the fam damily. Easier said than done. I was still working on what was left of my share of the margarita in my customized ELC glass, so I slooowly walked and slurped my way to the front of the park. Emphasis on the slooowly. I was most definitely in an alcohol-induced daze as I weaved my way around the World Showcase Lagoon, taking in all the gorgeous decorations in the twilighty-dusky light. Feeling the way I was (drunk), most sensible people would have politely disposed of the remaining margarita (as in, “No, I couldn’t possibly finish this, I’ve certainly had more than my fair share for the evening”)…but I’m not a quitter (or a sensible person). : The damage had already been done, might as well finish the job. I paused near the Fountain of Nations and practically stuck my entire head in the bowl of the margarita glass trying to get the last bit of deliciousness out of the bottom before sticking the glass back in its bag. I could almost hear the voices of small children saying, “Mom, look at that girl!” See, this is why I shouldn’t have hard liquor.
Too, too funny! Personally, I think it's only appropriate that you muscled your way through to the bottom of that margarita glass -- we would've had to rescind your ELC membership otherwise!
And I cannot properly express how tickled I am by the vision of you laying down on the bench like a homeless Disney vacationer! I'm going to pretend that you did and laugh and laugh and laugh!

Holiday Hootennanies with Scarlett and the Fam Damily! Day Two, Part 1, Updated 3/14!
I slept like a rock, although I did have to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. I’m totally disoriented when I wake up in my own house, so no surprise that I tripped over a chair and landed with a thump in the little kitchen area of our studio. I must’ve not made enough noise to wake the parentals, though, as no one checked on my well-being. Luckily, I was fine (besides a little carpet burn) and made it safely back to bed for some more shut-eye.
As soon as I had set the wakeup call the night before, I was looking forward to 6:30 am, when Mickey would call. Ahh, to be awoken by my beloved mouse instead of the rage-inducing BEEPBEEPBEEP of the alarm clock at home. So imagine my irrational anger when at 6:10 am, my sweet dreams were abruptly disturbed by that distinctive BEEPBEEPBEEP. Once I came to grips with what was happening (it always takes me a moment), the BEEPBEEPBEEPs drowned out my cursing and I flailed around like a crazy person trying to hit the right button on the alarm clock. I couldn’t find it and couldn’t find it, so finally I just jerked the thing out of the wall. Exhausted, I collapsed back in bed, panting and with adrenaline pumping through my veins (the standard alarm clock noise makes me very nervous – I don’t know why). No way I was going to be able to go back to sleep for 17 more minutes, so I just lay there, wide awake and awaited Mickey’s call. I guess Mama was thinking the same thing, as she went ahead and got up and headed to the bathroom.
All I can figure is the moron that had our room before us reset the alarm the morning he left – I hope by accident. Either way, I’d like to find him and give him a few choice words. Actually, no, I’d like to sneak into his house on a Friday night and set the alarm to go off at 6:10 the next morning. Muwahahaha.
Of course, Dad slept through the whole thing.
When the phone rang at 6:30, the upside of the situation was that I was able to listen to Mickey’s “up and at ‘em, pal!” with a clear mind, whereas I’m usually still in that half-asleep daze. I realized then that I still had about another thirty minutes until my turn for the bathroom, as that wake-up call was really more for Mama and Dad. I was able to drift back to sleep for a few minutes before Mama announced that she and Dad were done with their showers and I took over the bathroom.
I had unpacked all my toiletries the night before, so all my stuff was already in the shower, and I was in and out of the bathroom within fifteen minutes. This was also when I realized that I had forgotten my mini-bath poofy, and those hotel washcloths just don’t lather up like a bath poofy does. : I made a mental note to check several shops throughout the day to see if I could find one.
After I had robed and opened the bathroom door to let the steam out, I went to use the in-room hair dryer, but it didn’t work. Luckily, I had brought my travel hair dryer, so I set that up in the kitchen area. I always sit on the floor while I dry my hair, and the carpet in the hallway was more comfortable than the hard tile in the bathroom, so this worked out better anyway. We later discovered that it was really the outlet that didn’t work, as Mama got the Disney hairdryer to work when she switched outlets.
I wasn’t hurrying with getting dressed (although I was excited about wearing the vintage Fantasia t-shirt I had picked up on sale at the Disney Store!), but we were all ready to go a little earlier than planned, so we headed out to the courtyard area to wait on the Millers. I was shocked to see Jeff across the building heading out of his room at the same time! Krista’s strongest virtue isn’t exactly being on time (much less early), and it can be a challenge getting two kids ready on vacation, so I was surprised to see her and the girls waiting down below already. As we walked down the steps, I hollered to Krista, “Did your alarm clock take it upon itself to wait you up twenty minutes early, too??” No, they just had the Disney jitters.
It was about 8:00 am, and the Magic Kingdom opened at 9:00 am, so we definitely had plenty of time. We kind of kicked around the idea of going over to Good’s for Mama, Dad and I to get some breakfast (the Millers had those donuts Krista had picked up the night before), but I had something else in mind for my morning meal – French Toast Loaf at the Main Street Bakery. I have been drooling over pictures of this from mattnkatsmum’s TR since forever ago, and I was determined to start my morning, and vacation, off right with a gabillion calories of sugary yumminess. Therefore, we decided to just go ahead and head to the buses and to the MK.
We caught a Magic Kingdom bus immediately and it was at least half empty.
At 8:20 am, we were being dropped off at the Magic Kingdom. This is the earliest I’ve ever been to a park prior to opening, and as we strolled up to the entrance, I noticed quite a few other folks there as well. It wasn’t a large crowd by any means, but just more than I expected (with the time of year and the time of morning, I was expecting maybe three people. There were around thirty or so). Krista sent Jeff and Dad through the bagless entrance with the girls and their strollers while the ladies got their bags checked in a very timely matter (yes, Mackenzie is 9 (!) and still riding around WDW in an umbrella stroller For the record, she doesn’t ever use a stroller in her every-day life – I guess Krista just figures that as long as she small enough to fit in it [which, at her rate, will probably mean she’ll be in it when she’s 16], the less whining she has to hear). A cast member gave the kids Mickey stickers on our way up to the stand near the gates.
Having so much down-time before park opening gave us a chance to get some great pictures, as well as let the Photopass folks earn their salary.

The closer to 9:00 it became, the more folks starting showing up. Now, y’all know that one of my favorite things to do at WDW is people watch. I have previously stated that the DME line is a great place to do this. I have now discovered that the area outside of a park’s entrance prior to opening is also a fantastic people-watching venue. I got to hear the clueless guests debate whether or not they will visit Tower of Terror first (more rage inducing than the BEEPBEEPBEEP of the alarm ), listen to parents begin their lecture of “No whining, no complaining, no ice cream until after lunch”, etc. I watched Cast Members accost children who were running along the wall in front of the train station.
Most awesomely, though, I observed a couple begin their morning stretches. Now I’m not talking about a little knuckle cracking or even toe-touching. I’m talking all-out, getting ready to run a marathon, stay outta my way stretching. Calf-stretching by pushing up against that previously-mentioned wall. Sitting on the ground, facing each other, locking hands and pulling for resistance training. Rotating shoulders. Running in place. This went on for a good twenty minutes. I wasn’t sure if I should giggle or follow their lead – I totally know how sore I am after a day of hard park touring. Since y’all have gotten to know me pretty well by now, I’ll let you guess which one I did --- but actually, it was quite impressive how serious these folks took their park touring. No one wants to pull a hammy trying to book it to Space Mountain. :
Finally, it was time for the good morning show to start. I have never seen this show in person. I know! I have been to the MK before opening before, but only on EMH days, when I guess they don’t do the show. All other early arrivals, I seem to juuuust miss it. Not today, though! Yay!
Some of you may remember on our last trip, Jeff got goosebumps during the opening ceremony of the Magic Kingdom. Krista and I about lost it laughing at him, to which he huffed, “What?! I’m all into it, and y’all are just like, ‘WHATEVER.’” Well, today, with the added magic of the Good Morning show, Jeff’s chills totally returned, and Krista caught my eye and pointed at Jeff’s goosebump-y arms. I’m amazed we were able to keep our giggles to a minimum, as Jeff never knew we were poking fun at him. Seriously, I love how “into it” he gets, and so does Krista (it’s nice to know we’re not the only ones!) – we just kid because we love.
As soon as the gates opened, we began our walk down a squeaky clean Main Street. You just can’t put into words those first few moments in a Disney park early in the morning. Everything looks so shiny and perfect, Cast Members are happy and waving, you’re step is lighter than usual and in beat to the ingeniously orchestrated music -- it just doesn’t get any better!
We had previously decided that Mama, Dad and I would first have breakfast at the Main Street Bakery, while the Millers were going to rack up Photopass pictures and head into Fantasyland. Promising to catch up with them after getting some food, we took a right into the bakery and only had to wait behind just a few folks --- just enough time to decide what we wanted. Of course, my mind was already made up. Mama settled on a plain croissant and chocolate milk, and Dad chose the egg, ham and cheese croissant and plain milk. I picked up Diet Coke to go along with my French Toast Loaf and soon we were parting with three snack credits (I bought the drinks out of pocket) and picking one of the many empty tables to enjoy our breakfast at.

Yes, that's mustard packets in that second picture. Dad puts mustard on everything - even breakfast.
I know a lot of experts warn against wasting the morning away getting breakfast and such (and rightly so – can’t beat the short lines during that first hour!), but it was really nice to spend some time just chilling out and enjoying breakfast. I think once you’ve been multiple times, and if you’re visiting during a non-peak time, it’s worth it to stop and smell the roses more often. The Main Street Bakery is so charming, it’s a Disney experience too!
Love that Jeff gets that reaction with the opening ceremony. This coming from a chick who cried when she saw it the first time and has since been made fun of forever by her DH...
I agree about taking your time when you've been a bunch. Nothing like just "being there"!! Great update!!!!
