Me, Muffin, Katie, Megan, the Adlers and Various Resorts!, - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Too bad with the MB issues but good of the CMs at your resort to provide you a shuttle to Epcot! Looks like a good mixology seminar with some good tasting concoctions! The food bites look good as well. Nice parting gift as I got the same at mine in October.

I have mine displayed on my hutch in my dining room.

Crazy about your Magic Band! Luke and I had problems with ours last fall, but just at our first resort. It took several different CMs trying many different tricks to finally get them to work. Thanks goodness you still made your seminar because it looked really fun.

This is the first time I ever had trouble with my MB! Hopefully, it will be the last because, as you say, it is not simple to fix! The seminar was terrific!! The hosts were so fun!!
I forgot to show you guys the cool pin and water bottle I got on my tour this morning:
Day 5. November 7th. Part 3.
I caught a bus back right away but Muffin beat me there and had already put his luggage in the room. He knew I was having a problem with my band, which was magically fixed by the time I returned and all was well. We gave the bell man my luggage ticket and he said he would be right behind us to drop it off.
The first thing I did was go to the balcony to see what kind of view we had and I was delighted!! We were in room 3302 on the Sunset Savanna and we could see all kinds of animals!! It was sort of in a corner, which was very nice because we didn’t have anyone on one side of us.
I watched the animals for a bit but by the time I had the presence of mind to grab my camera, this was the only girl left:
I did wonder if this was one of the crazy ladies I fed this morning!
Instead I snapped a few pictures of our room:
This is King Pin:
He is in the lobby every day for pin trading! He was so cool!!
We were due soon at AK for our first FP, so we unpacked and went out front to catch a bus which came immediately!! This would be a trend for us all week and we definitely felt pixie dusted in this respect!!
The ride was only 5 minutes. It took longer to walk from the bus depot into AK than it did to get there!!
We headed straight to Kilimanjaro Safaris for our first FP+ today. We had a very enjoyable journey:
Next, we walked around Africa. I am so impressed with the new Harambe Market area!!
We then headed toward our second FP+ and Expedition Everest:
We still had some time, so we stopped for a Mickey pretzel and a soda to split:
Then we walked around Asia, which is so beautiful!!
We then went to the Dino Institute:
Then we headed towards Pandora. We were both so excited to see it and we would not be disappointed!!!! We stopped on the way to see a show:
We loved the path into Pandora! And it is truly stunning!! Disney did a great job with this whole area!!
We headed over to the Na’vi River Journey, which was our final FP+ of the day. I am so happy that we were able to get a FP+ for this ride because the wait time for standby was something like 130 minutes!!
I know some people poopoo this ride but we loved it!! It is simply visually stunning and the boat ride is relaxing and lovely!!
We had some time before dinner, so we went over to the Nomad Longe for a drink. We were able to sit outside as it was another beautiful night and we absolutely loved it here!!
I ordered a Night Monkey and it was delicious!!
Muffin ordered a glass of Chardonnay and he said it was very good!!
After sitting for a while and sipping our cocktails, it was time to head back to AKL for dinner. Tonight we were eating at Jiko and we were so looking forward to it as it’s been ages since we’ve been here!!
We got back to AKL around 6:30 PM and our ADR wasn’t until 7:50 so we got freshened up and checked in and then went to Victoria Falls. I love this open lounge area and how you can see into Boma from here and even better, smell the amazing aromas wafting up!!
We wound up each getting a white wine flight. It was delicious but in retrospect, we should have split it! There were very generous pours and we hadn’t eaten for sometime so we wound up leaving half of it!
Holy wine!
Our buzzer went off so we paid up and headed downstairs for dinner.
First we had some warm bread:
I had squash soup and it was delicious!
I know we sound like winos, but we had plenty of water as well and decided to order a bottle of South African Chenin Blanc. It was wonderful!
I ordered the grilled elk loin. It was okay but I don’t need to get it again. :
Muffin had Salmon and really enjoyed it:
He also had a plate of vegetables and said that he really didn’t like the spices:
All in all, it was a good meal, but not great. We were still pretty awake so we toured around a bit and then went to Zawadi Marketplace. I didn’t buy anything tonight, but I love just browsing in here!! Then we went back to the bar at Jiko for a nightcap. I had a spiked coffee drink that was to die for!! It was African pressed coffee with Amarula and a type of African Grand mariner. Muffin stuck with wine. After this, we were both feeling the effects of the wine and the long day and we went back to our room and crashed!!
I bet you felt like an expert on the Safari! Tara, you are like the energizer bunny! I would have been exhausted after Epcot Oh, and the pin and water bottle are really cool!
Looks like you had a great day at AK! I love Muffin's nonchalance on both EE and Dinosaur! Glad you enjoyed Nav'i River Journey. I was one that could take it or leave it, but it might have been because we had Cora with us and she was a little spooked by the darkness of the ride.
I love the contrast between you and Muffin in your Expedition Everest ride photo. We rode Na'vi River Journey first, and loved it. It is a classic dark ride with lots of visual appeal. I guess some folks thought it was going to be more like Flight of Passage. But I loved both as they are very different. Dinner did just look okay. We haven't eaten there in a while and I keep debating whether to add it during one of our AKL stays. Which reminds me, great view from your balcony.

Pandora was incredible! Same for me with the FPs. As much as I enjoyed both attractions, I would not stand in line for 2 hours for anything!

It was an awesome day! I honestly can never tell if Muffin likes a ride or not until afterwards. Let’s just say that I am much more expressive!

We did!. Muffin claims he liked both of those rides but you know as much as me when it comes down to it!
What a wonderful rest of the day you had and thankfully no more issues with the MagicBand - phew!
I can't wait to see Pandora for myself in January - your photos from the Na'vi River Journey are making me very excited for that.
You will not be disappointed in Pandora!!

Muffin cracks me up with rides!! He has the same expression for the last 35 years on them!! I agree that there a nice contrast between the two rides in Pandora!! We loved them both!!! I can’t tell you how disappointed we were with Jiko. . We were so looking forward to it. Maybe we just ordered the wrong stuff.
Great day at the AK and you certainly got a lot in. Quite an active ride on KS and you had so many animal sightings! So hit and miss with that attraction. Glad you enjoyed Pandora so much and NRJ as such a great addition to the park.
Your meal looked very good at Jiko, but too bad you didn't enjoy it as much as you hoped. It just depends on what you ordered. Glad you enjoyed the Chenin Blanc as one of my favorite whites. Your nightcap with the African Grand Marnier sounds great and I know I'd enjoy it as I love GM! I always go to Victoria Falls before dinner at Jiko with the views and feel of the place. One of the best lounges in WDW along with Bellevue Lounge and Mizner's. I've actually dined at Jiko 7 or 8 times and love the food, wines and service here. Quite often I sit up at the appetizer kitchen, where the bread ovens are, Great talking to the chefs and learning from them.
