Thank You Disney Movie Rewards PTR (November 16-22, 2014) - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Oh, no! I hope you can shake the flu quickly. Give yourself plenty of rest after you feel ok. I know you've got a busy life, but you want to be really well for the trip! It's usually kids who get sick or have accidents prior to a trip. This time it's both parents!
Usually we tend to wait to get sick and/or injured during trips. It will be nice if this eliminates that possibility. I will take it as easy as possible this week, while still getting ready to go.
Next week at this time we should be checked into our 1-bedroom villa at Disney's Grand Californian. We should be unpacking, or unpacked and settling in for the evening and heading off to dream of our fun start to vacation!
First of all, thank you for all of the between those and some clearly magical miracle drugs from the doctor I felt like running a marathon this morning. Don't worry I didn't. I did go out and feed the alpacas this morning and Pat and I drained their water troughs and refilled them. Although by the end of that I was a little low on energy I still felt amazingly good. I went inside at watched Bambi... I had watched Snow White, Pinocchio, Fantasia and Dumbo yesterday and I now would love to watch all the animated features in release order, but that might be a tall order. After watching Bambi I cleaned out the refrigerator, only the yucky leftovers, and then I boiled 3 dozen eggs that were pretty old to grind up to feed to the chickens. Then I watched the Bronco game. Shana and Pat cooked dinner. I still feel really good, I have a slight runny nose and an occasional cough, but otherwise feel well.
I did manage a few trip related things yesterday and today:
Yesterday I did laundry and I put socks and underwear and Hunter's Mickey hoodie in the tubs. I also put all the toiletries that I can in the tub.
I faxed in a room request today and hope that we will be fortunate enough to receive a theme-park view. I faxed the request because we will be arriving fairly late in the day and I wanted to make the request a little more personal. Without the theme-park view we will choose to skip World of Color outright. I went with the kids in 2011 and we had FP but still could not manage the crowds and it was not a good experience. In 2012 we had the theme-park view and it was great because we could watch from our room, and even though the view was distorted and not as great as in front, it was worth it not to deal with the crowds. I have heard that there is somewhere in the Grand Californian you can view from without the theme-park view, if we don't get the room with the view we will see if we can find where that is.
Here are some plans for the next few days:
Tomorrow I am going to go get my hair cut and colored. I'm very nervous because I have been going to the same lady, who I love, in Denver for 8 years. I have even continued to just go see her when we are in Denver. Well, I didn't have an opportunity, or a need to visit Denver and my roots are showing badly. I had my stylist send the color she uses and I'm hoping the lady here in town can get it right. I have seen her for mani/pedi's but never hair and I hate finding new hair stylists.
Tomorrow I also have a lady coming from town to help clip all the alpacas toe nails. We have not done this yet and it really needs to be done before we leave town.
Tuesday I have a podiatrist appointment and hopefully will be getting shots in my feet for the trip. I have my new orthotics and they are helping a lot, but I'm still getting use to them and my feet still really bother me, especially when standing for extended times.
On Tuesday, I'm also hoping my van will be finished so that I can return the rental car and get my van while I'm in town. If it's not then I will have to go back to town on Wednesday or Thursday to get my van.
As long as I don't have to go get my van on Wednesday, Shana has art class that night instead of Friday this week.
Friday I have to go to Albuquerque to pick my dad up at the airport. I'm so glad he is able to come watch all the animals and the house while we are gone.
At some point in there I have to pack, which will probably be on Thursday, when I will do laundry and pack everything possible. I'm hoping Saturday will be cleaning up the house and the last minute stuff and then heading to bed early for our early start on Sunday morning.

getting everything done over the next few days....
I am feeling great. Only last night realized I could not fall asleep easily, but I still managed to get a good nights sleep. It's going to be a bit crazy this week, but the kids have a light school work load and we should be able to get everything done.

So glad you are feeling so much better. Did he put you on Tamiflu?
You will get it all done. It looks like you have a good game plan. Yay for your trip!
I should be able to manage to get everything done. Getting over the flu will help immensely. The doctor actually put me on Methylprednisolone and Levofloxicin. I'm allergic to Tamiflu and the flu shot.

Hope you get everything you need done before it's time to go!
Pixies for your room request to come through for the theme park view!
Did I tell you that my stylist up and quit a few weeks ago? I have to see someone else from the salon in a couple weeks and I'm a bit nervous, so I get how you are feeling about seeing a different person. I hope you get the theme park view, if not, I'm sure the hotel can tell you where to go and watch it from.

I'm sure it was all the pixies and the meds had nothing to do with it.
I am sure I will get things done, although I am starting to feel the crunch.
I hope the request comes through. It really helped the kids be able to enjoy WoC without meltdowns.

Sleep? What's that? Just kidding. I have a little bit of a hard time falling to sleep right at first and I do feel like I'm climbing the walls at times. But it is so worth it to not be sick going on vacation.

No, you didn't tell me that. I feel for you. I will share my experience in a post in a few minutes. Not bad, but I feel like I'm starting over. I hope we get the theme-park view, we will have two evenings where we will be back in the room and could see WoC from the room, but I'd be fine if we can find any location to view it without meltdowns. The kids absolutely love the show.
Well, technically since it is so late it's more like 4 1/2, but who's counting? :roll eyes:
Yesterday, I got my hair done with the new lady. I really like her and I love that she is in town and heck she is cheaper than my lady in Denver. But she did things differently, which isn't necessarily bad, but I don't handle change well. The cut turned out fine, it was really just a trim and some layers so nothing major. The color turned out redder than I really wanted. I'm okay with that, but that is what my stylist and I have been tweaking for years and I love that when I go to her it is the right color. She mixes a red/copper color and adds some brown to it and it just works. So, here is the result:
It will be curly for the trip, because I'm too lazy to waste time straightening my own hair, it is too darn thick!! That is my other thing is my stylist in Denver gets it really straight and I found this to be a bit frizzy.
Yesterday, we also had the lady from the alpaca farm near us make the hour long trek to come help me with the first experience trimming our alpaca's toenails. For those that may not have seen pictures of our alpacas in my last TR, and because this PTR has a serious lack of pictures, here are pics of our alpacas:
This is Dona, today is her birthday! She is 17 years old! We put her coat on her tonight because it's going to be cold tonight and she is doesn't have as much fleece, due to her age.
This is Sonora, she reminds me of an antelope and is absolutely beautiful.
This is Zianna. She is a little too friendly, and loves to be petted, but she gets a little excited and is a little confused and wants to hump things. So, we only pet her a little now.
This is Apollo, he is our spitter. He loves treats and doesn't like anyone else to have any, so he spits at them and sometimes gets us.
This is Prospero, he's our big boy. He is taller than all the others.
This is Tutupaca, he's the smallest of the boys. I love his tufts in his ears.
This is Orion, he is the friendliest of the boys.
And this is our Alpaca Parade we have every morning when we go out to feed the boys.
And this is what the boys do until we come out and feed them. They stand there and stare at the house.
Yesterday I also finally dug out our "Disney stuff tub" and then it proceeded to throw up all over my desk:
The kids and I went through and figured out what stuff we needed to bring and what was staying. Now it's sitting on a corner of my desk and I'm adding things to the pile as the days go. This is very odd for me to be so disorganized, but I'm going with it and it seems to be working.
After that I went through and took pictures on my iPhone of all of our pin collections. I do this because we often trade and come home with a bunch of pins we already have. By taking the pictures I can check in the room in the evening and see if we already have them and stick them back on a lanyard to trade again.
Today I went to Clovis to see my podiatrist, I was hoping to be able to get shots in my feet to help with the trip. But because I'm already on the steroids for the flu, I can't have them. But I would rather have sore feet than have the flu on vacation. I have my orthotics and those are helping a lot, and I'm going to try to buy some better tennis shoes on Friday while in Albuquerque, and I think that will help. The orthotics work really well in my Klogs, but I think my tennis shoes are too soft where they need to be more firm.
I was hoping my van would be ready to pick up today, but it wasn't going to be ready until either late today or early tomorrow. So, I drove the rental car home and we will have to make another trip to town tomorrow to get my car. That means that Shana will not be able to go to art class tomorrow night. But we will make it up in December.
I still feel like I have so much to do, but I'm not really feeling rushed, just busy. I just hope everything falls into place. Just 5 more and we are on our way!
I think your hair looks great! I've had the same person cut my hair for 20 years now and have a panic attack just thinking about having to change. I can count on her to have it always look exactly the same-- no changes at all, ever. I like to not think about my hair. I just wash and go, no need for a hair dryer or products. Looks like you're making progress with the trip preparations.
Now the important stuff..... The Alpacas!! I love them all. They're all beautiful and charming, but I'd have to agree that Sonora is gorgeous and elegant. I think Tutapaca is just adorable. Is it hard to do their nails? How often do you need to do them? I love the shot of the boys waiting for breakfast. What a great sight first thing in the morning.
