The “Hurt So Good” TR or How You Can Feel Bad and Still Feel Good - UPDATED 10/17 COMPLETE!! - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Getting caught up tonight on your TR. I have been so excited as I read and saw your pictures of MNSSHP. First off your fairies are the best Silvermist and Tinker Bell. And I guess I'll be holding Stefanie's wings quite a bit. The parade looks totally incredible! Can't wait to see it live. I really want to get the picture of Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs with us as well. But I'm disappointed that there was not a PP photographer. But you got some other great PP photos!
Your next day at the pool and Epcot looks great, too. We really like Sunshine Seasons, too. Sorry your cough has returned.
What a nice relaxing day, glad the girls enjoyed some swimming, I love Ol' Man Island and I have to admit that the slide is pretty addicting, the girls got me on it once and we ended up doing it all morning. Sorry that your cough started bothering you, I hope it ends up just being an allergy and goes away quickly. Sounds like a great lunch at SS - we had never eaten there up to this trip (excpet for dessert) and it really is a nice place to eat. Your lunch sounded yummy and a great filling meal before some fun in FW. Can't wait to hear all about your evening at DTD.
Did I mention that we love to take the boat from POR to Downtown Disney? It’s one of our favorite things to do and one of the reasons we like to stay at Riverside.
We got off at the Main bus stop and walked through the lobby to the dock. One water taxi was just taking off, but by the time we got down the ramp another was pulling in to dock. We waited a bit while the captain tied off.
The first stop is always POFQ, where they drop off guests going to FQ or pick up FQ guests going to DTD. Port Orleans guests can use either pool they like – and many people like the Mardi Gras dragon pool at FQ. I always try to get a good photo of it, but I’m always too low to get a good shot.
The newly remodeled Treehouse Villas are next. I would love to stay in one someday… (They have their own dock.)
You also pass Saratoga Springs – another gorgeous resort. I didn’t take any photos of it this trip.
Our captain obviously loved her job (she had worked for Disney for 20 yrs. before retiring to operate the water taxis – how’s that for retirement?!) We love to hear stories about the wildlife found on the Sassagoula River and all the Disney trivia that goes with it.
One of the most common questions is : Are there any alligators? The answer always depends on which captain you ask! Our captain told us a story about her supervisor, who noticed the water levels in the river and canals were dropping last year. He went out to check the intake valve and found a golf ball lodged inside. This year, the water levels began dropping again and he headed out expecting to find another golf ball. Instead, he found a six foot ‘gator blocking the pipe!
I love the view of DTD as you approach from down river. It’s even more impressive in the evening when it’s dark outside.
As soon as we docked, we made note of the time (our ADR was at 6:10pm) and took off to do some shopping! Our first stop was Pin Traders – and we spent an inordinate amount of time there.
The girls were already hooked on pin trading – and this huge selection of pins was overwhelming. I asked a CM if they had any ‘military Mickey’ pins – I thought it would be perfect if I could find a Marine Corps Mickey for my DiL and myself. He told me he had no knowledge of any of those types of pins.
We were also searching for an Alice pin – the only thing Alexa requested we bring home to her. We had seen one the first night we arrived at our resort but didn’t buy it, thinking we’d have a better selection at the parks. But so far, we hadn’t found a single one! No luck here, either.
World of Disney – I think I’d need several days to finish shopping there! We had a few items on our list of things to get – and hundreds more we just wanted to buy. I looked at the photo frames; we looked at things for Kevin’s two granddaughters, and searched for a birthday present for my new DiL, Rachael. As it was getting late, one of us would say, “Okay – we need to get going,” and then we’d walk a few steps and say, “Oooh, look at this!” and then repeat this scenario over and over. Eventually we decided to stop back after dinner and make our final selections.
We took very few photos this evening (can you tell we were pretty focused on shopping?) Even Kevin, who tends to snap photos when he doesn’t have anything else to do, was intent on the stores. (We never did go in and look around at T. Rex.)
We browsed and shopped all the way down to Bongo’s Cuban Café when Cory announced the need for a bathroom break – and that’s when we discovered we needed to be checking in for our ADR in about 5 minutes! Back we went at a fast pace to Raglan Road.
Raglan Road was the only repeat dining we had this trip – Kevin’s only request as he had really enjoyed our last dinner there. We checked in and I asked if we could have a snug and that we wouldn’t mind waiting a bit, but it was okay if they couldn’t arrange it. We waited about 15 – 20 min. for our table; it wasn’t a snug, and we were seated in the back, but we were so hungry, we really didn’t care.
The place was really crowded this evening – and our server was very busy, but she did take time to answer Kelley’s questions in detail about a pasta dish. The menu had changed and they no longer were serving the Serious Sirloin Kevin had his heart set on ordering – he was very disappointed. All of us chose the fish and chips except for Kelley, who ordered bangers and mash.
I had always wanted to see the band Tuskar Rock that plays there every evening. Generally, we eat too early and are gone before they start, but because it took so long for our food to be served, I was granted my wish and we heard them begin their first set as we were ordering dessert! They were absolutely brilliant!
After dessert was served (Cory had a birthday sundae with caramel sauce, Kevin another apple pie-thing, and Cory and I Ger’s Bread & Butter Pudding,) we heard the clogging of an Irish dancer – and I stood up to see Danielle dancing away on their stage! By the time I made it through the tables and up to the front with the camera, she was finished. Notice we also didn’t take photos here – can you say ‘caught up in the moment?’ Good food, good music, family and laughter – sometimes you just gotta be there and enjoy it. (This was the only photo we took in Raglan Road.)
I could tell the night was just beginning – lots of the younger crowd were coming in and I really wanted to stay and have fun with them…(time to plan an adults-only trip, too, I think! ) But it was getting late and we needed to stop back at WoD and make our purchases.
I finally settled on a large wall collage photo frame; we called Kevin’s DD to find out sizes for his DGDs Emma and Abby and see which fairy was Emma’s favorite. (She said ‘Silvermist’ which made her Aunt Kelley very happy!) Kelley went back and bought a pin she had been eyeing before dinner – but we didn’t select anything for my DiL.
Back on the boat to POR, we enjoyed the warm evening breeze and the lights of DTD twinkling in the distance. I felt very much like taking a stroll around the resort, but I also knew we had another early morning and a 6:00am wake-up call. We stored our purchases, the girls took showers and we jumped in bed.
The weather today was… another hot, humid day! The best thing today was…getting to hear Tuskar Rock at Raglan Road The worst thing today was…drinking too much pop at Club Cool The funniest thing today was…all the holes in my future self’s head! Today we tried…taking a day off and relaxing and the result was…we all felt a bit more rested for the next two busy days. The most magical moment today was…relaxing by the pool with the girls and laughing with my family at Raglan Road

Sounds like a relaxing day so far. Sorry that your cough seems to be returning. Hopefully it goes away. And sorry that your ride on the monorail wasn't what you were expecting.

I love just riding the monorail!
It wasn't that I didn't like it - maybe I was expecting the bullet train from Japan!

Thanks all. My cough did get better and better as the day wore on.

You all are going to love MNSSHP!! I can't wait to hear about Stefanie's reaction. Hopefully she won't mind being de-winged for a bit to ride some attractions.
I took a page from your book and scheduled in a day off - your pool days sounded so relaxing. Wish we had spent just a bit more down-time, though.

I love water slides! I'd love to take the girls to BB or TL some day...
I think my cough really was just an allergic reaction to something, as it did get better quickly.
