Living the Dream and remembering the Bagman TRIP REPORT COMPLETED IN THIS FORUM - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

It's too bad they don't change the menu more often, but I guess they leave it the same way for each itinerary I suppose. They should at least have a pool of dishes to base their menus on, which would be the way to go. At least you enjoyed it the second time around!
That is my biggest complaint about DCL - they keep menus around for YEARS! Given the number of repeat cruisers, you'd think they'd change up more. I am so tired of the Pirate Night menu, I could cry.
Thankfully I like the Pirate Menu, so I'm fine with it, but I hear you on that.

That's one thing I'm looking forward to on our next cruise - the fact that an entirely new restaurant (Carioca's) should mean lots of new menu items.
I remember we ate at Carioca's a couple of years ago, but sadly I don't remember much about it. If you get a chance to do the Wonder, do, as Tiana's Place is absolutely amazing, both food and the atmosphere. That is a great addition to the ship.
Monday 26 September – part eleven: “oh I really like that, very clever”
Once we were done, we headed back to the room to pick up our swimming gear, and off we went to the Rainforest. We picked up our scrubs, and received details of what to do with them. Essentially, you’re supposed to go into the laconium first, which is the gentle sauna to open the pores, then you have a warm shower to ensure they are open, then you head into the hamam, where you then apply the scrubs. Thank goodness there was another couple in there, as I felt so bad, as the scrub was going all over the floor. Mind you, we were only following instructions…
Once we were done with that, you then go into the caldarium to sweat it out, before washing it all off in the shower. We followed all the instructions, except we found out the next day that we totally forgot our scrubs, which were last seen sitting outside the caldarium. Oh well, we didn’t know that at the time.
It was pretty quiet in the Rainforest, and they were still selling length of cruise passes. I know this, as I could hear the sales pitch from the spa members of staff as they walked through. I found it a bit rude to be doing tours when people were using it, but I guess there’s nothing you can do about it.
We headed into the hot tub, and enjoyed just sitting there, watching the really wicked lightning in the distance. I heard one woman ooh and aah over it, saying she hadn’t seen anything like it before. I felt like saying “obviously you haven’t spent the last week in Florida then…”
We then sat on the hot stone chairs for as long as we could before we started to feel we were getting a little too hot. We were in there with one other couple, and they soon left, so we had the place to ourselves, well except for the love birds in the hot tub. Honestly – I felt like suggesting to them that cavorting like that is something best saved for your room, as we did not want to see it.
We headed out after about an hour or so, and I did ask on the way out since when alcohol was allowed in the spa, as we’d seen quite a few people in there drinking. I was really shocked to be told that provided they didn’t have glass, then it was Ok. I don’t think I’ve ever come across a spa that allows alcohol in it, as the two things do not mix well.
We dropped our bits back at the room, and this was our towel animal for the night:
I suggested we could go shopping, as everyone would be in either the late dining sitting or the show, so it would be nice and quiet. On the way there, Mark spotted Captain Mickey. I immediately said they’d cut the line, but he was determined to check it out. Guess what? They’d cut the line…
I got some photos of the deserted lobby…
… and then we made our way over to the shops…
Mark got a couple of T-shirts, but honestly, the women’s selection was not good. It seemed to all be fitted stuff, which is fine if you’re a model size and shape, but if you’re not, it just highlights the worst bits, if you know what I mean. I find it so depressing to pick up an XL and look at it and it’s more like a kid’s top. We’ve had this in Disneyland as well. What on earth are Disney thinking? Do they want to reinforce women’s body issues?
They had a big Star Wars section in one shop…
I saw this T-shirt, and said “oh I really like that, very clever” and unbeknownst to me, the woman behind me was wearing it! She said she was very relieved at what I’d said!
I don’t remember there being such a big selection of watches and jewellery on board. I guess Disney are trying to appeal to bigger spenders.
With that, we made our way back to our room, and after discovering the choice of TV channels was not exactly great, shall we say (we really did not want to watch the US Presidential debate, let’s just put it that way… ), we retired gracefully to bed…
The weather today was hot and sunny with temperatures in the mid 90s. The best thing today was boarding the Dream and sailing away. The worst thing today was Frozen Ever After being down again and not being able to ride it. Today we tried breakfast at the Garden Grill for the first time since they brought it back And the result was we weren’t overly impressed. The most magical moment today was sitting on the hot stone chairs, having the Rainforest almost to ourselves.
Alcohol in the spa? Well that is new! If you forgot your scrubs at one point, imagine just what else you would forget. But you wouldn't leave your drink behind as you went from room to room!
Good call on shopping. I love to do that when nobody else is there! That is indeed a very clever shirt. I'd wear it!

The spa sounds so relaxing, other than the inappropriately public hot tub display. Should've let them know they can book a couples treatment room and have a private hot tub.
I agree, I've never seen a spa that allows alcohol. I suppose when something awful happens due to stupidity wit that, DCL will change the policy.
I hate the sizing of clothes at Disney!

Oh my goodness, classic! I guess their answer would've been that they found a cheaper way to do things!

Ugh, me too - it's one of my pet peeves right now.
I so agree with you about the sizing of women's tops at Disney! Not only are they fitted, but they have no stretch, or else they're just tiny. Ugh!!!
What gets me is we're all saying exactly the same thing, so why aren't Disney listening? Amazingly, someone must be buying these tops, otherwise they'd change the fit of them. I'd love to meet some of the people buying the tops - I bet they're sickeningly thin.
A nice way to end your day with some relaxing time in the spa! The love birds have no common sense as they think no one is around or they think everyone wants to see their exhibition!

Sounds like a pretty good start to the cruise. It's weird that alcohol would be allowed in the spa. And sorry about the selection in the shops . Looking forward to hearing about your first full day on the ship!

I think you're right - they probably do think everyone wants to see. No thanks!
