Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Seaworld
How many hours do you really need? The day we will be going they will be open for 13 hours. Is this too much?

Yes. We were there this summer, and the park was open from 9-11. We arrived at 9 to find only shops and eateries open. Shows and attractions didn't begin until 11. I wish they would tell you that, we could have slept in. We stayed until about 10pm or so. The shows were scheduled at the same times, so you really couldn't see more than 3 or 4 in that amount of time. They had some others we'd really have enjoyed, and we saw everything else several times over. Both of the rides were closed most of the afternoon. We probably won't go to Seaworld again. The shows we did see were pretty good. There was one with dolfins, acrobats, and birds that was fabulous. We saw the fireworks on the way out, and they were good, but not on par with Disney.

Sea World was such a waste. It's just a glorified aquarium. If you have an aquarium around you, you'll be shocked to see the same things here, for $55. We arrived at around 2:00, and left at 4:00. It was a big waste of time and money. If you didn't buy the tickets yet, I would skip it!

We got there around 11am the day we went in March . . . DH rode the 2 rides in about 30 minutes total (that's waiting in line and everything). We saw the Shamu Show, shopped (for quite some time), ate lunch, played a few games, looked around at different things, spent quite a bit of time in with the penguins and sharks and were leaving the parking lot by 5pm. We also had to wait about 5-10 minutes for the parking lot tram to pick us up!
We had free tickets to the park, thanks to the Anheuser-Busch "Salute to Heroes", otherwise, we would have skipped it!

We liked Sea World - but it didn't fill up the whole day. We were done by around 2 or 3 p.m. I think Sea World is much better than the Living Seas at Epcot. We love the shows! And Kraken is worth the price of admission!

I don't think you need 13 hours (even if you plan on seeing every show and riding every ride). You do need to plan your day a little bit more here (IMO) as far as the shows go. That can be a little challenging. Most of the rides are roller-coaster type rides and we didn't do any of them (my kids were 5, 6, and 9).

I just returned from my trip yesterday and I spent a day at Sea World, but then I love it. I love to wander around and really just take time to watch the different things. I used to live in Seattle and they have an awesome aquarium, but I don't consider Sea World a normal aquarium.
That being said, I arrived at 9am and left by 7pm. I wouldn't normally have been there quite this long, but I did the Beluga Interaction Program which took up 90 minutes of my early evening - a wonderful experience which I'll include in my trip report!
If you and/or your family like to take it easy and really take time to enjoy petting/feeding the stingrays and dolphins, watching the shows and doing just a couple of rides you might enjoy it. I would highly recommend you check out the website and see if there are enough things that you all really want to do ( http://www.seaworld.com/seaworld/fla/default.aspx). |

We went to Seaworld the same day we did our Discovery Cove experience. (Tickets for Seaworld were included in the DC price). We went into Seaworld around 3 and stayed till about 8. We rode Krakken, saw the penguins, saw Clyde and Seymore the seals, the whales, and went to Shamu Rocks America that night. We did pretty much everything we found to be interesting in our little time there. I, however, am not sure how I feel about Seaword... I felt bad for some of the animals. I kept making Andy reassure me that the animals were safe and happy...but something about watching the whales in the tank in the watching area, made me sad. We probably won't go back again.

Jack and I felt the same way about the animals at Seaworld when we went. We were particularly upset about Shamu and friends (they were very agitated the night we went, and it appeared the trainers were having some difficulty) and the dolphin feeding experience. People weren't treating the animals properly, and the staff was overwhelmed by the crowd and couldn't do anything about it.  We absolutely loved our time at Discovery Cove, and didn't feel that way about the animals there at all. We probably won't go again either. |
