Day 2
Thursday May 19th
Cast: Me and my friend Katherine
Okay, first of all I'm really sorry that this update has taken so long, but I really wanted to try to add pics to this one. But I still can't get it to work. sigh.
All right then, on with the show!
Today was our California Adventure Day. When the trip planning first got underway I was a little bit dissapointed that Katherine would not have hopper passes. But as our trip neared, I was getting really excited about the prospect of spending an entire day at DCA!!! I had never done that- just spent a few hours at a time there.
We got to DCA just a little after 10 (opening) and went to get fastpasses for Soarin' Over California. We then headed over to the back of the park to hit some of the attractions in Paradise Pier. First we hit Mullholand Madness. I had never ridden this, and to be frank, had never really wanted to. I'd ridden a "wild mouse" before at Myrtle Beach and hated it. Anyway, Katherine wanted to ride, so I thought I'd give it a chance. I'm glad I did! Turns out it was really fun!! We enjoyed it so much that we got off and got right back on again!!
From there it was Mailiboomer. When we got around the corner and Katherine saw the ride in operation she decided she just couldn't do it.So I queued up by myself. I really love this ride. There was hardly any waiting, but since they only had one tower operating
it took me a while to get on. Then when I was finally seated on the ride, they were some kind of technical difficulties that caused us to have to wait a few nerve-wracking minutes before we were lauched. The Unoffical Guide calls Mailboomer a weenie ride- well, I must be a weenie 'cause this ride makes me scream my head off!!
Next was California Screamin', and I had known ahead of time that Katherine wouldn't be riding with me- she doesn't like roller coasters that go upside down. I really didn't want to miss this one though- it's one of my favorite rides! Such a great coaster- so smooth!!
It was nearing time for our Saorin' fastpass so we grabbed some waters and headed back over to the Golden State. I was getting really excited- hard to say, but I think Soarin' is my favorite Disney ride. That or Philharmagic. Or RnR. I digress. Anyhoo, Katherine was nervous and try as I might I was unable to reassure her. After the ride though, she of course loved it
and couldn't wait to ride again. So as soon as we exited the ride we went and got more fastpasses!
After Soarin' we were getting hungry and we had decided on Ralph Brennan's in DtD for lunch. I took Katherine through the Grand Californian to get to DtD to show her how incredible it is and to pretned for a minute that I was actually staying there!!
I
that place!!! I so hope to stay there again someitme!! Katherine was impressed with the GC, especially the location. I mean you just can't beat staying right
in the park!
We got to Ralph Brennan's and were seated right away. This was my first time eating there and I really enjoyed it. I had a bbq shrimp po boy and it was yummy!!
Dh would have loved it, so I'll take him there when we go back in Oct.
with our tummies full we headed back to DCA as it was almost time to ride Soarin' again. Katherine was really excited this time since the anxiety was gone and she knew how much fun it would be. I just never tire of this ride. This time we were seated in the second row (and I do prefer the front row as you can't see people's feet hanging down in front of you) but hey! it was still great!!!
Next we were off to see Golden Dreams, but we had a few minutes before the next show was to start, so we decided to do a little bit of shopping at a hat kiosk near by. I was sure to find my Gold Ears there!! Nope, they didn't have them.
I couldn't belive I been here two days and hadn't gotten my ears yet! I did find a really cute Donald pin though!
Time for the movie so we went back to the theatre. Hardly anyone was there to see it, and I was laughing at the CM saying "please move all the way to the center(instead of the end) of the aisle so that everyone can find a seat". this was the least crowded I've ever seen DCA, but it was a thursday. I've only been on a Saturday or Sunday. Weboth enjoyed Golden Dreams and thought it was well done. And we learned a few things, too! This was my first time seeing that film because I didn't think dd would sit through it. I was really missing her, but boy is was nice not having her in tow. You know, just getting to do whatever we wanted!
We left Golden Dreams and then went on to something else that I'd always wanted to do but didn't think dd would like- the Mission Tortilla Factory tour! The tour wasn't exactly what I thought it would be- it was very brief and I needn't have worried about taking dd on it- but it was interesting just the same. And the best part? We got a hot, freshly made flour tortilla right off the press! Great treat for this bread-loving girl!
Next was It's Tough to Be a Bug. Katherine had never seen this one at WDW, and I didn't clue her in on any of the 'special effects'
Again, as we entered the theatre the CM instructed us to move all the way to the
center of the aisle. This is just the cutest show- I love it. For a long time afterward I kept singing "if all bugs were wiped off the face of the planet..."
We walked around A Bug's Land a for just a little while after the movie. I just love the theming here. The popcicle stick benches, the landscaping- so cute.
It was nearing 4:30 and we wanted to see the Alladin show so went in to the Hollywood Pictures Backlot. I had to make a stop in the little shop across from Playhouse Disney to see if by chance they had any Higglytown Heroes toys for dd. But they didn't.
I really wish they would come out with some- dd so loves the Higglytown Heroes!! Over to the Hyperion theatre for the show. We stopped for a few minutes to look at the menacing Tower of Terror and listen to the screams. Katherine was just shaking her head
there was no way she was getting on it, and I'm too scared to ride it by myself.
So it will have to wait until next time when dh is with me. We then went over to the Hyprion Theatre and they were letting people in for the show. I had seen this one before and really loved it. Again it was great and Katherine loved it,too. Also it was nice to just sit there and relax for a while.
Once the show was over we decided to see if we could get into Muppetvison 3-D. It was almost time for the park to close, but to our delight there was still one more showing!! It has been years since I had seen this one and I forgot how cute it was. I'm glad we caught it.
Well, we got out of Muppets it was about 5 'til 6 (with the park closing at 6
) but we decided to try and get
one more ride on Soarin'!!! There were people still lined up so we just couldn't resist queueing up!!
One more ride on Soarin' (in the 2nd row again) made the perfect end to a really fun day. I was really glad we had stayed there the whole day. I think we really made the most of the park, and I was excited that I gotten to do some new things! Of course, we didn't get to do it all, but we had a great time!!
Oh we did do some shopping in Engine Ears toys and Everything Under the Sun (since they stay open past park closing for "our convenience"
) and we both found some great things to bring back to our dds. I bought so much that I worried about how I would get it all home and we still had a full morning of shopping at DtD planned for Saturday!
We decided it was definitely time for some rest so we walked on back to the hotel. We had an 8:30 ressie for Catal and we needed some showers and some time off of our feet!
Thanks for reading!!
Up Next- Dinner at Catal and a neat surprise!!
