As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Mousefest in March in Maine
UGGGH! For two days the cats have been obsessed with something in the kitchen, and Wally has witnessed the pitter-pat of teeny-tiny feet behind the walls and in the ceiling. Today he discovered that my 70% Cocoa chocolate bar that I had been saving in the cupboard for Easter had teeny-tiny bite marks in it. An hour ago DH left for 3 weeks (for Florida no less, the jerk) and I don't think I can handle this. Do mice multiply? I'm expressly against mousetraps, but I don't want the house to be overrun with food-stealing rodentia either. I just want the cats to catch them and make them go away...none of this "Look, Mommy!" business. Once at an old apartment my brother heard me scream at something gray and fuzzy lying next to something pink and squishy. That's all I saw of it, but my brother said that Geoffie (cat) had sadistically slit open the mouse's belly, dismantled its bowels, and then just left it there. I'm living in this house by myself, I really can't handle this! Tell me it will all go away!

Re: Mousefest in March in Maine
There are "humane" traps!!! You could get a couple of those cage like traps and catch the buggers . . . then go out in the woods (like there's none of that in Maine . . . ) and let them go!!!
I don't like the real live mice either . . . I'd be freaking out just as much as you!!!
Here's some in hopes that they wisen up and go away soon!!!

Re: Mousefest in March in Maine
Thank goodness Wally discovered the teethmarks before you sunk yours into the chocolate!
Do mice multiply? Not to bum you out more than you already are, but YES they multiply. Hopefully your kitties can keep up with them. As the old saying goes "no one has 'a' mouse". Not only are mice "food-stealing" but (sorry this is gross), but they poop all over the place. It's very unsanitary. Can you tell I've had experience with this? If you won't do mousetraps, perhaps you could take Sarah's advice and use the humane traps. Good luck.

Re: Mousefest in March in Maine
We had a mouse in an apartment once. We could hear his little feet in the ceiling above us and in the morning we'd find his droppings around our pantry. We set out a trap and had him within two nights (unfortunately we chose the wrong kind of trap....but that another gory story).
Get one of those humane traps from the hardware store and set it up near where you keep the food. Once it's caught, take it far from your house and let it go. Then set it up again, in case you have a family....

Re: Mousefest in March in Maine
Rachel, they usually don't go away on their own. At least your mouse has good taste!! You could make him something with your yummy chocolate bar!
Sorry, I know this is not helpful!

Re: Mousefest in March in Maine
When it gets cold, we'd get one or two residents. That I knew of. We also live in a farm area, and we are very rural. I hate to say it, but there is no real humane way to get rid of them. The bait and release method brings them right back to you, especially when they know what you are eating. When we ripped down walls in the kitchen, we found holes and stuff from when the house was built, we knew how they were getting in (fan vent was never hooked up, was like an open door for them).
The "trails" they leave can be dangerous too, so I had to weigh the situation, our health v. humane mice removal. Health wins out every time. We have hamsters as pets too, but the mice factor makes me go ick.
I use the little packs of poison. You don't see mangled bodies that way. I could never get the spring traps loaded, so I stick with what I can use. You just have to make sure it's not in a place the kitties can get it. I have two dogs, a large black lab and small auxillary back up Cairn Terrier, so I hid the poison in various spots in the kitchen out of paw and tongue reach. The lab could have cared less about the mice, and they would run right in front of him. The cairn, on the other hand, would bark at the wall for hours because she heard scratching noises. I thought I was going to have to get Doggie Paxil or something for her. The "guests" were gone in less than a week and I've not seen any footprints, claw or teeth marks and my cookies and chocolate are safe.

Re: Mousefest in March in Maine
I can sympathize with you Rachel. Our vermin infestation is ants though.
I agree, you need to get a trap. I have to tell you that I think even the gross and gory spring traps are more humane to the mouse than letting a cat "get" him. Have you ever seen a cat torture a mouse after he's caught it? :shudder:

Re: Mousefest in March in Maine
I agree with Joan... but if you go for the Decon I found the big bricks work better than the pellets. We found that the mice were storing the pellets as food supply and not really eating it... with the bricks, they take a couple of nibbles and then need to go find water... usually outside (so for the most part, they won't die in your house or behind your walls... because that smell is totally disgusting!) Goodluck... and I wouldn't wait any longer before doing something... If you have any other questions or want more suggestions you could always call an exterminator they may have better advice

Definately be careful that kitties can't get access to the poison - or that the little dying mouse does not come out and get munched on by kitty (another way to harm kitty). If you use the poison - be prepared not to see them... but smell the decomposing little bodies... UGH. I would use the spring traps and just deal. ITs either them or you. Kitties won't just eat them - unless you starve kitties to the point they are major hungry. If you are feeding them their food - they will think the little mouse is a toy - and will "play" with it accordingly.
Hope you deal with this ok...

Here's some that the mice go away and leave you alone - I suppose at least you can say they've got good taste, going for the chocolate!
