As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Roller Coaster type rides
Having been on Space Mountain several times in the past, I really do not like it. I always come off of it feeling kind of stiff. Is anyone else who does not enjoy Space Mountain able to enjoy the other roller coaster type rides? I am thinking of rock and roll coaster, Thunder Mountain railroad etc. I've never really tried the others after my experiences with Space Mountain.

Re: Roller Coaster type rides
I've done SM only once, years ago, and will never do it again! However, BTMR is one of my favorites (have to do it more than once every trip). I rode RnRC for the first time last week and opted to ride it a second time! It's quite a rush, but I feel more secure with the shoulder bars.
I'm not sure what you mean by feeling stiff. Does it make you feel so bad that it ruins whatever you do the rest of the day? If not, I say give them a try.

Re: Roller Coaster type rides
I hate to admit it, but I really do not like Space Mountain. I try it every trip ( except for the last one) and I just dont' enjoy it. I understand what you mean by feeling stiff when you get off. I love all the other roller coaster type rides though. Rock N' Rollercoaster is my favorite! I could ride that over and over. BTMRR is incredible. It's just so much fun! Don't miss the other coaster rides. You'd be missing out on so much!

Re: Roller Coaster type rides
Right off the bat I can tell you I am not a coaster guy. I think my fear of heights might have something to do with it...!
However, I have been on Space Mt. and Big Thunder (and, believe it or not, Splash Mt.).
I, too, never really liked Space Mountain, it seemed jerky and annoying. I went on it a couple of trips in a row and decided that it wasn't enjoyable at all, so I stopped riding it. I really wish I enjoyed it, it was kind of cool, but it gives me headache.
Big Thunder is much better. There are no drops to speak of, it is more of a twisty turning type of coaster. I enjoy it very much and even put my arms up in the air. However, it is a different ride if you get seated near the end of the train. Because of the length of the train and the way the track is built, the back of the train tends to get more "whipping" action when going over the little hills and such. For anyone who likes the ride but wishes it was a bit rougher or wilder, try sitting in the back. And certainly ride it once during the day and once at night, BTMRR at night is like a different ride!
Splash doesn't freak me out because there's always ground underneath me (even if it is fake ground). On a coaster I freak out because I can look down and see the ground, that doesn't happen on Splash. It is my favorite thrill ride in WDW.
Rock N Roller (this is not from personal experience, but it is my wife's fav ride)is really really really fast, the beginning is basically like being shot out of a cannon. It is over very quickly, some people say they can hardly tell when they go upside-down. Believe me, I'd be able to tell. Many people say it is a pretty smooth ride so if you don't mind the upside-down part you might like it.
I won't even discuss ToT

Re: Roller Coaster type rides
Kathy, I have 3 rides down at WDW that I do not like doing and they are #1. Space Mt., #2. Body Wars, #3. Star Tours... Everything else is FUN! Even ToT & RnR are enjoyable to me but I just can't do or enjoy the three mentioned above. The first time I rode RnR I was scared to death! Rode it holding on for dear life and with eyes closed... I lived through it and DH wanted to on on it again right away... UGHHH, well I did it again with him and this time kept my eyes open... It was FUN!
Give all the rides a try just once! You neve know you may get converted into one of those coaster nuts! Oh I can't do any of the rides that go in circles due to dizziness (DH says I was born that way... what does he know )

Re: Roller Coaster type rides
I am a big chicken! I have never been on Space Mtn. and have only been on TOT once (never again!). I have ridden Splash several times, but I always come off wishing I hadn't. I like the theming but I spend the whole ride worrying about the big drop!
Having said that, I have ridden BTM many times and enjoy it each time. There are no drops, so I can just enjoy the speed and the theming.
I have been on RnR once and I didn't get upset at going upside down because, as others have said, it goes too fast for you to really grasp your orientation. I was a little bothered by the speed of the takeoff, because I had not put my head all the way back against the supports. As a result, my head resembled a basketball for the first few seconds of the ride, bouncing back and forth against the head rest. I was a little queasy when I got off, but I think I should try it again, keeping my head all the way back for takeoff.
You can only really know if you'll like a ride if you go on it. Gather your courage and try it once (good advice coming from someone who cannot make herself get on Space Mtn!) and see. You can then enjoy it or swear off it for life!
