As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Some people\'s parents!!! (Vent warning !)
As you may know, my DD is a senior this year. Anyways, the kids in her class have been trying to arrange a senior trip over spring break to Mexico. DD and her best friend were of course excited about it. Being a parent, I was a little worried about them going. However, they would be going through a charter company that arranges trips like this and supervises them to an extent. I told DD that she could go, but she would have to pay for it. She was ok with this as she works at the mall and has been saving her money. Her best friend's mom told DD's best friend that she would pay for this trip as a graduation present to her. DD was excited as this meant that her friend could go for sure. They immediately made plans to share a room and have been talking about it all the time.
Well, Friday was the deadline for early registration. DD paid her non-refundable deposit on Wednesday, so she was all set. Friday afternoon, DD comes home from school in just a foul mood. I asked her what was wrong, and she said that her best friend's mom was no longer going to pay for the trip so her best friend could no longer go as she wouldn't be able to save up that much money in such a short time. So now my DD was stuck. She had nobody to room with and didn't want to go if her friend couldn't go. Plus she would lose $175 of what she paid down on the trip. I had to admit that I was not happy either. Why would this mom wait until the last day for registration to announce that she didn't intend to pay for the trip? It isn't just her daughter that is affected by this decision. I feel so sorry for DD's friend. She is the nicest girl and her parents treat her like crap. This girl had a car last year that they took away at a moment's notice and gave to her older sister who had an accident DRINKING and DRIVING because her car had been totalled in that accident. DD's friend has a job, but her parents wouldn't give her a ride to work even though they took her car away. DD has been giving her rides to and from work for a year now. She is a good kid--doesn't smoke, drink, do drugs or get into trouble. I can't figure out why they treat her so badly. At this rate they will turn her into a bad kid! If they didn't intend to pay for her trip, then why tell her that they would in the first place. DD scrambled around and did find somebody to stay with down there but is really upset that her friend isn't going as they do everything together. GRRR!!!! If you have some spare pixie dust, can you send it in the direction of my DD's best friend? She could use it!

Re: Some people\'s parents!!! (Vent warning !)
Oh my gosh, Vicky! That's a horrible story. How on earth could any parent do such things to their child?! I don't know how those people get a good night's sleep! I have four teenagers, who are far from perfect, but they sure know that they are loved! Unfortunately, your daughter is finding out early what the world can be like. I hope that she is connected with other families, who can also show her that everyone is not like that! Mucho to her friend for this painful experience. She sounds like a strong girl who has learned how to cope with her situation, but she's still just a kid!
Just one other thought. Do you know this girl's parents? Is there any possibility that she really wasn't allowed to go in the first place? The car story also breaks my heart. I just can't believe that anyone could be that cruel to their child for no reason at all.

Re: Some people\'s parents!!! (Vent warning !)
Unfortunately, I deal with this kind of stuff every day, and it still stinks...
Here's a lot of and for DD's friend.
If I wasn't such a nice guy, I might have to get on my or maybe visit the parents and them into shape...
Life's ugly enough sometimes, it doesn't need to start at home....

Re: Some people\'s parents!!! (Vent warning !)
Oh my goodness! That poor girl! Sounds like the parents are maybe afraid of the older sister and were taking advantage of the younger DD's good nature by taking her car away and giving it to the older girl(?) Then breaking promises to her by refusing to fund her trip....unthinkable. I hope your DD has a wonderful time regardless.

Re: Some people\'s parents!!! (Vent warning !)
That is horrible! I struggle with trying to keep things 'fair' between my two kids - I couldn't image purposely doing something like this to either one!
Pixie dust wishes for your daughter - it's a bitter lesson at any age.

Re: Some people\'s parents!!! (Vent warning !)
There is a difference in being firm and being *mean* and they certainly have crossed the line! There are some parents who actually enjoy the power trip they get when they can lord over their kids and it makes me . Here is some for your DDs friend, it seems like she has chosen the high road so far and I hope she continues to rise above her upbringing! Here's another batch of to your DD for being such a great friend and that she will be able to have a good time on the trip under the circumstances!

Poor DD's friend! That makes no sense to me about the parents treating her that way! I hope your DD still has a good time.
