As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I\'m Getting SO Excited!
I know this might seem silly, but I am BEYOND excited about the prospect of in about a month having a puppy!!
I was that little girl that begged for a puppy(a Yorkie no less)throughout my ENTIRE childhood! My mom was the "easy," parent and usually broke down to my pleading and smiling that "you are the bestest mommy ever" grin. My father on the other hand never allowed animals AT ALL. We got some fish...that was IT.
Since I didn't live with my mom part of my life and then when I did we were moving all over Europe and the U.S., we weren't stable enough for a dog.
Now I'm just reading puppy after puppy book, looking at all the things I want to get for him, looked through lists of names, it's all so exciting to me!
So I wanted to ask if any of you has any tips or advice for me? I want to make sure I'm as prepared as I can be to welcome my very first doggie!

Re: I\'m Getting SO Excited!
Amber, I've read your other posts and think that I cannot name a more responsible soon to be dog owner!
Seriously, you have love and enthusiasm and those are key staples. Dogs can be your best friend, your child, or an annoying pest that you have to feed and walk. You choose.
My DH and I have 3, and while we spend less time with them than prior to DD, we still love them and indulge them. Make sure you know about Yorkies specifcally, and get to know the breeder well so you can contact him/her with any questions. I still send a Christmas card to my Bulldog's breeder every year!
Congrats on your new family member and best wishes for a long and happy relationship!

Re: I\'m Getting SO Excited!
Make sure you have a 'home' for him/her picked out before you bring him home. DH and I hadn't thought it through that well (I had been begging for weeks and we just out of the blue decided we would go on and get one one day) and had to scramble on Daisy's first night at home. Also, try to buy from someone who has at least started potty training the dog. We have had nine kinds of trouble getting Daisy house trained (she still constantly has accidents and she is a year old). One thing that helped Daisy was that I took an old shirt and wore it one night to sleep in then gave it to her. She didn't cry nearly as much at night when she had something that smelled like me nearby (of course we finally gave in and she sleeps on the top of my pillow now ).

I've been thinking the same thing as well. I've never owned a dog, as my dad couldn't bear to have one and put it into kennels when we went on holiday, so I can't offer you any advice, but I think with your enthusiasm, you'll be in a perfect position to welcome your new addition home when the time comes!

Re: I\'m Getting SO Excited!
You certainly seem to be well prepared for your puppy Amber, good for you for trying to find out as much information as you can before buying. Please post a photo as soon as you have one, I can't wait to see him.

Re: I\'m Getting SO Excited!
Amber,
Congratulations on your new baby! I've raised several puppies through my life and here is my best advice (it's about housetraining, which is a biggie). I'm dead serious here:
When the puppy wakes up from a nap - take her outside
when the puppy finishes eating - take her outside
when the puppy finishes drinking - take her outside
when you play with the puppy for even 10 minutes - take her outside.
Seriously. After the puppy does ANYTHING, take her outside because she's a baby and will have to pee. And don't let her walk out herself, pick her up and carry her to the grass and set her down. Love on her like crazy when she pees outside. That way, she'll learn that she doesn't pee until her feet hit the grass. Don't spank her if she messes up, she won't understand that. Just catch her doing it right, praise the heck out of her, and she'll have a good chance at success. Good luck!

Re: I\'m Getting SO Excited!
Amber - cage training!
I had dogs as a kid that we were always "picking up after" in the house. As a mom with lots of kids, and a busy schedule, i couldn't do that, so I decided to cage break my dogs. We have had 2 accidents in the house, both because the dogs were very ill.
Pick out a cage that is roughly 2 times the size of the dog lying down. Make sure to take it out often. And, keep it in the cage unless you are interacting with it. Keep it in the cage while cooking, studying, etc.
It sounds cruel, but it is a lot better than getting mad at a poor little baby because you didn't notice it needed to go out.
I got both of my dogs to from a pound. There were full blooded dogs there too, you might want to check them out.
