Our Country has gone crazy!!! About This Page:

Football crazy that is, Euro 2004 is due to start on June 12th in Portugal and there are England Flags everywhere and I mean everywhere, I was driving out of our estate yesterday on the way to work and counted about 35 England flags hanging out of windows/on porches etc and I only drove down one street!

Then on the dual carriageway on my way to work nearly every car had England flags hanging out the window or on parcel shelves. The English are so patriotic when it comes to football it really means a lot to so many people. I am not really a football fan but I always watch when England are playing in big tournaments as I love the atmosphere. If we score a goal or win a match you just have to stick your head out of the window and you can hear cheering, horns hooting, people shouting it's so great . The country really seems to pull together and is very happy but if we lose uh-oh, thats another story.

Is there any sporting event in the States that seems to have such an atmosphere and the whole country seems to be backing it?

I'd probably have to say the Superbowl(football), the World Series(baseball), the Indy 500(auto racing), and probably the NBA finals(basketball). I don't get into anything sports related though. But it's great to see all the spirit!

Tell me about it! Mind you, we won 6 - 1 today... but that was against Iceland, so I'm not sure that's saying much. It'll be interesting to see what happens next weekend when we play the French - I suspect most of the country will all be watching it... what we girlies need is extended shopping hours next Sunday afternoon!

I think it's a soccer thing I know when I lived in Costa Rica, they were futbol crazy!! Over here, people just go crazy after a team wins the big title (and not always in a good way - we're talking riots and such)

Well, good luck to England's football team! DS & DH are pretty big into soccer, so I'm sure if Euro 2004 is televised here we'll be watching some of it.

Here in Canada right now everybody's on the Calgary Flames bandwagon. Cars are driving around everywhere with Flames flags hanging out the windows, signs in front of stores all say Go Flames! and even I'm watching the games on tv (and I'm no hockey fan anymore since all the expansion teams came along and hockey ends in June now ). I think it's because it's been somewhere in the neighbourhood of 10 years since a Canadian team has made it to the Stanley Cup and since so many Canadians feel hockey is "Canada's" game there's a big wave of hockey excitement here. Whatever. I'm cheering for them because somebody said that it won't warm up here until the Flames win the Cup. <Go Flames! >
