As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Can You Reserve Room Only w/ AP Discount on Disney Online?
I was wondering: When (and if) the new AP rates come out, can you reserve a room only with the intended AP rate? Is this even doable on the website?

Can You Reserve Room Only w/ AP Discount on Disney Online?
I don't know whether you can or not but I have only heard horror stories about booking discounted rooms online so I would either do it myself or thru a Disney TA (we YMJ ) for peace of mind.

Yes, we have a room only reservation currently with an AP rate. I do not believe that you can book these rooms online though. You need to call Disney direct, or go thru a travel agent like Elaine mentioned. We also used YMJ, with great success.

Re: Can You Reserve Room Only w/ AP Discount on Disney Online?
My question was not worded correctly I guess. I mean, can you reserve these AP rooms using the disney website? Without having to go through an agent or calling disney direct? I mean, is it physically possible or is there no way to do this online? I'm only referring to the AP discounted rooms. I'm assuming there is not a way?

I do not believe that you can reserve any code rates (general public code or AP code for room only) online, and you have to call Disney direct.

Marnie is correct. You can't reserve online for AP rates.

Save yourself the worry of code-watching and use a travel agent. I personally like Your Magical Journeys - especially Maureen!
No extra cost to you - they'll watch the reservation codes for you!

Re: Can You Reserve Room Only w/ AP Discount on Disney Online?
I learned a lesson about booking online on the Disney site. Once the rooms are reserved, they say they CANNOT be changed. I booked BC rooms on the Disney site and when the codes came out, I was told I could NOT apply the code rate to my reservation. I called back to try another CM, who also told me I would have to cancel this reservation and get another one with the code. There were no rooms available. He TRIED to get approval to simply apply the codes to the room I had, and to make a long story short, after 2 hours on hold, he was unsuccessful. He tried everything he could think of, but it didn't work. Just pick up the phone and call Disney or one of the travel agents who specialize in Disney trips. It will save you lots of time and trouble (not to mention the $$)!!

Re: Can You Reserve Room Only w/ AP Discount on Disney Online?
WOW, that's a surprise, and not a good one by any means. With all the research I have done, I don't recall reading that bit of info anyplace. I also priced out my rooms online for our upcoming stay at WL but decided to make the res with Disney CRO on the phone so I could ask about available discounts.
Sorry for your bad experience on this, but keep calling to see if any rooms become available. The Disney res system, from what I have learned, resets overnight so for any available rooms you are trying to get, the best time to call is first thing in the morning. If they do and you can lock up the discounted rate, you can then cancel the old res. Good luck!
Edit to original post: Your countdown timer shows 22 days remaining, this could be a problem. Packages with Disney Travel Co. have a 45 day cancellation window vs. a "room only" res with CRO which has a 5 day window. Any cancellations within those days means you lose your deposit. Have a great trip!

Re: Can You Reserve Room Only w/ AP Discount on Disney Online?
For my upcoming trip, my friend James booked us our 1 bedroom Villa at Beach Club Villas via the official Walt Disney World website. Later, when the discount codes came out for the time period for our trip, he delayed getting his rear in gear to get the codes applied. So I called the Disney Travel Company myself, posing as James (ssssh! don't tell!). James and I were instant messaging each other at the time so any personal information they would possibly ask I could get it to them lickety split. They applied the discount code I provided them. Although there was some kind of "fixing" that needed to be done on their end. I don't know what the problem was but the Disney representative was nice and courteous. It just took a LOOOOONG time for her to apply the discount code and say we were good to go. Two days later James sent me a message saying his credit card was credited with the $440 that I had saved us.
Moral of the story:
1. It is possible to apply discount codes to a reservation made online.
2. It is necessary to call the Disney reservation people to have the discount applied. Not possible via the website.
3. Highly recommend avoiding the whole booking online scenario. Save yourself some grief and go with a Disney Travel Specialist like "Your Magical Journeys", "MouseEarVacations", or "MouseForLessTravel".

Re: Can You Reserve Room Only w/ AP Discount on Disney Online?
I have learned some wonderful tips and some great money-saving advice on these boards; I'm so glad I "stop by" everyday.
It seems that there are so many different scenarios and ways in which Disney will book rooms and packages. Sometimes there doesn't ever seem to be any coordination between everyone involved, like the website, CRO, agents, etc. Everything should work for the customer whether or not you are online, on the phone, or in person making a reservation. You wouldn't expect a customer to be an auto mechanic in order to get their car fixed, now would you?

I don't know about that anymore. A lot of repair shops try to float extra charges and/or needless repairs past customers that aren't at least somewhat knowledgeable...

It's still not very ethical, though. Oh, well...what are ya gonna do? That's why we have these forums I guess.
