During your trips- any place that you ate that you won't ever return? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

During your trips- any place that you ate that you won't ever return?
We as Disney People plan our trips and we go over and over our plans for our meals. We sometimes change the times and even change the places, because we don't think it would be a good place to go.
However once you get to Disney you hope all goes well.
Plus the fact you are looking forward to all the places that you picked too.
But during your trip one of the places you did pick something doesn't go right. Either its the service or the food, or Both. After leaving the place, do you think about going back OR can you not stomach that place again?
The reason I am posting this question is because my son & I went to a place that I was really looking forward to. I had seen good reviews (not that makes my decision). It was a place that was new to me. Afterwards we both are not interested in any type of this food again, more so at Disney. Even being at home we are still not so interested in going out to any place here either.
The place I am talking about is Trattoria al Forno. I heard good things, and they make their own pasta. We both love Italian food. We left full and it wasn't until maybe an hour later my intestines didn't like it. I didn't get sick but it just did not like it...and I found out later that my son was having the same issues too. I ate maybe 1/2 of my pasta and my son ate most of his dinner. I want nothing to do with that place every again not even for breakfast. This was our last meal of our trip too.
Since we have been home, I have made a lasagna which was VERY good, but not interested in going out to an Italian place. Also the fact since I got the "bacon & egg" carbonara with shrimp- never again anywhere else will I order that!
Is there a place that you won't ever return? Please let me know and why?
Thank you for participating....

Kate in PA All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them- Walt Disney
Hey Kate, the one place we were not thrilled with was Mama Melrose. Service was very slow and inattentive, two of our meals were wrong, and the food just wasn’t very good, very heavily seasoned and over cooked. And I’m not a complainer, but I’ve had much better meals and service at the local Olive Garden, for 1/4 of the price. But generally every other meal we’ve experienced has been super!
I won't go back to Via Napoli or Tony's after absolutely terrible meals and service at both places. I don't see any reason to try them again with so many other wonderful places there. I love Tutto Italia and Tutto Gusto, so if I wan't Italian at Epcot I'm all set.

There are a couple places we won't return to. First is Hollywood and Vine because the food was terrible and we were sick later. The other we won't return to is Crystal Palace. The food was ok but the service was terrible. I won't go into the long story but will say waitstaff and even talked to the manager who was just as bad.
Never Hollywood and Vine. The food was absolutely awful. They never cleared our used plates or refilled our drinks and the restaurant shares bathrooms with 50's Prime Time. It was a complete waste of money.
Also, never Sanaa. I'm allergic to coconut and when the chef heard this he told me he would make me a special plate and I was not to touch anything else on the table. I guess they cook with a lot of coconut oil or something. What I got appeared to be a boiled chicken breast and a pile of white rice. Nothing else. No vegetables or anything. I wish he would have told me to eat somewhere else.
For us, its Liberty Tree Tavern. The first time we tried it, we really enjoyed it. The problem was we couldn't hardly eat anything. We were on the Deluxe Dining Plan and it was near the end of our trip. We were stuffed and could barely eat anything, but we enjoyed what we had.
So, we tried again on a different trip. Our waiter was rude when he was there, but mostly inattentive. He acted like we were a bother and frankly, I was annoyed by the whole thing. So, never again.
I wont say I'll never go back but it's been about four or five years and I still have no interest in going back to 50's Prime Time Cafe. I felt incredibly rushed and thought the cm outside would have preferred to not have to deal with me and the scooter I was using.
Whispering Canyon Cafe. We didn't get any interaction from our server - and he actually kind of rushed us along because he had to leave for some reason. I don't remember the food being all that wonderful either.
Another never for me I would have to say is Tony's. The last time we were there, we got the food literally in like 5 minutes so it was all prepared early and just sitting waiting and I'm not that fond of Italian anyway. I went because Lenny likes it and wanted to eat there.
•50's PTC. Food and service were "meh" and we had to wait a loooong time for our table - and yes we arrived before our ADR time.
•Le Cellier. Not worth the $ anymore. If I want a steak at a sig restaurant I'll go to Yachtsman - better food and better ambiance.
•Cape May for dinner.
Mama Melrose's for dinner. Service and food meh. Lunch wasn't bad, surprisingly. We tried that first and thought dinner would be just as good. Not so much.
Pecos Bill, not a fan of the menu, truthfully.
Bongos, the food was terrible and I love Cuban food. And Paddlefish. I wish it were still Fultons. The only choices were different boils, it was very noisy and our server really didn't want to be there, yet fawned all over the table of guys behind Dave. Dave and I could not carry on a conversation over the noise, and our server never came back to refill my iced tea or Dave's water.
Last year I gave Ohana's breakfast a second chance, and it will be the last. The food is not great, and the service absolutely sucks. I literally had to go get my own creamer for coffee after asking several wait staff over a prolonged period of time. I ended up asking a manager because she was the only one around. The food was all cold. The character interaction was sub-par in comparison. The wait even with an ADR is ridiculous. Too many other good places to spend my money.

How odd! We were simply blown away by how terrific the food and service were last fall. Characters came too rapidly which wasn’t a huge deal as great as the rest of the experience was.
Perhaps we were so impressed because food and service were just okay when we’d been there several years before. I wonder, also, if the fact that we had an opening ADR made the difference.
Guess we’ll find out this fall since last year’s experience encouraged a do-over.

Isn't it interesting how different our experiences have been? I've had excellent experiences at most of these restaurants.
The only place I'd probably never go back to is Big River Grille, simply because it had no theming that I can't experience here - gastropub - didn't seem special at all. It didn't help that they enthusiastically said they could seat us late in the evening, but our waitress stood in a corner and stared us down while looking at her watch

Dot--I continue to hear so many good things about Ohana, but both my experiences were lacking. The last was totally awful. I had that thought about the ressie being at the end of the breakfast hours for our first visit, so the second I made it about 9am if I remember correctly. We were staying at Poly this trip so it was perfect. It was beyond disappointing. We went for dinner and the service wasn't great either, but the food and ambiance were such that I will go again for dinner. We got to see the fireworks out the window because I had booked at that time.
