As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

No single rider was in use. Based on how the ride functions I'd be surprised if they ever had a single rider line.

We were there the day before the official opening, and I overhead one of the managerial CMs say the single rider line wasn't likely to be used. Maybe he meant in the near future.

So what is FoP like? Is it the same as Soarin is set up? I just need a good explanation because I am not sure if I can do it...I can do Soarin but no more Star Wars Tours, motion sickness.....
Just wondering....

For those that have been - would you suggest the early morning approach (and if so, the EMH 7am day or the normal 8am day?) or the evening EMH? We just planned a last minute trip for this weekend so no chance of a FP+ thanks! Can try for both but don't want to get up and an Uber at 6am if I'm just going to be in line for hours.

We were there on Friday, 6/2. That day, AK opened at 8am (No EMH). We drove ourselves and were parked and out of the car by 7am. We got in line at the turnstiles and were about 10 or so people back in line. At about 7:25, they allowed people into the turnstiles and we could go as far as across the bridge in front of the Tree of Life to where there was a rope. At about 7:35 they lowered that rope and allowed us onto the bridge that leads to Pandora where we were stopped by another rope. We were still pretty near the front of the crowd - about 30 ft back or so. At about 7:45-50 they lowered that rope and allowed us into the queue lines for the rides. I went to the River ride (which is on the left side) and DH & DS went to FoP (which is on the right side). When I finished walking through the River queue, I was about 30 people from the front. Once they started the ride at 8 am, I had made it on, rode, and exited the ride by 8:13. DH&DS exited FoP less than 10 minutes later. Going early worked out super well for us since we weren't able to make FP at 60 days because we were staying at Shades of Green this trip. My biggest tip is to be ready to GO when they lower the ropes. Don't run or shove people of course, but be ready to move. The crowd was large, but on the day we went they were quite polite. Everyone was respecting personal space so it wasn't too unbearable (I was a little worried about that because I get claustrophobic and am not a big fan of tightly packed crowds). The ride lines were 120+ by the time we got off them - less than 20 min after they had started running. Another tip, if you are interested in both rides. Ride FoP in the morning they way we did. Then, go back for EMH (they were having EMH from 11pm to 1am every night when we were there...I assume that's still going on but IDK for how long) and ride the River ride. We did this that night so DH&DS could try it too, and only waited 30 min. The line for FoP was still very long at EMH and they cut it off way before EMH ended because of that.
Good luck!

It's the same ride system as Soarin, but it feels completely different. Each level is in its own room, so you won't see anyone's feet above you. The ride vehicle is kind of like a motorcycle, and you lean forward. The feeling of swooping is very pronounced. There is a lot of wind and mist in your face - some people say that helps with keeping motion sickness at bay. On the podcasts I've listened to, some people who have trouble with Star Tours do just fine on FoP, but some get sick.
I suggest taking motion sickness prevention medicine just in case (if that sort of thing works for you). I took Dramamine. I don't have a problem with Star Tours, but spinning stuff makes me sick, and Expedition Everest made my stomach lurch just that morning (no Dramamine). I had no problem with FoP.
BTW, the ride is fantastic! I felt way more like an active participant than I've ever felt in either Soarin or Star Tours.

Thank you for explaining it..... I don't take Dramamine anymore but from the sound of it would remind me of Star Tours.... and I did go on that for awhile but not since 2007...so I think I will skip it and just do the Boat ride...safer I think.

Actually, I think it's smoother than Star Tours. But if you have a problem with Soarin', you probably wouldn't like FoP. I, however, loved it!

I do get motion sickness and the first time on in I thought I was going to toss my cookies. It was very intense. The second time I took meclizine (Dramamine 2) before I rode it. I still had a bit of queasiness but it was as bad and I enjoyed the ride much more.

Thanks for the info...and thanks for not including spoilers! I heard there's a Single Rider Line sign for FOP--did you see it? Was it in use? (I lost my FPs for FOP when I had to reschedule, after my sister's accident, so this is my best hope)
Last night they somewhat had a single rider line, though not like the other rides. I went through the main line, then at one point they break you into separate lines for the rooms. One of the lines they put the single riders in. We then got sent into the different rooms when needed.
I agree, this is 10 times better then Soarin. When I got off my first ride of FoP, my first thought was Soarin seems kinda boring now lol. I do still love Soarin though.
