As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Because I am a travel agent in the UK I have always just booked it through my company, because I am going to be leaving the company in 8days!!!! (wow thats scary) I am looking at different options. I have seen lots of people talking about cancelling free of charge and prices coming down closer to the time.
I am really confused by all of this because in the UK if the price comes down its basically tough you pay the prce you booked at and if you want to cancel then you pay fees.
I am needing the car from 6th September - 20th September from Sanford. Can anyone tell me where to start with all of this
thanks

In most cases you do not need to prepay for your rental car. If you reserve a car and the prices go down, you can reserve at the cheaper price and then cancel your original car. I always make a new reservation before I cancel the original one in case the car we need or want is not available.

That's what I'm doing with my reservation for an intermediate SUV from Enterprise. In the last two weeks, I've checked prices and re-booked; my total for a 9-day rental has gone down from $372 to $312 and now sits at $296. The $76 savings will buy me at least one tank of gas!
I'll keep checking over the next three days and hope to strike gold again, but no worries if I don't.
Stay away from Dollar Rent a Car. I was so disgusted with their negative attitude at the airport. They lied to us telling us that we didn't have the correct coverage for the car when we had bought it at home and made sure we did. When we left the parking lot, the woman at the gate was super rude. They tried to get us to buy gas from them at a much higher cost at the airport than it was anywhere else.
I did the survey and I made sure they knew what they did wrong.
Normally we drive to WDW but we have decided to look into flying into the Sanford airport this September. That means we will need to rent a car to get to Disney and back to the airport at the end of our vacation, which is 11 days . We wouldn't need to keep it all week because we don't drive while we are there.
Anyone who has done so please tell me about your experience. How much did it cost? Once you get to the resort how do you get the car back to the company? Etc.

If you are just looking to get back and forth from the airport, I think getting a cab or town car service would be a much more economical and practical idea. I don't know how the costs compare between the two, but you will be picked up and dropped off curbside at both locations (WDW and the airport) which is very convenient. If you are not planning to keep the car for the whole week, and you rented one, you would essentially be charged for one whole day (each time) for just a couple hours' worth of use.
I know Quicksilver Tours and Transportation always seems to have an ad banner at the top of this forum's page! It would be a place to start at least in terms of pricing out car service.

ETA: I don't know anything about Sanford or where you'd fly in from, but if you can possibly fly into MCO instead, you can take Magical Express -- free!
This seems as good a place as any to ask. I have a rental car reservation for all of $120 for the week counter pick up at MCO. I also have DME set up in case I decide against the rental.
I'm still trying to decide as this is my 3rd trip to the world and I had a rental one time and not another.
My thinking is in July heat and crowds to get a rental especially because I am moderately claustrophobic and we want to visit some resorts.
Thoughts??

My son & I will be flying to St Pete for a wedding in Nov. and need to get from St Pete Beach (Grand Plaza) to WDW. I've started to look into shuttle transportation (bc my son is nervous about driving) vs renting a car (1 day rental to drop at WDW when we get there). We would need to be picked up at our hotel if that's possible. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
There is a great section on car rentals at www.mousesavers.com
i havent read this whole thread but i bet you know that
i use alamo or national usually and we are quicksilver and emerald club members. We have gotten good service and had no issues with qwuick service. This dec we dropped off our rental at the Dolphin and it was awesome so easy!!
I just tried booking through mousesavers to see what rates I would get. On the page where it shows the price ($240), it also had this in fine print: "This reservation will incur an additional fee of $530.00, payable at the rental counter at time of vehicle pickup." What does that mean???

Have you contacted the hotel? They may have rental companies they deal with or shuttle service. A car service may be an option for you too. You're looking at 1-1/2 drive to WDW. Otherwise, Enterprise picks you up from your location--most of the time.

Booked van through Alamo via Hotwire for $420 total for 10 days--great deal. (and we were still able to cancel our original booking at ORD since we had to change flights since Frontier F'd up & changed the original direct flight to garbage)
I have never flown into Sanford & never rented a car in Orlando at all. I will be the driver (kinda sucks but DH is leaving a day early so the only way). In Vegas we can both be on the rental for no fee (state law)--guessing that isn't so in Florida. Anyone know? (I am willing to drive to save a chunk of change)
Where is car rental at Sanford from Airport? (on site, shuttle, etc.)
We are staying in a condo 2 exits from Disney. Do we need to worry about any toll roads from airport to condo to Disney?
