Two Foodies, More Tables and Disney At Christmas (Yes, it's STILL about the food!)--A TR - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Two Foodies, More Tables and Disney At Christmas (Yes, it's STILL about the food!)--A TR
Decided during insomnia time a mere TWO DAYS before we leave to get this trip report set up and ready to roll, so here it goes.
No promises this one will be live as last year's was, because I dang near needed another Disney vacation I was so wiped out from all those longwinded real-time updates posted last year. Maybe I've gotten smarter this year ( most likely not!), but I do love sharing our excitement and love of great food as soon as possible after the experiences. So, there's some suspense for ya--Will she or won't she?
Who: Me, Dot, the five-year-old trapped in a "vintage" adult body
Drew, the dignified, mature one of us
When and Where: Leaving Saturday, 12/19 for my Dream-Come-True trip, Christmas at Disney World, returning home 12/27.
Bags are set out in our computer room "staging area," some of them partially packed already. Uncharacteristically, I have most of the pre-trip laundry done and may actually get much of the rest of our packing done this afternoon. I ain't holding my breath that will happen, and neither should you. The Earth would doubtless stop rotating if I were to get us packed this soon, and we certainly wouldn't want that to happen. ::::giggling::::
Almost time to get the day underway. I must hustle this morning as I need to take Drew to work and then get the minivan to the dealer at 8:00 to see if they can figure out how to get the silly GPS map update software installed. Pay a wad of cash for the software only to discover you can't get it to install and then pay another chunk o' change in hopes the dealership guys can do it. Such a First World problem, huh?
Anyway, this TR is underway and very soon, we will be, too.
Greetings and welcome to all who decide to follow our new table-to-table adventures.
ETA: For anyone unfamiliar with our eccentricities and prior culinary adventures at WDW, here are links to our past accounts with "Surgeon General's Warning: These accounts, while undeniably informative and charming , are looooonnnng and detailed. If you fancy pre- and trip reports that are short and sweet, these ain't gonna be your cup of tea." In short, you've been duly warned!
So excited to see your post & the start of this TR. I am so looking forward to another one of your Food centralized TR. While the live one really took us all there with you, I just will be happy that you are doing the TR & reviews for us (especially the new GF brunch).
Above all - You & Drew go and enjoy every moment of your dream Disney Christmas vacation; you both need this one. We will all be here waiting to read all the details whenever you can update us (notice I excluded patiently).
Just love our dealer's service department. The agent tried to use the zipdrive sent us just as Drew had done to do the GPS update. He couldn't get it to work either until after investigating other possible problems, he discovered a teeny-tiny lock switch on the side edge of the thing, moved that and bingeroni! Fail-to-update problem solved and no charge, if you can believe that.
So, he did the 15-minute GPS update to be certain that itsy little zipdrive (about 1-1/2"x3/4") was finally doing what it should. Can't blame him for not doing the map update which takes 2 HOURS or so. Gives me a good excuse to sit in the car reading a book once I get Drew home from work as he is the techie type who can set up software installations. He will need to get at his customary killing stuff on the computer to burn off work stress, but someone must sit in the car to turn off the engine when prompted that the map update is done. That would be moi, obviously.
Meanwhile, I've gotta get with the program. Tons of stuff to do to get us ready to go! EEEEEK!

Update: Stoooopid zipdrive for map update likely defective
So, we get home, and Drew tries yet again to install the map update software, but the screen says that the map portion failed to load onto the zipdrive.
Long story shorter, he messes with every fix he can think of and then calls the company. Likely a bad chip, says their rep, and gives him info on returning it at no cost to us. Which would be fine IF we weren't about to leave for you-know-where. ::::sigh:::: A postponement on the return works for us.
Not as though we desperately need the GPS to be up to date, since we've taken the same route for what will be the third year in a row. We have "cheats" via Faithful Navigator Dot monitoring her iPhone map.
"Uneventful" indeed, we trust, but for a great dinner at a favorite Atlanta diner near our stopover hotel. THAT kind of event we can handle!
To Be Continued...

Signing in for your long awaited Dream Trip!!! Hope the weather cooperates and you have a very uneventful drive! Can't wait to read/drool over all the food you will be enjoying. It will hopefully hold me over till our cruise in April when I will be the one actually enjoying the meals.
