Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Harmony Barber Shop at the Magic Kingdom - A Walt Disney World Park Review
by Lisa Smith-Lester

I first heard of the Harmony Barber Shop, on Main Street in Magic Kingdom, whilst researching for our 2010 trip.

I read about the First Hair Cut they did and decided to take my eldest daughter for her first hair cut here, which was just after her 2nd birthday. Fast forward three years to 2013 and a visit to the Harmony Barber Shop was something that I definitely wanted for my younger daughter, who on this particular trip celebrated her 2nd birthday.

Reservations can now be made here 180 days in advance, like the Advance Dining Reservations (ADRs) by calling Disney on 407-WDW-PLAY or 407-939-7529. For this, I had my 180 date in my calendar and I was on the phone at 12 noon UK time (7am EST) to call and make this appointment, along with a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique appointment for my elder daughter. I was able to get both appointments quickly and was given 12-digit confirmation numbers. At the time, these were not linked to My Disney Experience and I was advised to give my name and confirmation number upon arrival, which should be 10 minutes prior to the appointment times.

Our appointment was for 11:00 am so we had a couple of hours in Magic Kingdom before making our way back to the front of the park to go to the Harmony Barber Shop. The Harmony Barber Shop is located right at the front of the park. You walk out under the Railroad and it is tucked away in the corner to the left, next to the Emporium and the garage where the parade either starts or ends. We arrived 10 minutes early and there were quite a few people waiting outside. I went in and gave our details and was told that we would be called just after 11:00 am. We went back outside to wait and sure enough, at 11:02 am, our name was called so we went in. There are just three or four stations, which explains why this is such a busy and popular place. There was a pre-teen aged girl having her hair trimmed and then styled and an older gentleman having his hair cut, so this really is a place for all ages.

We were directed to Norma's station and she already had the booster seat set up. We put our daughter in the chair and then she had a lovely, bright apron with penguins fastened around her. Norma then covered her with Mickey head stickers to distract her.

She asked me if we were there for the First Haircut, which we were, and asked what we wanted doing with our daughters hair. I said that we just wanted her hair trimming and tidying up a bit. She sprayed some water in her hair and ran a comb through before making a start on trimming her hair. Our daughter sat very happily for a while, pulling the stickers off and then trying to stick them back down whilst Norma worked. After a little while, our daughter did start to get to get a little bit antsy, I think in part due to tiredness though. Norma was well prepared and had a stack of the light up, spinney toys that she got out for our daughter to choose and play with. This then kept her entertained for the rest of her haircut.

As part of the First Haircut package, you get a pair of Mickey Head Ears, embroidered on the back with My 1st Haircut. We took some photos and then Norma asked if we wanted some 'pixie dust' in her hair with a cute little up-do so we said yes. She then pulled the front and sides of her hair up into a hair band and then sprinkled some 'pixie dust' on her hair (gold Mickey head glitter flakes).

Now finished, we took more photos whilst Norma tidied and packaged up a small amount of our daughters hair in tissue paper and sealed it with a Mickey head sticker, so that we had another memento of her first haircut. She then took us to the register to pay. We also received a My First Haircut certificate, with our daughter’s name, the date and Norma's name. The cost for this package was $18 at the time, now $19 I believe, plus tax and tip.

For me, this experience is worth every cent and more. Norma was an amazing Cast Member and was brilliant with our daughter. She enjoyed the experience and we loved watching and were able to take so many photos and have so many memories of her first Disney haircut. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone with young children, particularly little girls who are not yet old enough for an appointment at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, for a fun and inexpensive experience with your children. I am actually a little disappointed that this was probably our last visit here as both of our daughters are now old enough to experience Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique together.

Editor's Note: The Harmony Barber Shop is currently closed for refurbishment but is expected to re-open in late March 2015.
