As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Disneyquest in a short 3 day stay?
We will be staying in WDW for 3 short days and the kids ages 7,12, and 14 want to do Disney Quest because they've never been there. We have the ultimate parker pass as part of our package so it is included. But we're wondering is it worth it to spend hours there. How hoave other kids enjoyed it? Is there an additional cost once we get inside? We've been to all of the parks in the past and they just want to experience some they haven't done. But there's so much to do in such a short time that there's no other way to enjoy it all without some plan. Could I have some help with what to see and not miss with my kids. Even though we'ver done WDW before anyones advice would sure help!
Thanks
MaryJane

Re: Disneyquest in a short 3 day stay?
With only three short days, I wouldn't bother with Disney Quest. Personally, I was very disappointed with the place. However, your kids might enjoy the video games aspect of the place. What annoyed me was having to line up just to play assorted video games. The only two attractions in there that I thought were worth the time were the Pirates of the Caribbean and virtual Jungle Cruise attractions. Also, although one would think your admission would pay for all the attractions inside, it does not. There is an entire section of games where you have to pay to play them as there are prizes of some sort involved. And with quite a few of the attractions in the Create zone, although there is no charge to participate in them, you do have to pay if you want copies or samples of the work you've created. To me, Disney Quest seemed more like one giant commercial rip-off. With only three days to work with, I think you'd have a much better time concentrating on the theme parks. Your kids can always spend some time enjoying the video games at Innoventions in Epcot if they love that sort of thing.

Thank you so much for your response. You have saved me so much aggravation, time and money that i can't begin to thank you enough. We'll scratch it off the list for this time and save it for another time when it's a miserable day outside.just to see it once for the kids.
Thanks again Joy

We considered Disney Quest, too (DS's 7 and 11). I opted to save it for another time, also. We're going on the cruise, too, and I figured they would have enough new experiences there!

Re: Disneyquest in a short 3 day stay?
Since Disneyquest is open late - till 11 pm I believe - and it is paid for, you might take a couple of hours one night - perhaps after Fantasmic, and head over to Downtown Disney. After getting a little taste of it, your kids might decide it's not their thing!

Re: Disneyquest in a short 3 day stay?
I agree with Marie, DQ is open late, and the kids have fun. My 20, 10, and 5 yr. olds had a great time last June.
The raft simulator on the bottom floor is wonderful fun, and we all 5 did it together.
I am taking the 3 down for 4 days next week, and we will be going to DQ one of those evenings.

Re: Disneyquest in a short 3 day stay?
I agree with Joy J. It just wasn't my thing. The Buzz Lightyear Bumper Cars were terrifying--not at all like the ride at MK! On this one you're in these plastic-enclosed cars where you shoot what appeared to be black volleyballs at other people's cars. When they hit your car, your plastic windows shake like they're going to break open. The Virtual Jungle Cruise was okay, but your arms get tired from paddling. I don't plan to go back there--I would've rather spent that money at another park or maybe at the Virgin Megastore!

I love DQ, and couldn't imagine going to WDW without going there at least once. I love the Buzz Lightyear bumper cars. When you hit another car with a ball, they spin out of control. On our last trip, my bf and I gave a direct hit to a CM that was riding in another car, and he gave us a dirty look it was really funny! -Stephanie

Re: Disneyquest in a short 3 day stay?
I believe it is the fourth floor where you get tickets from the games, on that floor you need to purchase RePlay cards in order to use the game machines. When we went they gave us each a complementary RePlay card, but I am not sure if they always do this or if it had something to do with the quanitity of tickets that I purchased or the coupon that I used.
There were a couple other things that you can do for free at DQ, but could purchase what you invented or made such as a music CD and a toy.
There is tons to do there and with children the ages of yours, I would imagine that they would have a great time. I briefly went over DQ in my trip report if you are interested in checking it out.
Take care.
Dee.

Re: Disneyquest in a short 3 day stay?
Thanks to all that responded to Marjanes question as well. We are going for a little longer stay and since we will have the UPH ticket we will go to BB to swim for the day and then to Downtown Disney later in the afternoon to try out DQ. Remember the magic. Jerry
