Escaping The Brutal Northeast For Sunny, Warm Florida and Fun! Completed 7/12 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Escaping The Brutal Northeast For Sunny, Warm Florida and Fun! Completed 7/12
Well, here it is. My second attempt at a TR! I think my first stab at it, (http://www.passporterboards.com/foru...te-6-13-a.html) went rather well. It was a lot of work with the photos and Photobucket, not being so cooperative at times, made it a project at times. I had plenty of notes, so remembering exact places and sights was never really a problem. It was well worth doing and glad I’ll always have a memory of it here, where I can relive it, whenever I desire to!
The Details
Adventurers: Just Myself
Dates: Saturday, March 29-Friday, April 4
Where To: Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida
Resorts: Port Orleans Riverside for 6 Nights
Activities: Golf, Theme Parks, Dining and Fun
Meets: None, I’m sorry to say. Wish I did!
I decided not to do a PTR as I was still working on my France TR, but all of those details, that I would have included in one, will be in the first part here.
So, when did the planning of this trip start? It was the week of October 6, 2013, when I received a few emails from Disney regarding Room Offer Deals that were for the Spring. After, doing a big trip to Europe earlier last year, I was thinking about scaling it back a bit and possibly head back to WDW. Going to Europe and especially for 15 nights can get quite expensive, so it’s only something I can do every couple of years or so.
I looked at the resort room deals on the WDW site and it started to become more appealing. I want to do the Epcot Food and Wine Festival, but I couldn’t hold out that long and wanted to go in the Spring. I thought, after the university and school breaks and before Easter would be a good time to go. The room rates, would be a bit better a few weeks after Easter, but wanted to go in early April as I never had gone to Disney during this time and the weather is usually quite good.
So that was it....a done deal...I’m going to the Magical Place for the 11th time since 2002!
Friday, October 11 (Correction as I originally typed March!)
I decided to just do a room offer and not tack on a dining package. Don’t feel you save much, especially for a solo traveler. It makes more sense for families or parties of more than one. The other thing is I don’t have a big breakfast as continental works fine for me. Lunch wouldn’t be big on a regular basis as I’d be playing golf on a few days and grab something on the course. While in the parks for lunch, I’d just do CS for the most part. Dinner is completely different as I always do TS for this. Overall, I didn’t think it was worth it. At best, it may equal out, depending on which plan I went with, so I decided no to this.
I did a lot of looking around on various Disney sites for the regular rack rates and how much I’d be paying each night and whether I wanted to go with a Moderate or Deluxe resort. Value Resorts are not an option for me as I want something a bit better. Even with the discounts, I felt the deluxes with their discounts were more than I wanted to spend on a room. So, it would now be a Moderate Resort, I would go with, but which one?
I’ve stayed at all of the moderates and most recently Coronado Springs in 2012, so that was out. I stayed at Carribean Beach back in 2007, but wasn’t crazy about it. Didn’t like the idea of the Customs House (check in etc.) being far away from the food court and shops. There are also seven bus stops and that was a bit annoying, so this was out as well.
I’ve stayed at the two Port Orleans Resorts a couple of times a piece. I prefer the French Quarter out of the two resorts as I find it more intimate, less travel time by boat to DTD, love Sassagoula Floatworks food court (my favorite of all Disney resorts) and beignets!
The French Quarter it would be with Riverside as a backup, if I can’t get my dates!
NEXT: Booking my Room and ADRs!

Good start, Dave! Before I bought DVC, POFQ was my resort of choice. Like you, I love that it's compact, has the boat to DTD, and I like being first on, first off on the bus.

I love POFQ, but you'll find out soon, that it wasn't to be! Also, in my trip details, in the beginning.
The DVC has always seemed appealing to me, considering how often I go to Disney. I think I should look into it with costs etc, and whether it would be worth it.

Great start, Dave! We have never stayed at POFQ, but it looks beautiful and beignets nearby would be a bonus.
Even though you're DVC members, staying at a Mod. like the FQ would be worth it. It's a great resort! The beignets are so yummy!

Yes it certainly was not fun, hence the title!
Was hoping to do an update tonight, but long day at work and too many TRs to read as well! I hope to post in the next day or two! Always easiest on the weekend, but don't want to make everyone wait that long.
